I imagine we use 'stop' often to put a chokehold on somebody's words, as a way to negate what they're saying or feeling. We're trying to get one up in the conversation. All about control.

That is certainly one perspective. I think it can also be about wanting to be heard - not necessarily control.

I don't think we can ever stop the devices from listening! I'm just observing that people are saying "stop" a lot more these days given how popular these devices are - and how they are always listening to us!! ;)
