  • There are many different things to learn in Battlefield 5 when it comes to tanking and with tanks being more fragile than ever, learning how to avoid assault players whilst scoring points is quite difficult. In his video I go over my personal loadouts, the tanks I find to be most effective and the tips and tricks that helped me become an effective tanker.
    I have managed several 40/50-0 games on conquest in the tank without camping on a hill using these tips.

      @koko_lame I love to try and consider new ways to solve things like this. Panzerfausts are waaay too hard hitting, so adding these two traits would be sweet!
      What I think would compliment your idea? A new infantry class all together, Anti-Tank. Back in those days, AT equipment was heavy af. They would suck ass against heavy tanks, but could slice the med-light stuff no problem.
      This gives vehicles much higher fear factor, rather than making infantry utter gods. If we want infantry dicing the heavies? Let's have this, Combat Engineers!
      These guys get pretty light weaponry, but get one serious asset, being able to build stuff anywhere they choose. Imagine getting Engineers setting up AT guns on a hill, bunkers, multiple walls of sandbags, trenches, minefields, etc.
      That being said, nerf the single layer sandbag wall...cause really that won't stop crap.

      @koko_lame Exactly! In my humble opinion, DICE spent much more time on cosmetic options than the actual game in question. (An artifact of EA's microtransaction).
      the best part about the engineer's fortification skill? It lets the player create cover for others, making for a more sandbox-y battlefield. The current construction is too restrictive, aka wasted potential.
      One youtuber did speak on the overall problem of BF V, it's the philosophy of its play. Every class is pretty much forced into a run-n-gun archetype, not allowing for different styles for different players (not everyone is good at rushing!)
      Wish we got to direct design for this game, would've been more exciting.

      You need like 5 panzerfoust to kill most tanks 😂have u even played the game it takes 2 or more assault players to kill a tank it just seems like there’s one as you concentrate on the one

      @@mrmonotone1572 yep that's what I feel. Most complaints are either from: salty tank players driving to take point like on previous BFs getting taken out by combo of mines and PFs/sticky dynamites (*) or 2-3 Assault players doing PF combo (highly unlikely scenario on most servers).
      Sticky dynamite doesn't work vs competent tank drivers. If tank driver is slightly above average and knows game mechanics, he won't rush. He will be patient. Tanks SHOULD not be front line of offense. Not yet at least. ;)

      @koko_lame Not true. The Panzerfaust had a "Hohlladungsgeschoss" (Hollow charge projectile) Which was effective at all ranges. You could theoratically throw the Panzerfaust Projectile at a tank and it would still devastate it.

    Tiger 1 needs a massive buff vs other vehicles, Valentine has better damage per minute 1v1 against the Tiger as its reload is so much quicker

      Agreed. Tiger needs to be best tank in game. Im ok with it moving slowest cause its heviest, but needs to do more base damage from turrent

      It can't be so good that no one ever takes the other tanks though. There's no system of balancing the tank spawns by making them cost different amounts to call in. They should add that if they're going to differentiate the tanks into roles and not just have "x = y" equivalencies

      @@ClaptrapRapture true, but right now if youre allies and have some skill at the game as a tanker, you always pick the Valentine because its so overpowered same as the Panzer IV on the axis side

      Herre ten Kate many people say the t 34 is the best tank of ww2 because of its armor sloping and it didn’t break down all the time like the tiger did. Also the rare time that a tiger showed up on de battlefield the allies had not that much trouble taking it out. If you do Some more research you will find that the tiger get way to over hyped nowadays

    I will talk about Axis.
    Tiger I: use it, if its big map, like Panzerstorm or Hamada, even if its Arras, (but dont drive into village). Tiger is mainly to destroy tanks (read: camp)
    Panzer IV: its universal. Kinda like MBT. It can be used on all maps. Good vs tanks, if using PaK 40L/43 specialization. Good vs infantry, if using short barrel.
    Panzer 38 (t): use versus infantry, but think first. Dont get to close, because 2 Panzerfausts= death. Also can be used against tanks if you can flank well.
    Flakpanzer IV: good tank, but no chances against tanks. Shreds infantry. Best use on Panzerstorm or Hamada.
    *TIPS*
    -Play with your squad. They can be your gunners or just run close to your vehicle.
    -Dont leave your tank, if it still works. Enemy can capture it, repair and your team will have no tanks, but enemies have two...
    -Dont rush flags full of infantry. You think "hey, I'm tanker. I can tank a lot of damage. But actually you have no chances in CQC against tons of infantry. 3 Panzerfaust + AT nade= your death...
    -Try to outplay enemies tanks. You can damage turret, engine or tracks. You will deal most damage, if you hit back of tank.

      My Churchill VII got wrecked by a Flakpanzer IV in a Panzerstorm match. It only took 3 frames or so to take me from 100 to 0 health. Not sure if that guy was using a damage multiplier cheat or the Flakpanzer IV is, like AKA-ART said, an anti-everything tank.

      @@Stormfox93 Flakpanzer IV is most commonly used tank in this game from what I saw :D. 1000 ammo, 4 cannons. Can shred infantry, airplanes (it's amazing AA tank), it can take down light tanks in few seconds. Don't know about heavy tanks as those, driven by players who know what they are doing, don't rush to Battlefield and sit deep and camp., but I suppose it can outgun heavy tanks easily too. Just don't get hit... ;)

      @@info0 I know how to play tanks, it's just the fact that an AA tank can penetrate front armor of a heavy tank...so weird.

      AA tanks can be surprisingly effective against tanks at longer ranges, especially where there is no cover, as a harasser. It doesn't kill them out right, but it is a lot easier for the AA tank to hit the enemy tank than that other tank to hit you due to the fact that AA is automatic making it easier to adjust for range. If you fire at the turret, it also impairs their vision making it much harder to adjust elevation to hit you. This happens the most on Panzerstorm.

      @@Stormfox93 right. There's historical evidence that flak cannons couldn't even penetrate the front armour of a Cromwell, how it does any damage whatsoever to a Tiger front armour of laughable.

    Tanks in bfv have a very steep learning curve. In order to use them effectively you must adopt a more methodical mindset. You must think about your future engagements. Should you advance, lending your infantry some covering fire and distraction? Or should you instead retreat to enforce a former position?
    These, and many more, are the choices you'd be forced to make in combat and the deciding factor between a good and a bad tanker is how many choices you get right.
    An important key note to keep in mind is that in bfv, tanks are *supportive* units. You're there to help your infantry and vice versa. Like you said, a lone tanker is pretty weak and his life expectancy is usually pretty low (which serves his team little to no good).
    One pet peeve I have with tanks, however, is the dreaded repair system. If you have a tank with a repairman it's nearly impossible to take it out, or even deal enough damage to deter it. The dps needed is just too high imo.

      I've been playing tanks since Battlefield 1942. I don't think the strategy has changed that much. They are just much more weaker than before.

      @@imelfo3945 I personally disagree. The drastic changes that were made to tanks in bfv have really emphasized a certain role that, although present in previous games, wasn't a must. Tanks in previous games could usually play alone and still be decent. Making them fun but not really adding to the teamplay.

      @@bg8580 In BFBC2 and BF3 you absolutely had to have a repair guy with you. In BFV you do much better as a solo tanker. You can for example repair from inside the tank. But I also think BFBC2 and BF3 had more hard core players and BFV has more casual players.

    Playing as a heavy tank is such a pain. You get outflanked easily and you are very slow. Besides that you cant even take that much damage, you can absorb one panzerfaust more than a light tanks so why even choose the heavy tanks.

      Wel it took some time but I am actually pretty good with the tiger now. For me the Valentine and tiger are the best.
      Oh the werbelwind is also fun to play with :)

      My preferred method of using the heavy tanks, like the tiger, is to position yourself above an objective with less of your hull exposed and to clear out infantry on the point. Then, once all or most infantry is gone, I roll in and take the objective. It works for me.

      IggyRB26 nah staghound with 60 pounder rockets is the best tank for the new map. You can skrt around the tiger and shoot all your rockets in the tigers ass. Most die before they have even turned their turret around.

      @@info0 how would assault losing dynamite break game balance when it's already broken? assault is by far the most over powered class. best rifles, most weapon variation, best at all ranges, rocket launchers, dynamite, grenade launcher, piat (mortar). 1 Assault can take on a tank and you think that's balanced? recon has next to nothing when facing tanks and many players play aggresively with recon (most of the maps are medium sized with lots of close quarter engagements. giving recon dynamite would balance things out with tanks as each class brings something different to the table when facing tanks. if DICE won't take away assault's dynamite then they need to buff tanks to have more armor, bigger or if any splash damage, and more ammo.

      ​@@grantbarnhart1775 because of realism sake. Assault players are front line infantry and thus are fighting at front lines. They are OP for a reason, but let's be fair, they are not tank like RPG players (you know, the ones taking on all kinds of damage for rest of team). Yes, because I know WW2 and it's one of my favorite history periods (paradox being from Poland). 1 guy taking on tank was not that uncommon. Sure, weapons wise, Assault have best selection and it's also valid in BF V terms.
      Look you need to start looking at classes in DIFFERENT way compared to other Battlefield series. This is why this BF is most fun for me, because I can play to SQUAD and TEAM needs. Swapping classes when needed and to what situation arises. You're not supposed to be 1 man army and do it all.
      Medics need to revive and heal, not go fighting and fuck the rest. Support has a purpose in medium range and supporting players with munitions, repairing tanks and building fortifications/stationary weapons and can take down tanks with AT Mines or AT Granade pistol (how come people don't use it when it's on same power level as PF). It's also one of the best defensive player roles you get in game (lay down on capped point with MMG on bipod and shred anyone in your sight).
      Recons are scouts and eyes for the team. It's one of my most used classes for a reason. Sit back, spot, take down enemies from range. Move to next objective.
      Not having any anti-tank weapons is not a problem. Recons shouldn't even be engaging such things lol. Unless you like to play classes wrong then yeah, go back to BF4...
      Here all classes have a PURPOSE for once. In BF3/BF4 Assault (aka Medic) was a tanker. Self-healing shredding machine. I don't want that shit back. ;] If all classes suddenly start destroying tanks, I am out of BF V. The only thing balance wise which is annoying with playing infantry is Medic class. They seriously need second weapon type along SMGs, but DICE need to think what they give seriously through.
      Agreed on buffing tanks splash damage. Not in for armor changes. In 1939 and early 40s armor thickness was 30mm max. In 1945 (considering in BF V we are in early years of WW2, it's 5 years spread), medium tanks had 60mm armor thickness or more. Light tanks went out of commission in those years too leaving only med/heavy tanks in war.
      I see where you might be coming from though, if you have incapable team, you want to do something lol. Well, that is not a classes problem, but people mentality needs to change from solo wolf, to fuck I need to start playing objectives and as a team. I am hopeful here as I have seen many people following orders and tactics in recent days.

    Tank drivers, can you PLEASE consider you might have a gunner helping. But they're only useful if you point the front of the tank towards the enemy. A good gunner will help spot enemy and quickly take down any infantry aiming rockets your way.

      Ha, seems like anymore they’re either facing their target at an angle bc they didn’t get the “increased angle damage” memo or they’re driving around in reverse altogether so not to have to compete with the forward facing gunner -.- more often than not they get ambushed and blown up moments later. It’s beyond pathetic.

    The Tiger is actually very useful once you master it. I've managed to use the Tiger in CQC maps such as Rotterdam and Devastation, starting from the very beginning of the match and managing to not die. Here are the tips I can give for the Tiger:
    1) Keep your distance from the enemy. The Tiger is slow and very clumsy. (I always use it when playing as the Axis, and even I mess up from time to time) You don't need to snipe the enemy from afar with your cannon, or spray them with your MG, but you can't escape from infantry like you can do when using the light tanks. Don't think that you're a coward for retreating when the enemy gets closer. It'll give you more of a chance to kill them, instead of them killing you.
    2) Try to use the Tiger as a means of defense. As AKA-ART stated, the enemy can cut you off by capturing the command posts behind you, while you keep on advancing. Your infantry can only do so much to protect you, especially when they cannot respawn near you. For Rotterdam I advise staying at point D, for Twisted Steel at the back of point D (near the very edge that is closest to your original spawn) and for Devastation at point A. The advantage of the Tiger is its high health and damage output. By staying close to these objectives, you will be able to take down enemies that come your weapon (e.g. you make sure they have to play according to your rules). It's very common for the enemy to try and take over the objectives while your team is out there capturing theirs, because that way they can cut your teammates off and flank them. By stopping the enemy with your Tiger, which is not that hard by suppressing them with your MG, you essentially kill the enemy but make sure you don't lose an objective. Not only that, but by staying close to these particular objectives you have easy access to repair stations.
    3) The grenades in the skill tree. As you know, the Tiger is slow and clumsy, making it a perfect target for enemies who will get close and place their sticky explosives on you. In BF4, C4 was my personal bane since that was how I always lost my tank. But this particular upgrade allows you to drop grenades and kill any enemies around you. Of course, this isn't always effective. Quite often the enemy sneaks up on you without you noticing. However, this ability has saved my life many times, since players tend to get up close even when they've been spotted. All you have to do is wait for them to run up to you, before dropping an instantaneously exploding grenade in their face.
    These are the three tips I can give you to play with the Tiger. It's not easy in the beginning, but once you get accustomed to the Tiger, you become a very deadly enemy to your foes and can get a killstreak of at least 20 people before they kill you off.
    All the while you listen to the Panzerlied!

    What distinguishes Tank gameplay from BF1 for me personally is the importance of a supporting gunner. Low visibility and the inability to fully rep mean that a good Gunner on Coms who is playing Support is invaluable. Makes the tanks extremely powerful, comparable to BF4 Rush.

      Having a mate on the front gunner seat is really important. The top gunner is even more powerful but gets killed really fast. The most frustrating death is to AT mines...they detonate UNDER the tank?! Are they supposed to kill me on top?

    I believe you should have studied all the specializations more before calling it a guide.
    Are s mines any good? Is zimmerit as useless as they say? How does Churchill gun carrier play? Should I go short or long barrel for panzer iv? Do panzer iv skirts add a lot of protection? What's the difference between HE/AP rounds? Is one barrel on ostwind really an upgrade over four barrels of werbelwind? How does big shotgun spec work? How good is staghound's autocannon? How do I play in Sturmtiger, Churchill crocodile or the two tank destroyers?
    And most importantly, how do I actually make my teammates build resupply stations when I'm in the middle of panzerstorm map and out of any ammo?

      S-mines are barely any good unless you get zerg rushed by a bunch of infantry, which should never happen as you shouldnt be in a position to be rushed. Gun Carrier is trash dont bother. Short if you like to support fellow infantry, long if you like main anti tank role. I have not noticed much addition to health or survivability with track skirts. Again, HE if you like to support infantry, AP if you like to main AT. Ostwind V. Wirbel is basically preference. Plane nerf has made both very effective against planes. Against infantry both are decent, just slightly different styles. Just like it sounds, big shotgun is a big shotgun. Very effective against infantry, shit against everything else. Staghounds autocannon is good if you can remain on target for some seconds, shreds infantry in groups. Sturmtiger is best when you know where enemy infantry will be and you are supported by fellow infantry, it can also BLAST other tanks if you are a good aim. Crocodile is pretty bad, as it is just a normal churchill but you need a second crewman to use the flamethrower. The two tank destroyers are mobile AT gun emplacements on trucks. Do not rush with them as they do not have a turret and does not have much armor, they are the pinnacle of sniper tanks as they have infinite main gun ammo.
      You don't.

      HE is high explosives and AT is anti tank. So it’ll probably be HE does more to infantry but not as much to tanks, while AT does more to tanks but not as much to infantry

      @@tilasseus9318 s-mines are nasty especially if you're in the tiger since it has more limited maneuverability. Enemies like to flank it and get up close especially in urban environments. I find it's also effective if you're an attacking team on breakthrough and an objective can't be flanked. I used a panzer IV on twisted steel and charged the objective on the bridge head on since both teams were fighting to a standstill. When I burst through their fortifications, I deployed the s-mines and got 4 or 5 kills enabling my team to capture the objective.

    Engagement angles are important for several reasons, namely, always face the threat:
    Strongest armour is on the front of the tank - glacis and mantle. Meaning you're more likely to get glancing hits if you take it on the chin (as it were).
    You present the smallest possible target. And importantly, your tracks can't be hit easily (or at all), retaining mobility.
    You bring your bow gunner into play. Using your gunner intelligently increases your survivability a great deal (especially if they're support and can hop out and repair when needed). Please people, if you've got a bow gunner make sure they can shoot effectively.

    I have an idea for air assault in bfv.
    So the maps would be London, dunkirk and maybe a soviet or pafific map. The attackers would have bombers and fighters and the defenders would only have fighters. The attackers objective is to bomb the supplies or harm civilians to hinder the ground forces and have fighters to escort the bombers. The Defenders would have Fighters to shoot down the bombers and its escorters. You would have to bomb the objective a few times so it's fair. This is basically objectives in air. The reason I like this is because you actually need stragegy then just kill more planes. Maybe conquest would be who ever bombs more objectives win and team death match is just who kills more. Anyone agree? Add feedback in the replies.

    assault should lose dynamite and instead be given to recon. this makes for an even balance between classes against tanks. Heavy tanks should get a buff in armor, splash damage, and additional ammo. Kinda feel like AA tanks shouldn't be a tank option but rather its own option like in bf4.

      @Nguyễn Hải Dương With that same logic, nothing currently in game but the Tiger with APCR should be able to damage the churchill MK VII/VIII from the front. but that wouldn't be balanced now would it.

      @Nguyễn Hải Dương I never said that vehicle gameplay was perfectly balanced as it is, i commented on you mentioning that it is absurd that AA vehicles (flakpanzer as you said) could deal damage to a tiger, and while i agree from a realism standpoint that doesn't make any sense, the fact is that battlefields damage model is just not realistic. so my point is that if they would give tanks their proper armour values and make certain weapons useless against them, that would render the churchill almost unkillable from the front.
      Frontal hull armour:
      Tiger: 100-120mm
      Churchill MK VII: 152mm

      @@mrgroovybadger3297 support already has mines and a grenade launcher. recon has nothing against tanks except for spotting but no one does that so they're useless right now. giving recon dynamite would balance out classes against tanks.

    The 95mm howitzer on the Churchill devastates infantry and other tanks, the tank itself can be quite unwieldy but that howitzer really does make up for it in my opinion.

    True men only use heavy tanks when given the choice. Tiger, Churchill (AVRE and Croc) and Strumtiger is all one really needs. The Gun carrier is the sick child in this group, hopefully they will add the Archer so the British gets something that is actually playable.
    Hearing you complain about Tank to Tank engagement in a tiger is only true on maps like Twisted Steel where there are many things obstructing your line of sight. On open large maps like Hamada, Tiger is King with the High velocity rounds.
    Also, use the howitzer for the Churchill with the Hesh rounds. They demolish any tank in close range, or medium if you know how to adjust for the lower velocity. They can even beat the Strum Tiger if they dont get a direct shot off first.
    7:11 That is one scrub Tiger. HOW TO SMOKE 101: Pop smoke then reverse in an angle from your enemy so they miss when they have no line of sight.
    Also, always watch the road for landmines, they are very shiny and are easy to spot when you are looking at the road.
    Also here is a cardinal list of what to do and not do when driving a tank:
    - Do not get out, be a man and die with the tank so the enemy has no chance to steal it.
    - Do not get tunnel vision, always check your sides.
    - Learn the locations of AT guns (Overlooking A on Navick and overlooking bridge/canyon on Hamada) on the map as well as map boundaries for potential routes enemy has to flank you.
    - Do not charge in like an idiot, do not over commit
    - Do not get another aa tank when your team already has 2 on panzer storm.
    - Shoot the tracks so the enemy tank cant retreat quickly.
    - Learn the terrain, avoid areas with limited LOS or areas with lots of trenches.

    Tiger is very good at range. I use smoke launchers, faster turret rotation, reinforced turret ring, and s-mine launchers. These allow me to counter assault players. The smoke will make it easier for me to escape, and if I get a group of assault players around me I’ll get really close and use s-mine launchers. It’s effective and gives a quick scare to nearby enemies

    As a Tiger main 2 years later, you absolutely have to use it as a mobile artillery. I DO NOT move onto a point until I've cleared it of infantry from a distance and there's friendly feet on the point. If I can't directly see the point, I'll shell it at distance and wait for friendlies to move in.

    Honestly its kinda stupid that an assault can kill 1 tank alone. In BF4 worked because you had a faster turret speed and a faster tank aswell as a better customization system. You could choose a primary shell and secondary gun plus a perk and a countermesure as well as the op Termic Optic. Plus the gunner had the soflam, the incendiary grenade or the infantry sensor wich were super usefull. In BF5 the spec three isn't as versitile as the old system.

      @@FunLion you are basically assuming that I suck instead of understanding what I say. I'm not saying that you can't do well. I'm saying that the tanks in this game can be taken out by Assault Players with the dynamite, panzerfaust and AT grenade wich is BS because you don't even need to be on the back of the tank and do crit damage (as in older BF games) you can just 1 vs 1 a tank if you are close as a assault player they can't do shit to hit you. The tanks already are slow, have slow turret speed and low health. Also the spec three sucks.

      @@IlNamelessKinglI On PC you have 3rd person view with high field of view which is basically a wallhack in a 20m radius. Couple that with the high speed of medium and light tanks and there's no way an assault player can sneak up on me. Unlucky broken tracks can be fixed by instant field repair. Medium tanks survive 3 panzerfausts easily now and then you can fall back behind a smoke cloud and repair. With good situational awareness, you are always positioned with your own infantry at your 6. Use a large zoom radius on your minimap to get as much info as possible about enemy movement and reposition accordingly. You can't lose against a single assault this way. Two also need too long to be a real threat.

    my favorite thing to do with the staghound is to do circles around the bigger tanks and shoot them while they try to chase you with their turret. Tulip rockets are a sweet bonus too. One volley and a main cannon shot usually KO's enemy.

    I imagine since rocket launchers irl negated tank armour due to heat ammunition, that that's the case in this game too. However, sticky devices can be mitigated using zimmermit if you have access to it, and I'd imagine you can deflect normal tank shells like irl.
    The reason I say this is bfv seems to be (mostly) striving more towards historical accuracy, so using real life as a reference may help you in game.

    If you want a butt tone of kills with the Panzer from the start quickly book it to the vehicle resupplies points on there side and drop your mines there and book it to the next one and repeat. Went 54-0 on pamzerstorn doing that works every time

    Two additonal tips. 1. Increase the zoom radius of the minimap so you can see the flow of enemy movement from a more strategic point of view. Tactical placement and movement is everything. 2. Change the toggle between 1st and 3rd person camera to the 4th mouse button (thumb button) because you have to switch between them constantly for maximum awareness and aim.

    The flakpanzer 4 (aka Wirbelwind if you have the quad 20mm cannons or Ostwind if you have the 37 because DICE didn't put a whole lot of research into it) could actually use high velocity armor piercing rounds which were full capable of taking down the stag hound or valentine but couldn't damage the Churchill at all, then the British anti air (don't remember the name) has a 40mm that, with AP, could pen the back of the tigers turret.

    I've had a lot of luck with the Panzer 4, but as soon as you equip the long 75, you lose most of your splash damage. The sideskirts and turret smoke launchers come in handy when trying to survive and have saved me vs assault spam more than once!

    The most annoying thing is that a support repairing enemy tank's ass does it way faster than you hit it. It doesn't matter if it fights back or not, it literally has infinite hp.

    The tanks in BF5 Are historically incorrect, and plain wrong. The Tiger was thick with armor right off the bat. Valentines would not have a chance unless they get around the main armor of the front and the sides, and shoot the back where the engine was. Also, If your look for light tanks for speed. Such as the Panzer III. You should choose the Panzer IV. It has a good amount of armor, and you should add upgraded stack skirts. Historically. The Panzer IV could defeat a T-37. "A strong soviet tank." But then of course the much stronger KV-1 "Another more powerful Soviet tank." Which the Panzer IV stood no chance against, and the Axis needed a much more powerful tank. Which led to the manufacture of the Panzer Tiger. No matter how fast a tank was. Nothing would get by the tiger. Unless some tanks like the KV-1 or the British Churchill. Which it was rare for a Tiger to fight with a Churchill for the only time they fought was in the landings of Normandy. Also what about the Churchill? It was much stronger then any other smaller Axis tanks, such as the Panzer IV, or the Panzer III, or the Jaguar. The upgraded versions of the Churchill also had upgraded backs. Making it harder to penetrate all sides of Armour. What I am saying the tanks in BF5 are downright under powered, and the tanks that are supposed to be monsters. Are killed by tanks like the Panzer II.

    I Play my Valentine the Exact opposite as you do. Extra Ammo, Side Skirts and canister shot allow me to get closer and play more classic BF w/ it. This is also not real life when the 2 Pounder would do jack all vs mid-war German Tanks. ROF of the 2 Pounder and 40 shots allows me to take out a Tiger/Panzer IV quick enough. Especially w/ a squad Assault Player.
    I rock a Panzer IV the same way on the German side, just w/ the Longer Main Gun for velocity. Good video.

    I’m a huge fan of the Tiger personally. I like hanging back and engaging in vehicle vs vehicle battles. In most cases the armor saves my life, and the 88mm rounds sound so satisfying to fire.

    Major oversight, you forgot to mention being aware of your facing if you're in a Churchill or a Tiger with a front-facing hull gunner! How many times have we sat staring at a wall or the ground as a hull gunner in a tank, while the tank and its driver get wrecked by enemies to either side or behind.

    If i do need to build a resupply station when in a tank, park it in front of the station to put the tank in between you and potential enemies, also remember which side you jump out of and park accordingly, that way its harder to get killed whilst building. Since i started doing it i haven't died once. :)

    One thing I'd include so people stop hating on Heavy Tanks, is that you have multiple options. Light tanks are meant for dealing with infantry in close quarters, medium tanks meant for supporting infantry, and Heavy Tanks are snipers. Pazerstorm is a great map for the Tiger and Gun Carrier. I will get far more kills in those compared to me flanking people in a Staghound with rockets. They're accurate, they can take more damage, & they have the range. So stop complaining about the tank, its your choice to pick the wrong tank for the wrong map.

    Tanks just don't seem to have the presence on the battlefield in most maps as they used to. Not sure if there are just too few of them, or certain kinds need a buff, or if the respawn time needs to be shorter...

      I think the reason you don't see many tanks in bf5 is because most tank drivers are very conservative with their tanks and they normally hold an objective, especially heavy and medium tanks.

    I find myself using the AA tanks a lot as I heavily dislike the aircraft, obviously the bombers most.
    In saying that if you are upgrading an AA tank, I find the airburst smoke shells are fantastic! They can blind your enemy, or if you really need to run before a bomber destroys you, fire them around you and it's a quick and really effective smokescreen
    I've done this while being harassed by a struka and I think it took him a solid 5 minutes to get me even below half health

    BFV is the worst game for tanks and for tanks to be enjoyable DICE needs to do a complete overhaul of the core mechanics.
    Attrition doesn't have any real effect on infantry or airplanes, but it has a very annoying affect on tanks.
    After one engagement, the maximum health of your tank is going to go way down. Best case scenario your max health will be at 70-80% but it's very likely it will drop down to 50-60%. While infantry can quickly get a medpack from a medic or airplanes can quickly fly to the resupply point, the nearest resupply point for a tank might be very far away. This mechanic encourages tanks to camp by resupply points.
    I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but if an attack on a tank disables the tracks or turrets, self repairing might not fix the disable. You have to go to the nearest resupply point to fix the disable, if your tracks are disabled you can imagine how frustrating it is to watch your tank crawl to the nearest resupply at a frustratingly slow speed. I've even had cases where fixing my tank by a resupply point would not fix my disabled turret (That HAS to be a bug right?) All of this takes the fun out of being a tank.
    Basically, attrition needs to be done away with for the most part. It's a useless mechanic that either has no real effect (Infantry or airplanes), or it's just frustrating to deal with (Tanks). Tanks shouldn't be condemned to a max health of 50-60% after one engagement, tanks shouldn't need to go to a resupply point to fix a disable.
    Beyond the attrition issues, there are other issues that plague tanks.
    Tanks are a complete joke against infantry. Watching the footage in this video, its hilarious watching how ineffective the splash damage of the main shell is (Look at 1:24, how did you not even damage the enemy?)
    Tanks having their own turret speed independent of your mouse sensitivity is stupid, at least on PC. We're not playing World of Tanks, the vast majority of our engagements are against infantry. Infantry can pop out their heads and shoot a panzerfaust at you, meanwhile the tank driver is trying to use the awkward acceleration-infested aim of the turret to shoot at this tiny head. Try to use the main turret and the splash damage is a complete joke. Perfectly aim your machine gun on a small infantry target and the damage is a complete joke, they'll probably get into cover before you can kill them.
    Finally, if the top gunner is going to be vulnerable against damage the least he should be able to do is take cover in the tank AND fully regenerate health. Unlike infantry on the ground, he will never be able to fully regenerate health. It's unlikely a medic will throw him a healthpack (Can a medic even throw a medpack at a top gunner?). Why should top gunners be condemned to immediately die after an engagement with a tank (Taking cover doesn't help a lot) or be condemned to have a max health of 30% until they die?
    Oh and holy fuck the animations... there's nothing more frustrating than watching a person completely block your turret's aim because he decided to bail out of your tank... and they usually decide to bail out of your tanks in the most critical moments such as when you're in engagement with another tank. You've got this perfect aim and BAM a person bailing out of your tank completely throws your aim off.
    I'll probably avoid tanks like the plague in this game. Being able to bully a heavy tank as an assault infantry is more fun.

      What I usually do to "solve" this is pop smoke and hop out to repair my tank with the wrench. You can completely repair it from 10 to 100 up in a few seconds, and can repair the "unrepairable" damage. Obviously has massive drawbacks like having your tank stolen by teammates or you getting shot through the smoke by some guy with a spamzerfaust.

    Personally the best tank killer for me is the Staghound with the following, 1- Improved loading mechanism 2- Field repair 3- Littlejohn adapter 4-Tulip Dumbfire rockets. I’ve taken out 4 tanks in a match so fast, 3 were Tiger tanks. If you’ve seen the film Fury, I felt as if I was reenacting it. For anti-infantry I use the Panzer 38t with the Pineapple wrench spotting scope auto cannon and mine deployer. These 2 tanks in my opinion are beasts in this game

    I think the best combo is Panzer 38T/Staghound with the 20mm autocannon. Its pretty universal, can take out anything; other vehicles and infantry. Use the MG for infantry (Autocannon only when they run for cover) and play smart with the autocannon vs other tanks. I average 60 kills 3-5 deaths with highest score in the round. My best being 86kills 1 death, top score. Although, to be fair, my best in BF1 was 136kills and 0 deaths, and BF4 was 158kills and 0 deaths.

    I always play tiger if I get the chance. And I tend to use tanks only in breakthrough where i can slowly advance behind my infantry and give them helpful support by shooting enemy defenses. Key with playing with a heavy tank is that you try to just do as much damage as you can with a push and then back away for resupply. With a full ammo load you can easily take tanks out if they have any, and push 1-2 objectives before needing to go back.

    Tip: if your tank health is very low it is way faster to go outside and repair it this is very risky so I suggest you use the smoke that every tank has so its safer also if you repair your tank outside you can repair it to full health.

    My main issue with the tanks is that infantry aren't afraid of them. Every time I enter a tank, there will be a group of enemies who spot me and will immediately run towards me. They SHOULD run for cover but instead they seem unfazed by a tank because they can take it out in 5 seconds. They need to seriously buff the tanks by a larger margin. Up the health, up the splash damage and up the maneuverability.

    As someone who mains tanks, I couldn't disagree more. When you decide you want to play a tank, the most important thing to think of is which tank is the best for the situation at hand. If you're on Hamada, a Tiger or Churchill might be the best choice. Rotterdam, a Valentine or Panzer 4 perhaps. Personally I avoid the light tanks because they're easy to kill, but if speed is needed I will play them. One thing I see a lot of players do is charge into the battle, and they get knocked out almost instantly. You want to hang back behind your infantry, supporting them with mg fire and a few well placed cannon shots. A specialization that really should be brought into the light is the AP/APC/APCR rounds. These things are what you use against tanks. One of two shots or AP from a Panzer 4 or APCR from a Valentine will jam a heavy tanks turret, another shot will take out the tracks. If you're behind hit the engine and disable it. Your regular cannon shells should be the last thing you run dry on, as MG is for infantry, AP is for armor, and regular cannon rounds are for both. TL;DR hang back behind infantry, and use the right weapon for the job

    Since the game allows you to assign three separate tanks when playing, here's how I was going to set up my vehicle roster. For allies, I would have the Staghound as my Anti-infantry vehicle, the Churchill as my anti-tank vehicle and the AA Valentine for Anti-Air. For Axis, I was going to use the PZ 38t as my anti-infantry, the Tiger as my anti-tank and AA Panzer as my anti air. However im still working on my specializations to maximize those roles. Im also spec-ing them out for a solo role since I rarely have friends to get on with at the same time so using them for myself is another way im using certain specs.

    Heavy tanks are pretty awful against infantry and lose out to fully specced medium and light tanks 1v1. Also they're big and slow, which is very dangerous in BF1 where the AT weapons are very strong and 80% of the enemy team at any given time is playing assault. Because it just kills everything better than anyone else outside of support in very specific situations.

    It takes some learning to use the tanks in this game, I personally when I get a tank I get about 20 or more kills and die... The other team gets annoyed and targets me with either bombers or half the team of assault classes.

    Tanks are fun but if I need to scratch my tank itch, I tend to play the Panzer storm map, as it is the best map for tanks. The reason I say this is if an assault player runs up on your tank they won't have much cover and you can easily exit zoom in and gun them down.

    Good info. But I'd never replace the emergency repair for track repair on anything. Same with wing repair. It makes you weaker with less health. Just know when to leave if your going to be surrounded.

    I've found that the Churchill and Tiger tanks to my liking, mysteriously Churchill, has a extremely fast reload (fast reload spec), while my tiger just naturally has a high powered cannon.
    A few tips I can suggest is to avoid forested areas at ALL costs. These are almost always filled with assualt infantry.
    And as our good UA-camr stated you probably shouldn't go on to points with a ton of buildings, as infantry likes hiding in those areas, but if you have a good friend,squad,ext you can move up, just be careful.
    A finale problem I've faced is resupplying, many times I've found myself in a position where i need ammo and repairs but the closest resupply station is controlled by the enemies, this is a rough situation but if you head back to base. You have a chance, dont wait as you be found by either a tank infantry, or a plane, you quite obviously cant charge the point as you probably don't have enough ammo,nor the support required. If you xqn head to another resupply station then go right ahead, but the safest is at your base.
    In the end your speed is your weakness but as long as you avoid areas where infantry can hide, you can take a tank head on, and planes are often to preoccupied with other planes. All you need is a good squad and caution to succeed on the battlefield.

    The Chirchill mark VI is an absolute beast against tanks when using the short barrel specialization and the AP round. It can 3shot every axis tank at every range, if you can manage to land the shells on target (due to the enormous bullet drop it isn't that easy). But still, it's my favourite tank in the game.

    have you looked into the Churchill gun carrier. it's ability to hide and ambush is what makes it a great option, people usually don't look for the Churchill. and it works even better on maps with a lot of cover/plants

    I'm absolutely amazed at the relative balance between the factions and between tanks. The Valentine is easily the best tank in the game with a better co-ax mg and far superior tech tree compared to the PzIV

    For all my Tiger mains out there:
    If you're struggling against support or infantry, use zimmerit and the s-mines. The s-mines are pretty effective if used correctly and even if you don't manage to 1 shot infantry with them, some players will back up when they're damaged, giving you an opportunity to take them out. I personally also got the turret ring and faster turret turning speed to provide from those oppertunities when they back up.

    No 4th specialisation needed unless you want to use Case round but don’t use the AP round as reduces blast massively!
    - great nimble tank, heavy anti tank cannon will win any tank battle with a few hits and annihilate soft targets like a Howitzer, smoke and field repair helps the lighter armour
    Allies: Churchill MK VII
    Improved loading mechanism
    Improved transverse rotation
    95mm Howitzer
    Mine clearing charge - don’t use the Hesh round or else you’ll suffer with blast damage against soft targets!
    - honestly this tank is a tank...the Howitzer has a blast damage where you really will land multiple kills with mediocre aiming and improved load speed helps against other tanks, plus faster rotation feels like using a smaller tank if anyone tries to flank you and you get smoke screen already with this tank, plus the heavy armour lets you take more hits... and finally the mine clearing charge is great for a last stand or even one hit kill a tank if close enough!

    Tanks are shit in this. Dead after two minutes because one shot from a Piat launcher disables the tank and someone puts dynamite on you. Even if a shell explodes next to an infantry it usually does no damage at all.

      Zyzor well maybe your playing wrong... although the shells are pretty weak when fired at infantry. But I can usually last almost the entire match with a single tabk

    The best tank to farm infantry is the Valentine AA, unlock the Canister Shell Rounds you can hold 40 then go to the supply stop there’s a bug where you can get an extra 40 in reserve. Once the restock ammo icon is about to do a full cycle switch immediately to the canister shells and it gives you 40 more so you have 80 rounds 80% of the time it one shots infantry but it’s a guaranteed 2 shot the balls do 50 damage which is a fuck ton of damage I think it fires 6 balls.

    I love tanks in this game something I found out on accident with the valentine is the mine clearing things are over powered if you get into close quarters with any other tank even a tiger it will kill them but you have to use all four(max)

    The Panzerfaust is a shaped charge. Nothing Verlosity orientated in the first place. So it not bouncing off kinda makes sense and is propably wanted by Dev

    Tanks are big metal boxes with a big gun and small gun with some other gun and when you shoot a a tank with explosives you get good numbers which gives you stuff

    Tiger I‘s 88 mm cannon just get very big blast and blast damage, which you can not get it from anywhere else currently. And it can also do load of damage on tanks. It will be even slightly better when you get either level 4 upgrade. Churchill Mk 5 in comparison does not worth the deal. But I can not make big use of AA tanks so I still keep the Churchill Mk 5 in the company.
    Panzer IV and Valentine are both the most universal and overall balanced tanks. And that's exactly why they are mostly used. They get descent effectiveness at anti-armor, descent defense, and enough speed to retreat from dangerous circumstance if you reconnaissance it in time.
    38T and T17 are good at anti-infantry and flank as well as the exclusive capabilities to scout enemies. The speed could potentially let you get in and rush out of enemy line, but still highly risky. In those two light armors you need to be careful of enemy cannons and tanks, you get very high one shot died line in front of them.
    I use Churchill Mk 5 when sometimes I'm tired about Valentine.
    Churchill gun carrier should be a try of DICE of adding self-propelled guns in BF5 (the Churchill Mk 5's howitzer upgrade should also be a try of another thing), cause there could be plenty of them in the future. It get a good gun. But there is just no place for this kind of vehicle imo, even in panzerstorm. DICE should do some work to improve usability of SPG.

    I’ve gotten out to repair the supply station and been fine. If I didn’t do it I wouldn’t ever have ammo or heath. But our ways of being a tanker are completely opposite. I would never do some of the things that you do but I guess everyone has their own ways. So yeah I disagree with many of the things you are saying but you have your opinion and I have mine.     Maybe a map guide with all the resupply points would be helpful. Twisted steel, I usually have to drive back to spawn or go near G flag I don’t know where other points are.

    Since theirs no way to talk to squad leaders or other team mates outside of your squad it’s nearly impossible to have synergy between tanks and infantry pushes rendering most tanks obsolete in their main purpose of break through.

    The tiger 1 is useful on maps where there are a lot of infantry vehicles and it is a lot better against tanks, I’m not a fan of how the valentine is as powerful as it is, there is a reason we consistently abandoned them during the war

    I use the tiger all the time and I’ve never lost a fight to a staghound. But the valentine is a good counter it’s quick enough to move around the tiger and armored enough to survive a few shots

    Playing in third person is extremely useful. I don't always play tanker since scouts is my main. But when I do I giggle like a schoolgirl when I see an assault place dynamite on me, and instantly back up and run them over, denying them a kill.

    Oh the 38T is op if you charge directly into another tank switch to third person and start shooting while driving in a circle the medium/heavy tanks can’t turn fast enough.

    Ok. In my experience, the valtine aa is EXTREMELY good against tanks. If you can be at range with the original main gun you can take out several tanks without them getting your range. Tips for this one is to stay at range and behind cover moving up slowly. If you get good against planes, the cannon is also very good if you hit shots. Ive found that a maximum of forty rounds can take out an experienced bomber. The fkaxpanzer is ok, but i dont have it to max yet.

    I have my loadouts for each faction setup for one three different tasks: anti-infantry, anti-vehicle, anti-air.
    Allies:
    AI - Valentine Mark 8 with case rounds as level four instead of APC (but I want to try out the 6 pdr and APC now). Quick repair and quick loading are essential with this tank
    AV - Churchill (one with rotating turret) Down the path to APC rounds. Not as good as the Tiger in my opinion, and you're a dead man if infantry rush you.
    AA - Valentine AA kinda sucks when you first use it, but now I have the triple guns. have to treat that single canon like a semi auto gun. best to be on comms with a bomber/fighter in the sky helping them out. it's VERY hard to completely kill a plane by yourself.
    Axis:
    AI - Panzer 38T, I used the same loudout as you, Art, and you definitely need to just support your squad of infantry or some other teammates. Other tanks can kill you fairly quickly. Smoke upgrade is VERY useful, this tank makes a huge cloud of smoke when activated.
    AV - Tiger, like the Churchill, an assault player or two who pushes you to within dynamite range will kill you easily, but this tank owns any other tank at medium to long range. I use the APC rounds a lot, and watch out for little tanks flanking behind you and shooting you in the rear for extra damage.
    AA - Flakpanzer, I kept the 4 guns throughout the upgrades and just about have the flaming onion rounds unlocked. this aa tank is better at killing infantry than the valentine aa.

    They need to let only support players have a panzefaust and make heavy tanks imune to dynamite but easily set on fire with molotov cocktail or a flamethrower, make medium tanks carry more ammo and have a faster reload but not imune to dynamite and for the light tanks they shoud have better agility and better rotability but for the cost of armor and they shoud be better in taking out infantry (better machine gun fire and less cooldown)

    I prefer to use the tiger more than any other tank, it’s to the point where if I want to use a tank I’ll keep leaving and joining matches just to use the tiger, no matter the situation it will win a tank on tank battle as long as you have the first shot and hit every shot

    i use the staghound and the panzer 38t as scout tanks get behind the enemy and use the speed to spot hit and run or if u got squadmates in planes manly on hamada u can spot for them

    i play my vehicles almost like it was historically, my british tanks are infantry support typically, and my German tanks are long range Anti-tank tanks (except the wirble which historically was anti personal, and anti air) the Tiger H1 (and other variants such as the Tiger E, which you can technically add to the game by designing the H1 in specializations and adding the zimmert since the H1 never had them) , anyways the Tiger H1 was meant to hid from a distance and destroy other tanks and mobil vehicles, so i tend to play and tend to each of their historical ways

    The main thing that bugs me with tank on tank or infantry on tank fights is that the damage seems random. I have routinely smacked tanks multiple times in the same location for vastly different amounts of damage / critical damage. There doesn't seem to be any consistency at all.

    Tanks in urban areas are in reality ALWAYS used as infantry support vehicles. You have to have friendly infantry around and preferably in front of you to be successful. Having a 3 man squad with at least 1 support repairing you in a Valentine will almost make you unstoppable in 1 on 1 tank battles. Stay with your squad, use cover even as a tank, and you will survive much longer. A lone tank, away from friendly infantry is, was, and always will be a super easy target. A tank in narrow corridors in a city environment will always die extremely quickly.

    As a smaller tank you can use them without infantry. Be mobile to avoid panzerfausts

    In my opinion it is better to upgrade your tank to get more armour. Always stay a bit behind infantry as they charge and just cover them. Planes will mostliekley not be able to target you as you are a small target and planes would bomb bigger groups of infantry.
