  • Samita Basu is an artist by profession. At heart, she is a storyteller, her work marked by a deep empathy for the characters that dot her
narrative landscape, particularly her female protagonists. Through their eyes, she reflects upon the
human condition and paints stories that are sometimes dark, sometimes brazen, sometimes
despairing, sometimes vivacious but, in their telling, always truthful.
Now, with the launch of her first book of short stories (in Bengali) - "Ananno O Paris Kaku" (Others and Paris Uncle), she's transferred her story-telling from canvas to paper. In Part 2 (of 3), independent art curator, reciter and narrator, Sounak Chacraverti reads a short story from the book and well-known author and poet, Sangeeta Bandopadhyay,› discusses it in the context of contemporary Bengali writing. The event is moderated by Neeti.
