Mate I used to laugh when people would come to do trainspotting and take pics at the station. But I think I genuinely understand more about why it's done now, these trains hold so many memories of growing up, being able to open the door as the train was moving and jumping off to avoid the inspectors as a kid. Really was a part of life gone forever. I don't like the souless new trains and the crappy (har har) automated toilets. Give me a manual lock any day. Memories, thanks for posting this.

@metadyneman this was posted on a forum "I'm hearing from several sources that the Great Central Railway have now disposed of 1393. The Motor Brake and the Buffet car have been removed for use elsewhere, and the two Driver Trailers have both been sold to a scrap company." ;-(

I can't honestly say I miss the VEPs. They were draughty, cold and downright annoying with doors opening onto every seat bay! I do miss the CEPs and CIGs though :)

@oashmole when you say gone, do you mean gone for scrap or gone elsewhere?

I,ve found a pic of 3490 on the web at the back end of a scrap train on it's way to Sim's yard in Newport. Sad that this was on the formation of the last train to run from Vic to Brighton and it ened up as knives & forks!

@metadyneman yeah it is a shame that a few more could have not been saved, its also bad that the 4 BIG unit at the Great Central Railway has also gone now, i can't work out why he got rid of it.

What happened to the old pictures you had on fotopic? The site is no longer active and you had some good photos on it.

+FM Dude98 The site is no longer active as fotopic went bust, i spent a lot of time and money with fotopic, so when it went, i decided not to bother anymore with photo sites.

+ADF Productions Sorry for the late reply, anyway it doesn't really matter.

Premature end for a lot of perfectly good, refubishable stock. Historically far too many expensive changes are made to Britain's railway stock when items go out of "fashion". We are left with uncomfortable toytown colour, plasticky trains, with hard seats, that you cannot ventilate, just because some politically correct commitee thinks they look modern. Not one life has been saved by banning slamming doors/opening windows.

Nice shots but I need to hear the doors and you cut away before everyone got of and on. This is not just you. Everyone has fabulous films of EMUs coming in to the platform then cut away to the train leaving.

The reason for that was because i was getting on the train to ride it.
