Thanks Nick for doing my request! I thought you might really like this one! Both Jimmy and Ian are the main vocalists and the other three are backing vocalists but both Steve and Don have taken the lead vocals on a handful of songs. You are 100% correct that the different vocal styles of Jimmy and Ian compliment each other so well and then backed by the song writing genius of Don Walker (keyboards in this video), make them truly one of the greatest bands of all time. Great reaction keep up the great work!

Take the song writing genius of Don and Ian, and don't forget the small fact that there is very few bands that every single member has written a hit song, and I believe they have all taken the lead singer role on those hits as well...
It would be good to see a reaction of the top hit from every member, but unfortunately I can't afford to put the proposal forward.

“One of the most destructively powerful voices in history… His voice is that thunderous, it’s that powerful, it’s like a destruction, it’s like a hurricane, or a tornado, or an earthquake.”-ThatSingerReactions
Dominic, you’re always such an astute observer. You’re right and what a fantastic description!
I’ve been reading the Jimmy Barnes autobiography series (Working Class Boy, Working Class Man, Killing Time) and Jimmy states this is exactly what he wanted to be. He wanted to sing like and be like and have his band like a powerful, the most powerful destructive force of nature a band could possibly be. Jimmy suffered a destructive childhood and he was angry. He wanted to offend adults by being as loud and coarse as he possibly could. He wanted the band to spew anger and to be loud and to be destructive. He used to push the band to go faster and harder any way possible. He used to turn up Ian Moss’ amp and loud as he could when Ian wasn’t looking so the rest of the band was forced to turn up too. He used to goad Ian to go faster, he even used to jump on the backs of other band members to piss them off so they would go faster and harder. He wanted to whip the audience into a fury of energy any way he could.
This pushing to and fro between Cold Chisel members is a major part of what made the energy of the band so powerful. The record producers tried to tame their sound down. This is why everyone says that their live performances were always so much more powerful than their recordings. This is why Cold Chisel fought with producers because they knew their appeal, they knew what their fans wanted. Cold Chisel did not want to be tamed.
Once again, you’ve nailed it Dominic. You understand the essence of Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes. 🙂

Trivia for comment readers . If you watch interviews with Barnsey when Cold Chisel were on the way up, Jimmy spoke with an Aussie accent . Colin Hay from Men at Work did as well . Colin actually has mentioned in interviews which year he reverted to a Scottish accent. I thought perhaps when they were younger they wanted to fit in ,and when they got older wanted to stand out .

Chisel plays every card in the pack. All five band members wrote songs - must have been some wild scenes as they made final choices for album track lineup. That diversity of writing alone puts them in a special place. And one of the five, Don Walker, knocked out poetic lyrics like he was writing grocery lists.
Diversity... with five creative guys all writing, it's no surprise they moved through an array of styles: pub rock, blues, reggae, soul, rockabilly. Occasionally, out would come a radio-friendly pop tune.
And how many of the select class of multi-writer bands had such a wealth of vocal talent to exploit? So often, they hit us with their patented one-two punch: Mossy opening the verse and chorus, Barnes filling in and harmonizing, then stepping forward for the bridge and unleashing his massive vocal power. The band knew they had a rare gift with these two fine but contrasting voices, and they wrote for this, played the drama for all it was worth.
Jim Barnes can play the classic rock front man to perfection, but I love that he pulls it back and lets the band shine, lets Mossy shine, and just plays his part. So much better together.

Best Barnes vocals for me is "All The Young Dudes".

You found the right concert, mate! Now buy the DVD... Barnesy won't give away the good stuff on this forum. It's the only Chisel IP worth with-holding and making you buy.
    Worth every cent, mate.

Love your reactions and insight into vocals, yeah Jimmy's voice is like the perfect storm! Jimmy and Ian's voices though so different sound so amazing together...it's sublime! You know they come from Adelaide and when I was in my 1st year of high school (1975) they played a free concert at our school, just wow little did we know how big they would become but we still felt very privileged that they played for us!

Love the way you sing this mate - would love to hear you do the whole lot... ( it's my favourite Cold Chisel song too )... if you want another great Chisel song, try When the War is Over , but from the Ringside album. Beautiful ballad.
