  • Pop Goes Your Heart (1934) is the 93rd Looney Tunes short and it gets my review treatment! The last Merrie Melodies of 1934 and a little better than the previous short though not by much.

Frank Tipper later worked for Harman-Ising at MGM, Walter Lantz, animated the title sequence for the 1949-'50 edtion of "THE LIFE OF RILEY" (and worked on Pabst Blue Ribbon commercials seen on "THE LIFE OF RILEY" and "PABST BLUE RIBBON BOUTS"}, and put in time at Cascade Pictures, Halas + Batchelor, and finally joined Hanna-Barbera. Frank died at a young age [54] in 1963.

This one is a snooze. It really feels like something that was made to show Leon Schlesinger and Warner Bros. WHY they couldn't make the types of "Silly Symphony" cartoons Disney was making. They didn't have the color palette or the budgets. "See this? This sucks. It's not worth the effort. Give us a budget for this, or let us do what we'd rather be doing anyway: funny cartoons."

7:03- Friz reused the sequence of the worm spanking the little bird in "Billboard Frolics" (1935); it became a baby chick. Sandy Walker was also one of the animators on that one.

This was the earliest (pre-1948) Warner Bros. color cartoon in the A.A.P. "package" I saw on WNEW-TV {New York} in the early 1970's.

It's okay. Not horrendous, but definitely not memorable either. I do like some of the music, but the animation doesn't look so splendid, particular that of the bear. This one is like a 5 out of 10 for me too..
