Lol, more than just 80's kids. I grew up listening to this stuff. Learned to love it early. Got made fun of so much in school for not knowing the latest pop groups and such. And now, I have to giggle at all these people around my age and younger discovering classic songs like this. It's adorable watching their faces light up as they really get into it. XD

You wanna hear his pipes, you need to check him out live. Dang. That guy can sing. Bon Jovi was so big in the 80s, to be honest, I didn't appreciate the raw talent until many years later. I usually would change the station whenever they came on. I'm glad ive grown to give them a chance because they have truly earned their place as rock legends.
So true, in the 80's so much of our identity was around the music we liked/listened to, so because I was a new wave kind of girl, hair bands held little appeal. Now I love them all, saw Def Leppard a few years ago in concert with Journey opening for them, and they were amazing. But in high school, if they didn't look like Flock of Seagulls, Thompson Twins, or that genre, I never gave them a chance.

I was about 19 when this was out. I was in the Marine Corps at that time. What a great time to be a young person. The music scene was so amazing. Since you are a rap fan... I had that too. Run DMC and Beastie Boys were already big... Bon Jovi was non stop on MTV at this point. How do you know bands are good? Well, 40 years later and they still sell out their shows.. thats how you know they are great. Livin on a prayer is referring to the young couple this song was about... they were starting off young and had very little... thus they were living on a prayer.

I was young when JBJ hit the airwaves and I swear I still play the air drums the same way he just did...love it!
I remember when this song came out. Everyone knew it was an instant hit. I love songs that build and you can feel from the beginning intro the excitement building. The chorus hits you hard and makes you scream the lyrics! The song continues and right when you think the building of the song can not get any bigger there is a key change for the final chorus that blows your mind! We played this song in pep band and for first trumpet they were the highest notes I have ever tried to hit!

This song is a masterclass in the classic 80s epic wale in rock songs. That singing yell kept in control and in tune to the music without overshadowing the music. a wale in complete harmony that adds to the song. The singers these days, when they even try a wale, tend to be too loud or stand out too much from the song, trying to be the center instead of part of the song.

Video came out in 1987; so called “‘87 revolution”...Hair bands told off; this song was HUGE, and SO MANY good Albums dropped that year. Motley Crue, Poison & Cinderella (came out in 86 popular in 87), Guns N’ Roses, Def Leppard’s Hysteria album, Whitesnake Etc etc. and MTV played videos lol

Makes me happy to see you enjoying what has come to be known as "hair metal," a signature sound in the 80s. Bon Jovi is definitely a huge name in the genre but another group you might like is Cinderella, specifically their song "Nobody's Fool." It's not just a song, it's an anthem, really.
