Its not a disapointment just for being different than the m4... just means its targeting a different market segment. A bently isnt a ferrari, and a gtr isnt a 911 but they're both good in their own way.
I can't believe that somebody is able to write a normal (not biased, not offensive, not trolling) comment. Congrats... And BTW... Yes, that's absolutely true.
I would buy a GTR over a 911 as the GTR is all wheel drive which I require to complete my job and to get to the ski hills on the weekend. I know a 911 can be AWD but at a much higher price.
Being in the same price bracket doesn't mean its character must be identical. In marketing a model strives to establish distinctness for the sake of establishing a unique identity. They are inner the same price bracket not targeting the same market segment specifically, theres a difference.
devan singh Man, i don't mean to get in a fight with you, C Class and Bmw 4 series are the same class as Audi a5. All cars are tageting the same market segment as GLC cloupe is targeting the same market segment as BMW X6
When I first saw this car, I much preferred the old RS5. After looking at it from more angles, especially with these rims, (rather than those other diamond cut ones) It looks amazing. I guess car designers know what people want before they even know they want it.This also would turn more heads than a M4.
You need to stop complaining about RS looking like normal A series. Of course it will look like it, but it looks MUCH better and it is the same story for AMG and M as well. Please, please, please, stop saying weird stuff like that.
Different people have different preferences. For me, it is way more important to get 1) a suspension that can be comfortable enough for a daily, 2) wonderful sharp looks (imo), 3) extreme speed when I want, but none of the it-wants-to-kill-me kind, 4) superb traction for a lot of rainy and snow days, ... If Mr. Batchelor's usual day involves the tail-sliding nonsense, he should recognise that the days of most people buying this don't. Audi folks have done tons of research, and the car is fit for its purpose. Similarly to the RS7 everyone loves. Except, this does not have a V8, and I couldn't care less...
i really love the design of the A5. The good thing about Audis nearly non-existent design changes is, that you can buy a cheaper car from 2010 and it still looks like a modern A5
Good review James :o) - does the bonnet design with all of those creases remind anyone else of the front end of a Zeppelin ? - even the price is similar.
Good review and with a little surprising end verdict to it. I´m not really an Audi fan but it´s not that I do not like Audi´s, they make very high quality and their service is extremely well put together. But for looks the older 5 series had more beautiful lines - and thats not little since that car really made the 5 Series Coupe stand out when it was launched, the sway over the rear box was the the touch of beauty - if you choose some nice rims and a good color the S and RS 5 looked fantastic - a pleasure to the eye and in line with classical GT Coupes over the years. This new RS5 and the 5 Coupes in general does not have the same grace as the older model and it has been sacrificed for practicality. The mid section has been pushed forward so the hood is a little shorter and the rear box is a little bit longer - but it´s enough to offset the classic high end sport coupe cut. When the mid section is pushed towards the middle you end up having some numbness or dullness due to the visual volumes not coming out clearly, not making enough dynamics. But perhaps or rather for sure Audi has researched what their customers would like - And it was apparently practicality, more space in for the backseats and more space in the trunk. So there you have it - Audi people are practical folks who like luxury and things that works well - A good and very fast car is enough - it does not have to be exciting to drive, neither be compromised for design reasons. Well it could look better, but it could also be far worse. What used to be my favorite Audi is not my favorite anymore.
I find it fantastic to drive and fun. I much prefer it to the RS6 and it will beat an M4 and C63 on the country roads. If the M4 and C63 tried to compete they would end up in a ditch. Not everyone wants boy racer loud, aggressive and dangerous.
100%... driven both... New RS3 is quicker, sounds better... but unfortunately its not as classy and its a little small... but I agree, its a giant killer.
Smoking your ass on here, you little div. You cant sure stupid but you can improve your English ;-) Its " What the fuck are you smoking..." You are welcome!
im just going to write here that couple days ago my fathers Dacia Logan(1.6 liter 8 valves/90 hp) has hit 500,000km from 2007 to 2017..... call me back when some other car can do as much as that.
Yeah well it's true Audi's are boring to drive, but that's kind of the point, comfortable cruiser with the performance of a beast. You don't need to go to a chiropractor when you drive cross country with one, but the power is on tap when you need it. It's for men who know their age, not for those having a midlife crisis...just kidding don't hit me :P...
Why do you complain about an already well-built interior making its way to upper segments of a certain model range ? I mean what would be the costs if they'd build different interiors for, say, FWD TDI, quattro TFSI, S5 AND RS5 ? That is a quite unnecessary complaint for any given model of any given brand, in my opinion. You might as well turn the tables, change your perspective by looking at it as a 65k£ interior in a 20k£ car and not the other way around, amirite ?
The problem with the S and RS moniker is that they have problems with steering feel and turning. They have always been exceptionally quick. Nothing new here
No drama? I think you should consider the extra HP in this bi turbo engine. The S line from Audi is always focused on the sportive touch and less on the luxury, just look to the R8 or the TT RS
It's not a negative thing that the Coupe RS5 looks the same as the normal Audi because it's already perfect, but I think Audi's management have overestimated with the price of this coupe
Waste of a review... Audi had been going this route for over a decade... You seriously didn't know this car would be like this?? In reality - for most buyers - that's what they want.
When you show trunk (boot) space have you ever thought of placing a golf bag in the trunk? I would think most men would appreciate that. Otherwise great review.
If you watched the launch of this car you'd have heard that Audi were aiming this car more of a GT driving experience rather balls to the wall track specialist so...
The people commenting are really ignorant here, how the fuck can an AWD beat a 100% driver's car for fucks sake? Audi isn't even a competiton, the car is supposed to be wild, be able to drift, do crazy fucking stunts and be fun to drive, the Merc is at least rear wheel drive, but AMGs are just luxury comfort sedans packed with huge engines, and will never be able to compare to a car with a full M body. I mean this guy himself said, the car is a disappointment, Audi can't beat BMW and Mercedes, literally the only positive thing was that this car is fucking comfortable, and I am pretty sure no grandpa looking for a comfortable day to day ride will ever buy this shit. Another Volkswagen abomination, good job guys.
Owned a new M3 F80. After 10 months I sold it to somy guy. I can't stand nervous rear axle which was not able to transfer all the power to the ground. One day I will come back and buy some monster. But I'm assuming it will be an Audi R8 because of the 'fun factor'. I spent a nice week with this car and nothing from M division can beat this. I hope one day BMW will introduce a supersport car similar to M1. I really loved my M3 but it was too dangerous for me (at least for my skills).
Not sure tbh, with an M4 and C63 you are Guaranteed to get all the hot chicks. Plus the M4 and C63 look and sounds way more special. I just think this is an S5 with an RS5 badge. Not my cup of tea tbh. But thats my opinion
With the Virtual Cockpit, why does Audi insist on sticking a screen on the centre of the dash that makes it look like an afterthought. (Admittedly Audi and BMW do this much neater than Mercedes, but they're all guilty of this in modern designs.) Surely, with the brilliant Virtual Cockpit, there's a much neater way of housing the MMI system?
No Jan, it is not as simple as that. I am talking about how they develop a car. According to VAG, most of the Bentleys are based on the Audi A8 platform ( the Bentley Bentayga is based on a different Audi platform), and Porsche only uses an Audi platform for the Macan (the Cayenne is based on a Volkswagen platform). At the same time, the Audi A3 is based on the Golf platform, and the A1 is based on the Polo platform (it's basically the same car). So, we could say that Bentleys are just more expensive and luxurious Audis, and that the A1 is just a VW Polo "in drag".
Audi with another lazy expensive uninspiring release then. I had high hopes after the excellent virtual cockpit. But let's face it, you pass an Audi on the motorway and it could be the 2007 or the 2017 model, you can't tell the difference
Its not a disapointment just for being different than the m4... just means its targeting a different market segment.

devan singh True people forget this all the time

You're the first and only reviewer that has said they're disappointed in the way this car drives.
This car is extremely gorgeous! The wheels, the bodykit, the color, the exhaust tip, even the headlights. Everything is on point. Damn...
When I first saw this car, I much preferred the old RS5. After looking at it from more angles, especially with these rims, (rather than those other diamond cut ones) It looks amazing. BBC NEWS AT NINE: James Batchelor, car reviewer, killed by a BMW M4
Different people have different preferences. "Steering is light & numb"
Have you tried changing the driving mode to the sportiest setting? Because there's quite a difference in their steering.
Car wow > car buyer
presenter
john paul bcuz of mat watson 🤣
I give props to the guy for not stopping with the reviews even tho generally everybody is disliking him, including me lol.
"Oooh crikey, this is quick!" Dot Cotton impression at 5:15.
i really love the design of the A5.
The good thing about Audis nearly non-existent design changes is, that you can buy a cheaper car from 2010 and it still looks like a modern A5
Good job James! Nice car and review!
Can't believe such premium car comes with hankok tires!
Audi literally said the RS5 is a GT car so it's not surprising that it drives like a GT car.
Nice review, both content and production value wise. You have upped your game.
Thanks so much 4 pointing the car flaws, nowadays no many car testers do that.
James is making excellent points here but even when used as a GT cruiser I'd pick the C63 coupé. In a class of its own - and that sound....
I love how they lowered the grill on the front of the new A5's they look great
its like you have never been in a Audi RS car they are all like this , your job must be too hard for you to draw logical parallels
Did anyone else notice that he said "that hasn't been untouched" at around 0:58? Surely he meant to say "has been untouched" or "hasn't been touched?"
James you look very smart love your new hair cut! and love your videos mate
Great review James. Keep up the good work!
Does it have torque vectoring like the previous gen?
He doesn't understand the philosophy of the new RS / Audi sport. He can't review expensive cars
I always cringe at how close he sits to the steering wheel. Please give space for the air bag to deploy.
Cougarsamurai LOL thanks for that image!
For someone who can't even keep within the lanes when driving, you sure talk a lot about driving characteristics.
Good review James :o) - does the bonnet design with all of those creases remind anyone else of the front end of a Zeppelin ? - even the price is similar.
Nice haircut James!
can we get the m4 in awd finally?
So, are you a bachelor?
Confirmed one, I think.
That centre console looks ancient. It reminds me of my granddad's AM radio… two knobs on each end with push buttons inbetween.
Is it a 2017 or 2018 model ?
Good review and with a little surprising end verdict to it.

Save you're money, wait for the RS3 saloon 👍🏻👍🏻
Save your money get a LC500, lol
will you stfu with your Prius! Seems like you are getting paid for every comment about your stupid Toyota
100%... driven both... New RS3 is quicker, sounds better... but unfortunately its not as classy and its a little small... but I agree, its a giant killer.
Smoking your ass on here, you little div. You cant sure stupid but you can improve your English ;-) Its " What the fuck are you smoking..." You are welcome!
You're ridiculous if you think the RS3 is quicker.
I have the same car. Just on the inside of course and I love it.
im just going to write here that couple days ago my fathers Dacia Logan(1.6 liter 8 valves/90 hp) has hit 500,000km from 2007 to 2017..... call me back when some other car can do as much as that.

I don't get it either. The interior of the mercedes c63 amg has no difference to a normal c class either. Same applies to bmw.
The problem with the S and RS moniker is that they have problems with steering feel and turning. They have always been exceptionally quick. Nothing new here
A great honest review thanks

i read somewhere that we could be looking at rwd VWs (so...Audis too i guess) in a few years... maybe then the fun begins :P
Tough choice really has to be the E63s 😂😂
Horrible video quality. Get rid of the filters, they're ruining the videos.
i wish mat was here to review this. dont get me wrong, james is a very good reviewer but mat was special
Is it actually pink?
That spec dose not do that car justice. But I still don't like the 4 wheel drive as it increases under steer and not as much fun
I am not a great fan of James. He doesn't review well expensive cars.
Cheers
All the people who can actually drive said that this is nice to drive
I don't think he's bad and maybe he even improves...
Don't listen to this idiot....you're doing a great job James!
kraenk12 hey smart boy. Should everyone have the same opinion as you on James ?
Duncan Idaho hahaha
It's a coupe for grown ups home boy. The other beasts are lovely with high school manners
Who buys an RS5 for fuel economy!? No-one!
This is my issue with almost all Audis, there fast but got no bite and are less aggressive. I admire the Quattro and speed though.
I honestly prefer this than an m4/amg 63s , if I wanted something more raw or emotional I would rather get a giulia
All of a sudden everyone is putting filters on their videos, we can't even see the colours in and on the car properly
If you watched the launch of this car you'd have heard that Audi were aiming this car more of a GT driving experience rather balls to the wall track specialist so...
Colour balance?
Ohhhh Crikey!!!
Happy haircut😂
I like the rs5 better than the m4 butt i rather have m3 competitionpackage that the rs5👍
Why did audi had to f*ck up the A5 front 😞
Socialmente Inconveniente they really made so ugly am driving the a5 black edition 2013 it's much sexier then the new one
Shalao Faraj you think so bc you can't afford new one
Edmond Ameti haha let's not talk about money 😂
Socialmente Inconveniente when it was first released i didn't like the front but later i loved it soo much it is really amazing and beasty
I like it a lot more ^^
C63 a better all rounder for similar money. This is just a glorified S4 with some extra tuning.
did i just see a matt Watson popping up at the end?
a lot nicer than an M4
Wiktor Kawala and u can drive it during the winter..
Wiktor Kawala nothing compared to a C63
Exactly - It´s "nicer" - softer and more practical all together, what more would you want...
nahh you're dreaming haha
Wiktor Kawala AMG > RS > M Power
0-60 in 3.9 with awd? That's slow 😂, the m4 does it in 4.1 with rwd
3.7...faster than any M4
I just hate to watch half of the video putting big bottles, crisps, and suitcases in the boot. Like it matters so much
Audi catches the 2 Fast 2 Furious virus..
I would have an m4 body with and Audi RS5 interior.
The way he talks sounds patronizing, i don't like it
I want this car! 😢
Yes

even if ur minted you cant buy one audi have stopped all uk petrol sales for some reason!
5:16 😂😂
Arrest me red. Perfect colour.
I just assume this guy snaps his fingers a lot while talking.
This should have been a V8 with some turbos stuck on.
Not sure tbh, with an M4 and C63 you are Guaranteed to get all the hot chicks.
Plus the M4 and C63 look and sounds way more special.
I just think this is an S5 with an RS5 badge.
Not my cup of tea tbh.
But thats my opinion
putting the driving feel aside for a minute, it barely beats the 2 metric ton BMW 540 in 0-60. it's not going to compete with the M4 in any capacity.
they had to use a BMW m4 front 😆
Whats wrong with the red color in this video? This car looks more orange. Fix your color grading!
Will i be kicked out if i said the older rs5 looks better? This one just looks tacky imo.
DO THE ENGLISH REALLY STORE POTATO CHIPS IN THE GLOVE BOX?
Aggressive? Dude! Its Doesn't!
Yup m4 or c63 for me I think.

so badass
Mate sorry but it barely has any wheel arches
James decided to copy Doug deMuro at 5:12
So it's a budget Bentley GT
No. It's an expensive VW
So is a Bentley. So what?
Ismael Tenenbaum Porsche is too VW. Lambo is VW. Audi is VW. Bentley? VW too. So what now?

If only the screen is retractable like the A6 and A3...
This colour grading isn't flattering
Audi with another lazy expensive uninspiring release then. I had high hopes after the excellent virtual cockpit. But let's face it, you pass an Audi on the motorway and it could be the 2007 or the 2017 model, you can't tell the difference
Sorry but it looks ugly looks like the new mustang coming out I would wait on the next M4. Even the current M4 looks much better exterior wise.
Well I think we can agree to disagree. Reddy.
kraenk12 I agree on that!
Is any one really interested in this Garb.
95k for a car that cant even keep up in a rolling race against a c63s lol
That'll look great 1FT away from the back of your car on the motorway!
