Part of the permit possess should be evaluating a structures usefulness regardless of its area. That could have been used for other stuff like a doctors office or a dentists or even daycare. Whats going back in its place? Whats the value to the local area as is or replaced? Same holds true for building permits.
Sometimes the land under a building is (or becomes) way more valuable than the building. Someone buys the property for, say, an office building. Clearing off a 30-year old convenience store is a minor expense. Moving or parting out the building isn't cost-efficient. So... demolition. It's a shame, but it's the reality.
To what extent does it make sense to separate out different materials as you demolish the building, like metals? Or do these get separated if/when the debris is shredded at some other location?
Cost of disposal is the primary determining factor. Scrap metal has value and is usually sold to a scrap dealer. Mixed demolition waste is very expensive to dispose of. Paying demolition waste rates to get rid of valuable steel doesn't make sense, so the easy to pick or significant chunks of steel are always plucked out. Most demolition companies don't process their waste any further then they do on site. Typically a third party waste removal company will be hired to remove and dispose of the waste from the site (what they do with after that is a whole other discussion). Some demolition companies will spend more time tearing down the building and more thoroughly sorting the debris as they go(concrete/brick, Wood, Metals, etc). More common on very large building demolitions where the disposal cost to just send it all mixed would be astronomical. Some even go as far as deconstructing certain parts of the buildings and saving things like windows, doors, fixtures, etc to resale or donate. Its ultimately a numbers game for the owner and/or demolition company.

lemme guess, you couldve hand stripped that building in a quarter of the time, salvaged every screw, washer, piece of wire and metal and cleaned up the debris
Well if you could pay someone to strip all materials that could practically be reused you'd spend as much on labor as you would recoup from the effort. Plus this demolition is probably on a time schedule so you don't have a month to fool around doing that. Besides other than the metal you're not going to get much value from used building materials from these cheaply constructed buildings. I would assume these demo projects are more profitable the less time you take for each job and move on to the next one.

Wieso werden die Scheiben bei Euch nicht vorher ausgebaut für ins Recycling ? Bei uns wird ein Gebäude erst entkernt (Fenster heraus, Heizkörper heraus, Elektroleitungen heraus) und dann abgerissen.
I know theres a method to doing this... but I wanna do this once in my life :)
Remember dude, you always carry the master key to anyplace you demo. 😂
I know where this was! Crazy seeing it torn down!
Where was it located
Starving kids in Africa could have eaten that convenience store!
Next time save the LED lighting from the outside. They are worth a lot of money. They run about $150 to $400 each.
They were at its last legs working 24/7/365x25
not sure if that wallpack on the right hand wall of the building was LED. though i would of saved it before the demo anyways.
Before you go inside better hope that excavator operator isn't pissed at ya...lol
Watching this video was cool and refreshing!
Glad you enjoyed it!

What a great video I enjoy watching your videos I like your videos a lot keep making great videos I like your videos a lot keep making great videos
3:20, when the customer doesn’t pay 😂😂😂
You seem to do a lot of commercial jobs. Is that more profitable than residential? Harder? Easier? Just different? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Gas Station demolition. Reminds me of the Gas Station demolition by Jonathan Winters in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World". Only Jonathan was much faster and only had a pickup truck. HA!
Very funny scene!🤣
Looking forward to this demo, already started out amazing breaking in haha!
Thanks, buddy. I hope you like it.
@@HomeWreckerBrian Thanks man, really enjoyed this one. From the puns to the water line busting, this was not short of action! Perfect times to speed things up too, appreciate that a lot!
That’s nothing, my city demolished a 6 story elevator tower with the same excavator.
What a waste of material.
lemme guess, you couldve hand stripped that building in a quarter of the time, salvaged every screw, washer, piece of wire and metal and cleaned up the debris
No its not
Well if you could pay someone to strip all materials that could practically be reused you'd spend as much on labor as you would recoup from the effort. Plus this demolition is probably on a time schedule so you don't have a month to fool around doing that. Besides other than the metal you're not going to get much value from used building materials from these cheaply constructed buildings. I would assume these demo projects are more profitable the less time you take for each job and move on to the next one.
All these people wanting to save this stuff, it would take weeks to strip it all down. Who’s going to pay for it?
0:50 are those tornado sirens i hear
🤔😒too bad the huge panes of glass cant be physically removed and recycled, cut smaller to other uses🤔
remove and sell of door hinges and etc. 2nd hand stores could resell🤔
That building still looks in good shape
It's kinda scary how the building just came apart in big huge sections
Watching a excavator demolish a building is like watching a giant carnivore dinosaur eating its prey
None of this makes any sense. They could have used this building to house the homeless.
Exactly. I'm homeless in my car watching this. I would've loved to turn that manager's office into a bedroom and build a shower somewhere. I'd finally be able to function like a human being again and hold down a full-time job.
@@Network126 I wish you the best, buddy. Keep working hard to get out of this hole you’re in.
Djkyou 🌹😘😘❤❤❤ are you single how old you are
Lmfao. Yeah tell the new land owner that. Or the city that has deemed this building unsafe or didn’t follow building code and fixes cost too much. lol ooorrr get a job and buy yourself a house. Bum little liberals.
🙄right. The owner is going to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of dollars, and go bankrupt
That thing looks like an angry dinosaur 😂
Crazy for a western European guy to see stuff get torn down like this, over here it's all sorting at the source. Wood/metal/waste/rubble it all gets separated and recycled, seems like across the pond they just throw it all in a big pile and haul it off
This guy should be a comedian 😂. Never want to see that outside of your window 😂
