James you are such a good sport!! Whoever invented this product has waaaay to much time on their hands. I'll keep using a bowl and a fork.
Don't put down people who try to innovate and try new things. Not everything is a bullseye.
How are you going to get a solid scrambled egg in a bowl and fork? This device isnt for just scrambling eggs it is primarily for boiled eggs
The reason you see leaking is the membrane inside that keeps the eggs from seeping through the porous shell has been scrambled :)
@@bufordmaddogtannen You are thinking of washing. Eggs have a natural coating that fills the pores of the shell, this keeps things like bacteria from getting in. When eggs are washed it is removed. This is why washed eggs must be refrigerated. The inner membrane is different and works as an air and moisture seal but will not defend against bacteria.
@@notavailable9919 my reasoning is that if the external coating is stripped away by the washing process, the contents of the egg can leak once the membrane is ruptured.
This should not happen / should happen less with unwashed eggs.
@@bufordmaddogtannen I get what you are saying. Regardless, unless you are getting eggs straight from the source, just about all eggs sold in a grocery store are washed. The reason for the leaking is still the rupturing/scrambling of the inner membrane.
You can tell that I'm a fan of James, I'm watching this video about eggs and I'm allergic to eggs. 🥚🥚🥚
@@hendyk78 As someone with an egg allergy I vomit stomach acid for about 24 to 48 hours
The problem with the hardboiled "golden egg" is the yellow yolk that is not typically on the outer shell is more powdery and sticky vs the white which becomes more hard and rubbery.
I made scrambled eggs with a sock. My sons told me you just put the egg in the middle and swing and pull. We did this and a simple sock worked very well. I think nylons would work best but nylons are cheaper and do the same thing. We hard boiled it after to see how wells was mixed..I was amazed how we the hack worked
Yeah, I remember making scrambled eggs like that some years ago.
I wanted to surprise my girlfriend. But it worked better than expected. She thought something was wrong with the egg and refused to eat it... 🤣
don't use the wrong socks for your eggs, some socks might be used by your sons for another purpose
You can also just scramble them in the pan. Sorry but I’m confused as to why people are trying to make the easiest food to work with easier
@@skylerbehunin7777 maybe for the egg-shape scrambled egg novelty every now and then...lol
This seems more like an exercise tool than a kitchen gadget. You are such a good sport!😄
I would have lost my mind peeling those eggs. Off camera, I'd be having some choice words with that device. LOL!
I was one of the original kickstarter backers for this (I dunno, I just like egg gadgets). I haven’t touched it in years. I don’t care about pre-scrambling an egg before cracking it, I’ll just whisk it in a bowl, but I wanted to make the golden eggs. The company recommends not peeling them at all but cutting the whole in-shell boiled egg in half lengthwise and then scooping the insides out with a wet spoon to try and make it look like a smooth egg half. Just not worth the hassle. 🤷🏻♀️
They probably don't peel well because of the broken membrane, like you mentioned. Maybe try it again, but add some baking soda or vinegar (just not the two together, LOL) to see if softening the shell helps with peeling.
I am always amazed at the number of egg products you seem to find to review.
Because eggs are delicious and egg cooking products are everywhere
@@sarahscrichfield5303 I'm sure of that, but eggs are so easy, i really can't see any benefit to any of these products
@Sarah Scrichfield
you know what happens to all the male chicks in the egg industry?
They’re sexed as young as they can be and as they’re not a meat producing breed of chicken and not economically viable, they’re all dumped alive and fully conscious into a high speed grinder. But yeaaahh, yummy. Yeah.
@@LuckyStone888 I think part of the reason is that eggs are easy, but only after you pass a certain skill threshold. If you're new to cooking they can be pretty intimidating with their fragility and their slightly unintuitive cooking methods, so newbies are easily attracted to any sort of advantage they can get. Couple that with the arthritic demographic that actually needs help with eggs and the novelty seekers and you've got a recipe for success with even the worst egg gadget.
To anyone considering this gadget, I don't judge you, but I do think it's worth pointing out that for the cost of these gadgets you could buy a ton of eggs to practice cooking them. The beauty of eggs is that they're pretty cheap, and there are probably thousands of egg cooking tutorials on UA-cam. Food Wishes and J. Kenji Lopez-Alt are two of my favorite sources for egg tutorials, but there are plenty of other channels with solid technique videos.
@@tinderella2386 Sarah could get her eggs from backyard hens that are protected from predators and given a warm, clean coop to sleep in, which would be substantially better for them than letting them be devoured by wolves in the wild. You really can never know where a stranger gets their eggs, and I don't think it's fair to make the worst possible assumption about their source. I respect that you're passionate about your cause, but this is not the way to win people over.
I usually hard boil 20 at a time, using a machine a lot like the Perfect Egg. I can't imagine spinning 20 eggs with that device. Another device to avoid. You're providing a real service here James!
The membrane wasn't ruptured, it was permeated by the yolk(the yolk has a different thickness then the white). The same thing happens when you use a stocking or sock to spin the egg before boiling.
Hi James, just wanted to say hi from Czech republic! I am watching your videos with my boyfriend for like half a year now (we found you when we planned to buy a mini dishwasher) and we really love your reviews. Our favourite comfort content! Take care and have a lovely new year.
11:42 That's what she said.
This was an interesting item. I enjoy watching James's reactions more than the products. 😆
I’ve been watching your reviews for awhile now and I still enjoy them. Great job. 👍
When I was in middle school, I learned to do this with a long sleeved shirt. I always did it just until I heard the yolk pop, then hard boiled them (looked like a weird marble when done).
Showed my teenager a few years ago and he was amazed. lol
Thank you for the entertaining and helpful review! I was laughing so hard at the dry sarcasm after tearing up that one egg near the end! 🤣😂
I love your videos! I'm pretty sure I've binge watched every single one. Lol. I love it!
Your channel gives my so many laughs, I look forward to every one of your reviews 😂 you have saved me a lot of money😂😂😂👍🏻
Growing up a homemade toy was based on a similar idea. A length of cord is run through a good sized flat button. With the button in the middle, you twist the cord like you did the egg tool, then gently pull the ends of the cord so the button spins. You make that same pulsing of increased and decreased tension on the cord. It was actually fun, but we didn't have electronic toys back then. I think my grandparents introduced this toy to us. The hardest part was coming up with a good button. 😀
When peeling eggs that are hard to peel, use a wet teaspoon and peel it like a kiwi.
Works perfectly 9 out of 10 times.
Add a good amount of salt to the water you boil eggs in. Start with cold water, bring to a rapid boil. Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes. Run under cold water for a few minutes. Peel them when cool. You will have perfectly cooked easy to peel eggs everytime.
@@7531monkey 🤣🤣🤣🤣 good point! So if it works well for the 9 eggs, might as well not attempt the 10th egg. I love it!
@@7531monkey Nah, that's your snack or put on a tray for the kitchen staff to eat when it gets busy.
A tip:
I have chickens and those very fresh eggs do NOT like to peel. I tried different methods of cooking, different ways to peel, and finally settled on just boiling the eggs, then I use a knife and QUICKLY cut the entire egg in half (like a deviled egg, not like a poached egg.) Wet the knife and cut firmly. I take off the few bits of broken shell. Usually only one or two per egg, if any. Use a wet spoon and slide it between the egg and the shell. It pops out in just seconds.
They aren’t always perfect, but the result is FAR better than peeling off chunks of the egg white, and the process is much faster and cleaner than peeling by hand. It also uses almost no water, which is a bonus if you currently use running water or a bowl of water to help peel the eggs.
Happy New Year, people!
I miss the old kitchen background☹️
Happy New Year, James, Noah, Brandon and of course Bailey.
Have an egg-cellent new year in 2022.
I can't seem to get tired of your videos!
Honestly I love all the videos you do! I felt your pain with the eggs haha!
"I'M NOT HAVING ANY FUN HERE!!" Thank you James, love your reviews!
A lot of comments about just scrambling the egg in a bowl are missing the whole point of the device being used for boiling eggs... Makes me a little worried.. egg heads
It is a stupid and ineffective product that caters to the weak minded. There are other ways to achieve the desired result that are quicker and avoid the need for this ineffective, gimmicky product that is noting but a hassle and waste of time and money. You obviously do not cook...YOU make ME a little worried...EGG HEAD! But please...get one of these! Thanks for playing!
Wow, I love your videos! I did this a couple of years ago with a sock and two rubber bands. I got the same results. Not worth the cost of the scrambler and not worth the effort with scrambler or sock! LOL! I'm so glad you did this. Now I know I'm not crazy! Thanks!
seems like a gag gift, i wonder if they made a mold to shape the peeled eggs, and maybe also a special-made peeler for hard-boiled eggs, and if it all came together in one set for a fair price i'd see it being cool for like decorative foods, shaping them and peeling them easier so they're gold and smooth
also, i don't even like hardboiled eggs lol
Basically, someone took a gyroscope, said, "let's put an egg in it" and marketed it for $20.
Anyone ever make a spinner out of a loop of kite string and a big coat button? (You can scramble eggs with something called a "fork," or use a whisk for a fluffier egg).
Love the review!!! I think this product does as described just with a sub-100% success rate. I can see some people pre-spinning a couple eggs for easy breakfast, or when people don't feel like beating one just spinning one or two for easy prep
Thanks for the review. Thumbs up. I appreciate the effort you put in making these videos. I love scrambled eggs, and I wish this device would have worked out.
This reminds me of that repetitious phrase when doing those spring exercises, ‘We Must, we must, we must build up our bust’😆
Enjoyed your review once again!!
I am strangely compelled to catch your vids. Thank you for your window on the world of gadgets lol!
There once was a toy I had as a kid that operated the same way but it was outfitted to whistle as it spun. LOL
By the end you see him just trying to finish the video, valiant effort. Great video as always
Hi James! I recently broke my ankle in 3 places! I had surgery today! 1 plate and 3 screws! All I watch are your Freakin Reviews! Thank you for all of your awesome entertainment! You’re awesome! Not bad looking either!!!!
I think the method used in restaurants would help the peeling... so you throw it (directly from the hot water) into ice water. And let it cool for a minute.
Kenji López-Alt tested all those hacks or techniques. The only one that really made a difference was putting the eggs directly into boiling water instead of cold water that you later heat to a boil
@@jaungiga he tested it probably on fresh eggs where structure of the egg was... well like it should be. Ice water trick works on eggs that in one-two days would go bad. And these effs are hard to peel because of changes to structure of the egg. Here golden egg (peeling process) looks very similar so I expect ice water would work.
@@korinogaro We should try, I guess. Or maybe James should. If I remember correctly, Kenji tried both with new and old eggs but I'm not 100% sure. It makes sense though, the boiling water probably cooks the exterior layer rapidly, tightening up the proteins on the inside while the shell remains unchanged. That should give you some leverage when peeling the egg later. But I'm just speculating at this point
Always pour vinegar in your water before you boil your eggs, it makes the shells weaker and easier to peel
LOL!!! The way those eggs looked after peeling!!! haha
I feel like... I would rather watch an extra small bowl than store this thing. You're a good sport, my man!
** I must say after watching you do a egg for the first time. My instant thought was Ronco egg scrambler would be so much easier and faster . So I agree with you when you made that statement about Ronco .
I continue to love your channel, James. This product seems ridiculous. If I want really good scrambled eggs I use an old-school 1950's style hand cranked egg beater😊 The reason the eggs do not peel easily is because the cell membrane that surrounded the albumen was destroyed in the spinning/mixing process. Keep up the fun work.👍
Why is it so entertaining to watch this guy review EGG gadgets 😂
"If this is golden, I'll take some other form of currency" LOL best line
Thanks for taking one for the team, James!
Never thought of Egg Cookery to be challenging. What a lot of, work for a food that is already perfect. You, Sir, are a patient man.
“Let’s crack it open.”
Pun intended? 🤣😎👍
I have the Cuisinart version of the "perfect egg maker," and I have never had such great results with hard-boiled eggs. I do pierce the "big" end of each egg first. However, when the timer goes off, I always immediately plunge the eggs into ice water for several minutes, and then roll and peel them as soon as they are cool enough to handle. They peel perfectly every time. However, I have never tried it with "spun" eggs like these.
That’s one of the funniest videos you’ve done 🤣
I’ve never been this early to any video ever. Love your content!
This review: Pure gold.
A solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist.
Still fun to watch the video.
I always steam my eggs for 15 mins and they always peel easy regardless of new or old eggs. Its faster to get a few inches of water to a boil as well. I will never boil eggs again. Always use an ice bath after theyre done and peeling under running water helps.
Ive seen this done with a long sleeve shirt instead of that device.
Love the shirt! Maui no ka oi!
I hope you and the family had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year coming up. As soon as you started this, I knew it would be terrible to peel. The yoke is sticky/thick and now it is part of the outside, not a good combination.
i needed a freakin review today even though its not Saturday ill take any i can get
I've used a sock to spin it around just like you're doing there and it works like a charm. Plus...it's free.
🤣 I agree with you, it reminds me of the ''Whizzer'' toy too.
An easy peeling technique is to tap egg against the counter like you did, then roll egg between your two hands while putting a little pressure on egg. Peel usually comes right off. Maybe that will make it easier
Tap the egg from fatter side and next put it in the bowl of water. Water will penetrate the shell and it will be easier to peel.
I think something like this would be great for a kid who wants to help out in the kitchen when making scrambled eggs. They might get bored of it within a day but seems to be the best use for this lol
That's basically what its marketed too. Its a cheap party trick to have guests say "woah cool howd you do it"..
The amount of people commenting on just cracking the egg in a bowl or doing regular boiled eggs are failing to see what this was intended for
I'll stick to my little Eggletts but I appreciate all your effort James, atta boy!
I’ve eaten breakfast, washed the dishes, and gone to work by the time you’re done spinning..😂😂😂
James here’s a video idea: review totally normal stuff that people use but actually follow the instructions. Like car air fresheners and q-tips and random stuff that nobody uses according to the instructions.
Thank you for introducing us to the newest resident of the Boneyard.
James,I,love you videos. I do,love gadgets but I can find so many other uses for $20. Yep, I’ll stick with a fork for in an egg. Older eggs do peel much better than brand new eggs - took me years to learn that. Thanks for all your reviews!!!
I had a toy like that as a kid, only instead of an egg holder in the middle there was some kind of disc that hummed pleasantly when you spun it.
it works , I could see it for camping. no whisk no bowl otherwise passs.
In regards to the guts of the egg you found on the shell. I think that the insides of the egg have leached through the microscopic pores in the membrane and the shell when being spun around in that centrifuge contraption.
Thank you for this video. Yup….too much work for me. 😁🤙🏼🤙🏼
Towards the end I just kept hearing Charles Barkley " that's just terrable" 😄
The eggs won't peel correctly because the makeup of the egg was changed. Great review, you're so fun to watch!
You have a lot of patience.. I would’ve it at the wall lmao
James knew it was arm day, so he decided to review this product ;-)
James. I just got a Yonanas machine for Christmas and I really like it. I would like to see you review a yonanas machine. Thanks.
This thing was a toy when I was a kid. Funny to see someone add a compartment in the middle to hold an egg.
Cool. Part of what makes scrambled eggs fluffy is folding the air in.
I recently got the Nostalgia brand MyMini egg cooker, which looks about identical to the Perfect Egg Maker. I’ve only used it once, it it seemed to have worked perfectly.
We used to do this with a shirt sleeve and 2 rubber bands lmao
Just scramble your eggs and put them into an old fashioned on the stove multi egg poacher that you sprayed with oil or buttered. You can call the resulting cookee eggs golden sun eggs. Children will like them, especially if you use ketchup or bits of veggies to add a smiley face. They look pretty with toast point sun rays. Walla.. brilliant idea! Lol
1:30 Hey, my grandmother made us a toy that functions similarly! It's just a single button and some thread, but still.
im really''REALLY glad u did this.way better than me.im passing on this.
Could you please do an extensive Power Bank video? So many to choose from.
Great review. I recall when I used the Rollie vertical egg grill that they say not to scramble it, or your egg "rollie" won't come out... (and it doesn't) maybe scrambled eggs just have different cohesive properties? I have to wonder though, I hard boil eggs in a pressure cooker. While this is similar to your steam method, I still find that the shells typically come right off, so I wonder if it would work for the "golden eggs"?
What the heck!? Thanks for the review!
I really wanted this to work when I tried it a few years ago. 😂
"I'm hungry, let me go get my flashlight to prepare some eggs"
Why would anyone want an egg scrambled and cooked in the shell? I can see scrambling it in the shell, then cracking it and cooking it in a pan. I’ll stick to a bowl with a whisk or a fork. Wow! Look at the money I just saved! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, James!
I'm just wondering if you just shook it in your bare hand for long enough if you could scramble it in the shell? Either way I think I'll stick to the good ol bowl and fork method lol
I was wondering the very same thing. I will try it the next time I make scrambled eggs.
@@jonnaosborne1832 yeah just watched a real cringy video on another channel, but it did seem to work by just using your hands lol. I don't suggest looking for that vid, just try for yourself 😜
I haven't finished the video yet, but I REALLY want this to work! For Easter eggs not to be so gross! I once sacrificed the long sleeve of a shirt to do the same thing, it didn't work.
I used to play with a toy like that when I was a kid. My dad made them for us out of a loop of wool and a large button.
Another convenience product that solves a problem that does not exist. Fun review though.
Thanks!
Ive used this thing. Pretty much the same results but I had better looking eggs after letting them sit in ice water for 20 minutes.
Hey.. I bought that a few years ago cuz I got obsessed with the idea... took some practice, but consistency was great... oh yea and a great workout lol... and I prefer air fryer for all boiled eggs... 250 for 16 minutes makes perfect hard boil...
I could see using this as a novelty when we're making breakfast outside while camping. All the kids could take turns spinning the eggs for scrambled eggs breakfast.
You need to give the eggs a quick crack then drop them straight into a bowl of super cold ice water after they’re done boiling… makes them WAY easier to peel!
Putting a flashlight to an egg is actually called "Candeling" and it's how you determine the quality of an egg and look for blood spots before cracking. You can also check the rough age & freshness by the size of the air pocket at one end of the egg. The smaller the air pocket the fresher the egg, it will get bigger as it gets older in your fridge. Learned all this in FFA and going to State competitions twice for poultry judging.
That’s cool!
