Like the first gen versa, the kicks is holding its value very well. 2018 models are selling used for almost the same price as the 2020 models. It's almost unprecedented that Nissan built 2 economy cars that hold their value like that.
I have the 2019! I love it, I got it brand new for 16k and its great! I wish it would have been a honda fit since my first car was a Honda civic but i couldn't afford a 20k car.

As a small, raised CUV-like vehicle, the Kicks has a niche to fill and that is the inexpensive vehicle with good gas mileage, raised drive height and good cargo capacity . . . and it sells about 50000 a year. - I believe a 24,000 dollar AWD drive trim would seriously raise their sales numbers . . . but, I suppose that Nissan thinks that the Rogue Sport covers that niche.
It has the JATCO cvt so no matter how nice it is it won’t be cheaper to keep when you have to repair or replace the cvt. Even if you get 5K off MSRP you may have to spend the same to fix the cvt when it breaks.
@@afcgeo882 lmao It doesn't but I guess they're frustrated about Nissan not bringing the hybrid version over especially when everyone hate their particular CVT.
It’s a hatchback on stilts, Nissan say it’s a compact CUV but if you look at the numbers it’s similar dimensions to a Impresa hatch, and the civic hatch has slightly larger interior room

I am currently on my 3rd nissan versa hatchback SL model....looking to remain with nissan but wanted a little more cargo room....since the sentra is not in a hatchback...I have been strongly considering the nissan kick....I am going to go with a SR model.....with premium ...love the bose driver seat speaker....I can live with the so so HP...I am mainly a city commuter...but this will do for the occasional longer road trip with room for a couple more passengers...my price point also met with Nissan kicks SR
Would like to see this redone for the 2021 Kicks. Its a popular segment, and the vehicle has gotten significant updates to everything save for the crappy powertrain.
In the end I bought a 2020 Kia Soul. I test drove a Seltos and the Niro. Neither had the room that the Soul does. I rented a 2019 Soul to go to the Kia dealership. (I live on a island and have to ferry to the mainland) and the comparison was huge. The 2020 Soul has so much more pickup. Additionally, many of these Crossovers have these small rear windows. It's to give them a sleeker look but it reduces visibility a lot. Only the Forester (the leased car I turned in) had similar visibility to the KIA Soul.
CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT, CVT Nissan we love the new designs. But your Jatco CVT's are UNRELIABLE!!! Team up with Toyota or Subaru to get a decent, reliable CVT!!!!!
George L Toyota’s CVT is reliable. They had an issue ECU (not part of the CVT) that was recalled because the improper programming could have caused damage to many of the CVTs if not fixed in time. They also had a manufacturing defect in the first 4,000 2019 Corolla hatchbacks built. Both issues were addressed. Worse issues than this have happened to many other vehicle’s traditional automatic transmissions.
webcomment Toyota has only had the Aisin CVT on sale for 3 years. The 3,600 car recall last year was for a faulty torque converter that required a replacement. The year before that it was a different problem. So lets see... 2 out of 3 years they’ve had serious issues. What’s your definition of “reliable”?
George L The same transmission was used reliably in Japan for many years. They just made minor changes for US market tastes including using a different ECU or ECU programming. It’s not a new, unproven transmission that’s only been used for 3 years. They also had a manufacturing defect in the first month of production of Corolla hatchbacks. It was then corrected and the problem no longer exists. They don’t continue producing vehicles with the same reliability issue lasting long term the way Nissan has with their Jacto transmissions.
webcomment ALL transmissions are flawed until that flaw was corrected. That’s not a standard for reliability. The standard is how often they have flaws and how costly those fixes are. One transmission on a model may perform great, but put it on a different car and it becomes shit. Why? It has different forces applied onto it and has engineering differences for it to fit the other car, creating possible faults. For example, the transmission we’re talking about, before being applied to the Corolla/Auris was used only on the smaller Vitz/Yaris/Echo line. Then Toyota adapted it to the Auris/Corolla by modification, which caused the issues.

@RichardFavreau so why does he have so many reviews on Mercedes and BMW and Audi? Stop trying to spread failed rumors. The compass is not expensive, and it’s not unreliable. A corolla is boring and unreliable.
Nathaniel Rudolph Why? Did Chrysler stop making the compass? I have one rule when searching for a new car. No Chrysler products. @@trent7080 While it is not known how reliable or unreliable the Kicks is, it is understandable that someone would assume Nissans are not so reliable. They have had CVT issues with their early Jatco-supplied models. However, I don't think those issues are as prevalent anymore. My wife has had her 2015 Versa Note since new (well, technically, not brand-new but only 3,000 miles on the odometer) and now has 66,000 miles. It hasn't had a single drivetrain-related issue other than the serpentine belt cracking at 50,000 miles which is not unheard of. It's actually never had any issues at all.
@@trent7080 Plenty say it. CR, brand track records, costumer reviews. Hyundai/Kia have had their fair share of issues with their 2011-2013 models with that shit Theta but other than that, their track record from the last 15-20 years is stellar and far better than Nissan's. Plus, unlike Nissan, even if you do have issues with your Hyundai's engine or trans late in it's life, you're covered with a far longer warranty. It's pathetic Nissan only offers a 5 year, 60,000 mi powertrain warranty since they're hard to trust anyway.
Really can't get past the 1.6NA, and wish Nissan would give us something with a little more oomph. They have some turbo 3 cylinders that get used overseas that would be a good fit here.
Why would anyone consider buying a Nissan product ? They have notorious bad reliability as they age and their CVT transmissions have a very poor record of failing prematurely. Also their sales in the US are tanking and there are rumors they might pull out of the US market. They are the Chrysler of the Japanese auto makers. I know 3 people who bought them and never again - 2 engines and 2 CVT transmissions later - they said never again. You must be intoxicated by the smell of the new plastics gassing off.
Low cost, good fuel economy, well equipped and excellent reliability as long as you have the manual. But American's don't buy manuals so that's why Nissan does so bad over there.
Nissan is focusing more attention on the US market according to their last two livestreams, so how are there rumors that they would leave the US market? You are not telling the truth about anything and lack credibility.
A Rogue often parks next to my Kicks and the Kicks is just slightly smaller (barely). I see it as an SUV. Plus, the cargo area of the Kicks holds more cargo than most small SUVs. It has an enormous amount of space.

I don’t really care about cars and I like how the roof is black. And the name rhymes with Dicks. I like dicks” “I got a divorce and the wife took my Bimmer. With all the alimony coming up this is the safest option”

(Oh and I don’t have an MBA but I do have a bachelors degree in business from Appalachian State University, and 30+ years of experience.)
The first gen Miata also put speakers in the headrest.
Chris Eaton As did Pontiac Fiero in the 1980s.
So it's a Cuisinart with wheels?
Wooow, I had my kicks for about a week now & didn’t know it had sports mode 😭
😂modern day pinto 😂
Speaking of the compass Alex, when’s that review coming out?
He already has a review on it.
Aden Weber hes said he’s got a more personal one coming. I believe first one was a media drive, or he’s testing a different model.
Even a Chrysler sales person has admitted to me, and I quote, “Yeah... you could drive a Toyota or Honda 500,000 km and a Chrysler could never do that, but really, why would you want to own the same car that long?”
M H do you not see these mini grand Cherokees driving around ? That’s the new compass ! No Chrysler products ? Oh that’s your loss. My dads van has almost 200,000 and so does my chrysler 200. That’s your loss. And his right ? Why do you want to drive 1 car for 20 years anyway. Stuff improves and gets better, buy a new car.
I think for around $2500 this is worth upgrading from S to SR Trim. almost $19K base S or $21,500 for SR No brainer.
gene978 Nissan always has rebates. You can’t get the SR under 20k
Looks great , but that CVT transmission is going to turn many customers away !!!
Not sure that’s entirely true, most folks don’t know what a CVT is and don’t care.
The base FWD Kia Seltos or Soul would offer more value, roominess, reliability and warranty.
Can you send me a link to the information where it specifically says the KIA seltos and KIA Soul are more reliable than the Nissan Kicks?
@@trent7080 Consumer Reports would be a place to start.
I get at least 42 mpg on the expressway, sometimes 43. Who needs oomph.
@@Jan96106 Guess you don't get on the LIE in NY. I need oomph.
How do you usually distinguish between a hatch and a CUV?
Randy Shackleford marketing.
😆☝ so true even tho essentially one is because of the car part at the tail-end and one cuz of the shape/size all around. Buut...marketing smh.
Both are purely marketing terms. Wagons have hatches too.
Wagons, Audi's "sportbacks" Stinger
A Rogue often parks next to my Kicks and the Kicks is just slightly smaller (barely). I see it as an SUV. Plus, the cargo area of the Kicks holds more cargo than most small SUVs. It has an enormous amount of space.
HRV vs Kicks ?
Nobody really wants this car, this is a car that people “end up” with. Like:
“Enterprise put me in one of these”
“I wanted the Civic Si, but my parents think that car is too powerful as a first car”
“I couldn’t afford anything else and I wanted a new car”
“Oh why I bought this? I don’t really care about cars and I like how the roof is black. And the name rhymes with Dicks. I like dicks”
“I got a divorce and the wife took my Bimmer. With all the alimony coming up this is the safest option”
😂😆😆😂🤣😆🤣😂😆😂😂 most of this is truuuuu ... Aww shit 😂🤣😆😂
For all those situations there are still better options. Impreza, Soul, Kona, Corolla hatch, etc.
@@afcgeo882 if your Credit aint good your gonna find it hard to get in any of these cars u listed lol
George L when you credit is 500 the only cars you can get approved for: Nissan Kicks, Nissan Rogue Sport, Nissan Versa, Dodge Journey, and Jeep Renegade.
@@LouAntonioGiordano add kia rio Hyundai accent /venue
Just here for that BOX
No adaptive cruise control on any Nissan???
One BIG thing wrong with this car. What the hell is the deal with portable CD players with bluetooth that cost over $200? I want a portable, affordable CD player to fit into this model. You car manufacturers that eliminated the CD players? YOU SUCK!!!!! Bring back the feature that works for so many of us.
I like the Juke though. Wish they continued that instead of this.
You don't have a Kia Stonic review!!
In the luxury class the Lexus UX is better.
If my money is on the line, I would go for Honda HRV. It has AWD, LKAS and ACC. It a lot roomy as well.
if your money were REALLY on the line you might as well go for the Honda CR-V. HR-V is already to big and expensive for this class and too close in size as the CR-V and SAME price range as the CR-V.
It needs the Juke's turbo motor
"Here we have a video thats a little shorter than normal..."
25:39
I rather the 2020 Juke to come to North America; The NEW JUKE IS SEXY;
I guess we have a lot of new car salesmen in the comments because resale ? On a 120,000 luxury car ? I didn’t know buyers of these cars BUY them for years and years then resale them.... I think it’s more of a lease thing guys. But of course , y’all find anything negative to say. 🤪
Nathaniel Rudolph Very few people buy $100,000+ cars. They lease them,
Well what about Honda Fit? Cheaper and full safety features + dynamic cruise control?
True, but it's going to be discontinued soon. :-(
This is a car for people who only see them as an appliance. No one would loves cars or driving would be caught dead in this. 122hp? Yeah, that's gonna be a hard no for me.
That's why people test drive vehicles before buying them...
On thing that is always revealing about these videos: They say the thing gets average 34MPG! Then he shows the dash computer and it says average 27MPG.
Richard Johnston You have to remember that he spends a lot of time idling and then multiple 0-60 runs where he drives very hard
I own a Kicks and I get 42-43 MPG on the expressway.
Cars lose lots of mpg when they idle, and that’s something reviewers commonly do when they’re reviewing the car
Not to mention the 0-60 runs where they drive it very hard
I'm just here for the CVT trolls...smh
I work at a Nissan dealership and my God what happened Nissan 😔
I’d prefer a honda hrv/vezel anytime
Yikes.. Loud and rough riding
What is appealing about this vs a compact car? The only thing I can come up with is the illusion of safety.
More interior space. Headroom, more vertical seating position and cargo space are all an advantage here. Nothing to do with safety at all.
@@afcgeo882 Do people like a vertical seating position? I grew up driving 90s sports coupes and I've always thought the upright seating was more of a compromise than a feature. That's just me I guess. Something like a Prius matches about every other stat you mentioned.
Brad Strawn Yes, many people do. It’s better for your back and blood flow. It also helps the sight lines and allows for more lateral leg room.
Brad Strawn Priuses are very popular, despite their horrific driving dynamics and styling for exactly those reasons, reliability and fuel economy.
Steven L. That’s a huge (pun intended) assumption. People who want the ease of getting in/out of CUVs are the elderly, not the obese and you have ZERO supporting evidence for any of what you’ve said. Next time, use the words, “I think” to preface your opinion.
GREAT NISSAN.
122 horsepower for that thing. My Kia Soul 2013 gets 164 horsepower and my Subaru Forester 2020 gets 182 horsepower. Yeah it is a perfect car for new drivers. This car just looks ugly in my opinion.
Well it fills a need for a lot of folks
Great Nissan.
TheKicks comes with e-power, therefore the engine only acts as a generator and is not connected to the wheels
It needs the juke's motor
Why do all these reviewers have such a boner for AWD? Do they not understand that target consumer for this vehicles doesn't give a crap about AWD?
Future endless Money Pit
Go Scotty!
Nissan? Doubt it.
Hyundai Kona is better with more Horse Power
122hp is a joke these days
I'm not buying any Nissan product after they merged with Renault and put in defective cvt's.
All you "car enthusiasts" here need to realize this vehicle was engineered for the South American market. NNA basically brought this to the U.S. to fill the need of our fascination with Crossovers. 😂😂
Seems like a paid review. Cannot trust this guy anymore!
