  • Hi there! In this video, I will share some tips and things to consider while packing for Japan during cherry blossom season.
    I booked my trip for April 2023, and there are still five months till our departure. It's always early enough to consider what you may want to pack! Especially if you're visiting another county. I'll be traveling with three family members, so I've been researching an ideal way to travel comfortably while in Japan. I will be making another video of essentials items you might want to consider bringing to have a comfortable flight & stay. That video will be closer to the date of departure, so stay tuned.
    Subscribe to follow along with things I'll be sharing while preparing for Japan next year :)

      Number one tip: leave heavy make up and perfume at home. Both those things mark everybody out as foreigners, even from other Far East Asian countries. You can spot the foreigner by how they do their make up and how strong their fragrance is, ha! Hope you had an amazing trip.

    I'm going for four months (for work) --from end of March to the end of July, so I'm afraid I'll be dealing with a lot of rain and heat in June and July. I am "trying" to pack light...trying! But I used to live in Japan, and I KNOW for a fact that nothing will fit me. I also have to dress professionally.
    You made some great points. I guess I'd just add that there are plenty of laundromats in Japan--coin laundry, so in a pinch you might be able to wash your clothes there, and laundromats do have dryers. When I lived in Japan, we used to wash our clothes at home and drive everything to the coin laundry (in the winter!) to toss into the dryer--especially sheets and towels.

      There is a lot of shopping, but it's true, it depends on what you're looking for style-wise. Professional clothes are harder to find since the largest size is an American size 4-6 over there (from what I saw). I heard shoes are even harder to find in larger sizes. Good tips about the laundromats for dryer use since April will have some rain! Have fun visiting this summer! Yes, pack as light as you can, the heat is no joke during June/July :)

      @heyyyitsdonna 😁 in my case it demands a little more work since the whole travel to Japan will take me around 26h 😵‍💫( check in hours included), a period of adaptation included before going for the planned activities with the language school ... or jetlag hell would be a thrill for a 9 hours difference ( Portugal and Japan)

Our flight is 11hrs, not including getting to the airport early. Then we have to take a 45 min train ride after the landing in Osaka. My jetlag is pretty decent; just a day to adjust is all I need. I do recommend taking melatonin to help on the flight to get a head start on the jetlag!💕

      Early March will still be chilly, between the mid-40s to high 50s. I recommend bringing a coat to layer over sweaters and long sleeves. It may be cold outside but consider that when you go inside (i.e., mall, restaurant, or museum), they may have the heater blasting, and it gets HOT. lol Still pack light pieces that are easy to pack away in a bag or hold onto when you're on the go. I hope you have a fun trip!! 💕

    • @heyyyitsdonna
      @heyyyitsdonna  Рік тому

      April can be unpredictable. It's definitely colder in early April, but it warms up a bit toward the end. That's why layers are so important, even though it may be cold outside, the venues, malls, and underground shopping is so hot because they blast the heater on. I was always putting on/removing layers constantly. Yes, bring a packable rain jacket in April, you'll most likely run into at least 2-3 days of rain.

    April 2024... Time to spend another month in the greatest country on earth 🕵️
    Last time I went I spent a month split between Osaka, Tokyo, Hakuba and Niseko
    Osaka and Hakuba were the highlights... Tokyo was a bit of a let down but I did make the mistake of staying in Shinjuku. I should of done more research before hand... I don't like seedy night club areas.
    This time I plan to stay in Osaka with Day Trips to Kobe, Nara & Kyoto (maybe day trip to Hiroshima)... Some nights spent in Tokyo... Stay in Matsumoto with Day Trips to Shoijiri & Narai-juku... Yokohama and Two nights in Hakone...
    There are too many places I want to see and I'm trying to fit things in while also giving myself time in each place to relax and enjoy 😅 even now I've been really considering adding in Chichibu 🙈

    • @heyyyitsdonna
      @heyyyitsdonna  Рік тому +2

      Your trip sounds amazing! I always tell people that more than two weeks is needed for Japan. I love just waking up and spending the day relaxing and taking in everything. I try not to book myself but its hard when you're traveling with friends/family, and they want to do tourist things lol its still enjoyable, though, watching them experience the city you love.
      Tokyo can be a hit or miss depending on what you're looking for. I make that my last stop since I shop for gifts/souviners before I fly out. I agree with you that the seedy night scene does not seem appealing at all. I also add Kanazawa on your list if you're near the area, it's beautiful.
      Try to squeeze only a few places all in one visit. You want to take everything in and enjoy the moment sometimes :)

Even though the temperature may cool down, the venues like a mall, restaurants and underground train station get sooooo HOT! Hiii!! No, I wouldn't suggest packing summer clothes. Japan in April can be tricky because you'll have some warm days where it's low 70s, and then morning can be low 50s. I suggest packing layers and a light jacket or cardigan that can be easily packed into your bag if needed. The jackets I packed are light and foldable. You don't need to pack a coat but do consider that there will be some rain in April, so maybe a rain jacket as well. Hope this helps, and happy travels 💕

      Hi! I'm excited about you're trip! Osaka and Kyoto is pretty close (15 minutes on the shinkansen). You can get a lcoca card since it's a prepaid card to use for public transportation. I haven't used that before, but I've used PASMO and SUICA in the past and found them easy to use for trains and buses. I wouldn't suggest getting a pass since you'll be touring around just Kyoto. The JR pass is worth it if you are traveling through multiple cities. You'll be fine with a prepaid card. Check if you can download the card to your wallet on your phone so you can quickly load it and use it when you travel. ☺

      They're way more rainy days, and the average temperature ranges from 51-68F during the day to 39-55F at night. I suggest packing a rain jacket and layers!

      I'm going this year, used to live in Japan. I'd say yes, May is about the same. It's getting warmer but the rainy season still won't start until June. The intense heat and humidity kick in after the rainy season ends.

      Early May will warm up a bit in the high 60-70s, and the end of May will be more consistently in the high 70s since you're going to head into the summer months. Mays is my favorite month to visit! :)
