Great video, TRP. Many thanks. It was a fantastic run by Valby. Let's hope she continues running once she finishes College and faces Open Grade competition. Cheers
I freakin' love "I'm not just going to break the record, I'm going to squash it!" attitude! There's been lots of buzz with Katelyn Tuohy and so I haven't seen much of Parker Valby until earlier this year. The only thing that made me doubt her is that slightly funky running style. Katelyn is the epitome of running form and mechanics. But the more I see Parker run, the more I see that strong inner-determination. And that's what determines 1 and 2nd place. Well done Parker. Well done.
there is no such thing as a "best style" to running. It's all about the stop watch. Look at Kelsey Chiemel. Watch her run from the front. Total noob. Look at her times. National runner. It's true on all other events too. The Fosbury wasn't a "thing" until it was. It's a technique, someone might come up with a new technique that beats it. Katelyn's style is a killer, works for her very well. Forcing an athelete into a specific style holds them back. I'm not saying running mechanics don't matter. I'm saying Valby doesn't have a slightly funky style. She' just "looks" different than Katelyn. Same result, so what "good" is Katelyn's style?
This year she was injury free, healed up and I think just got tired of coming in second to Katelyn. I think they switched up her training to get in more actual running distance too.
@@patrickmckeegan5345 The injury part is very true. You just got to stop and heal. Pushing it just makes it last longer and make it potentially worse. It's hard to slow-down and more so to completely stop. Sometimes, you just go to. She changed coaches. Which was a big deal for her. I don't think she's running more. On the contrary, I think she's doing more cross-fitness. Which is what she wants. And it works for her. Some people may need more miles. She looks to have found her balance. I think Valby is going to get even stronger and tougher. And that's a good thing. For even her competitors.
Glad I saw this live, this is the season for Parker Valby for sure, I knew she would break 15 but I thought it would be 14:58 high but dang 14:56 is crazy !!!

I've personally been trying it (watched Elliot Gilles sing its praise), and Parker's shocking revelation of her training left running press kinda stunned. She said ppl wouldn't understand... well: we know results! Congrats!
Parker, like Katelyn Tuohy, is just so unbelievably talented and committed, and so likeable and articulate. As a track and field fan, it is a joy to follow their careers. But it was beyond amazing what Valby did in this race, and all the more so when you consider that she did not even stop running at the finish. She just kept running another 20 meters to her teammate and coach and started jumping up and down in their embrace. I mean, it looked like Parker did not even take herself to her limit in this race, even though she obliterated the indoor record and bested the outdoor record by 7 seconds.

It's possible but in my opinion unlikely. The teams for track and field are named following a kind of funky formula: half from athletes who meet the World Athletics Council qualifying standards and half based on world ranking. The qualifying standards are 14:52 for the 5000 and 4:02.50 (4:20.90 mile) for the 1500. I don't know if the times have to be run at the Olympic trials or just within a certain period before the trials. Parker and every other collegian is pretty much out of range of the qualifying standards and likewise none of them have a competitive world ranking, because most don't compete in events that earn world points. Among the top pros, in July at the Worlds qualifier Cranny ran 14:52.66, Monson 14:55.10 and Rogers 14:55.39. None of those times meet the standard, although I believe all of them have run faster. The only collegian ever to have run faster than the 1500 standard is Jenny Simpson, who ran 3:59.9 in 2009. Addy Wiley ran a 4:03 back in the spring and I think there's a chance she will make the team for the 1500. Tuohy has said many times she wants to make the team but that doesn't look very likely either. Note that the qualifying standards for 2024 are much harder than for 2020, because, supposedly the IOC wants to make the Olympics more like the Worlds.

Yeah frickin right!?
Matt. You obviously have no understanding of Women's athletics. This is only College level. Yes, it was a fantastic run by Valby but Open Grade, aged 20 and over (which is what she should be competing in) is next level up. The WR for 5000m (outdoor) is currently 14:00.2 Yes, 56 seconds faster. There are literally dozens, maybe even hundreds, of women in the world competing in middle distance Track world wide that are faster than this. This is only College level athletics!
@@johnwilson5743 Alrighty I don't know what I am talking about - Lets take a deep dive all the same. If this was 1984, this would be the new world record right now, regardless that it was done inside and of any age group. Back then there was no testing and training really has not changed that much. Tracks have become a little faster and so have the shoes. In the 70s you had Blood doping in the 80s Females thought Hormones and Steroids were the answer. 90s EPO came along and now a days you have labs to take care of anything you are lacking, and of course cover/mask it up. Only 49 Women this year have run under 15 Minutes in the 5000m. (most of them "Cough Cough" from countries that dont test them, and who have them go to the doctor and have them on the hot sauce early) I really dont think you understand quite how fast that is!? Let alone a Female doing it. The WR is 14 Mins but that is a non sense WR and everyone knows it. Tsegay coach has ever been caught with super sauce in his bags. You have to remember the 5k is 95% Aerobic. It takes a while to build you endurance up to running that level she is. Either she was lying about the low mileage she was running and always has been or she is getting a LOT of pharmaceutical help. Look at Valby's Progression last 3 years? Not much improvement from 2020 to 2021 - THEN Massive jump from 2021 to 2022 due to being older I suppose but still giant. Then not much from 2022 to beginning of 2023 Then last half of this year BOOM! giant improvement again. Look I know must these girls at the top (EVEN in college level) are taking something, but she did not need to go nuclear and clean out the Mexican pharmacy and now be so far ahead of everyone its not even competitive. The rest of the girls are doing their best and are trying hard and are very talented so you have to ask your self this question which I always think is best. Lets say Valby is clean? What do you think she would run if she wasnt? 14m20s ish maybe? That would then put her in the top 9 of all time in all women in all history in all tracks and surfaces!!! All I am saying I have nothing against what she is doing most athletes at the top do. She just went over the top with it that's all, and now she is winning by silly amounts.
I have been following Katelyn Tuohy ever since she set unbelievable records in the 5k on the track as a freshman in high school. I'm a huge fan of her, and honestly it stings a little that Parker Valby has now seemingly eclipsed her. That said, I have to give credit where credit is due, and Parker Valby definitely deserves all sorts of praise for her hard work, natural talent and absolutely GUTSY running style. Congrats to her, and may she continue to achieve success! I hope my girl Katelyn rises to the challenge and remains competitive with Valby as the indoor season kicks off.
Parker has beaten KT in a couple races. Let's see what she does this winter and spring. If she sets new indoor 1500, mile and 3000 records and a new outdoor 5000 record and wins NCAA individual champs in the 3000 and 5000 (she is the reigning outdoor 5000 champ) she will have equaled Tuohy's achievement in 2023. My worry is that Parker is going to reinjure herself trying.
I hate to say it, but I called this in an earlier video. You can look it up if you like. But I said if she went sub 15, she could break 14:59 in the 5k. I was right. It really doesn’t get much better than this. Thank you.
Parker Valby’s leap of faith over the past year is truly inspiring. The personal doubts that could have troubled her inner soul , over the injuries she suffered in the past year, would have interfered with most top athletes from continuing to reach peak performance. Her amazing will and desire to win makes me feel that she’s touched by god’s love. To be humbled by god’s love is to feel it to be other worldly. Once love is known, it’s to be shared with the world.
She needs high attitude training to increase her oxygen potential and stamina like the kenyans proper resting and massages for injury avoidance and the she will be unstopoable in the ncaa at her age and experience level And keep that coach dont overrun or overtrain. Increase 409 800 and 1500 mile speed for a late kick. .which she lacks.
I thought she was gonna do some remarkable things lasts season but she unfortunately had injuries to deal with and limited training. Hope she can keep her health and continue to improve.
@henrihelvetica5835 There are quite a few who have PRs that are faster than what Parker just ran. Karissa Schweizer, Elise Cranny, and Alicia Monson (North American record holder!) would be a few to look at. But there are plenty of others. In fact, chances are, Parkers time of 14:56 probably wouldn't get her close to making the team. This winter is going to be really, really important for her training and progression to try and qualify next year.
You do over glorify college level runners to the point like they are setting world records or something. This happens all the time for the past 50 years. College level runners do well set records. But when it comes to international competition it’s a disaster.
This reminds me of “Ben Johnson “ of Canada 🇨🇦 in the 100 meter run when asked why he doped up knowing that he was going to get caught ? ? ? His reply was….. I just wanted to beat Carl Lewis ! ! ! This could be way off the mark, but it’s a little strange to me the tremendous improvement that Ms Parker has made since last year’s performance ………. I just don’t buy it. 🤔

@@overcomer1222 T y…… to me, her body looks the same as last year ( fragile ), but where she was weakening towards the end of all the races and getting caught by the likes of Toghy , now she is super woman , running faster than anyone before her. Not just 5 or 10 % faster, but 35 percent faster than her competition……. All this accomplished in less nine months. I’ve ran competitively for many years both in school and as adult in road races, and no one who I have beat in a race, has ever been able to come back and blow me out off the water ever, no matter what they tried. That’s why I don’t believe the tremendous improvements , both physical and mental that Ms Parker appears to have accomplished. Sorry if I offend anybody. 🧐
@addy2484 I don't have anything against katelyn, but her cronies are lame. Like, it's creepy how much they will denigrate other athletes thinking that it makes KT look better.
@@samanderson7745 i just don’t get how people continuously hype katelyn up saying she’s better than parker even when she was beat by a healthy amount both times they met this season. katelyn was arguably the best girls hs distance runner of all time and her dominance in the sport was obvious but clearly valby is more fit right now; people just don’t want to admit it.
@@addy2484It is just some people who can’t handle the truth. Haven’t you seen the lame excuses and lies told for every one of those losses. Now the only thing they have left is to claim Valby must be doping to be so fast.
@@addy2484 Again, I don't have anything against Katelyn, at all. She's a great talent and as you said, really pushed HS girls CC. She's been good in college as well and has won plenty of races at that level too. But this last year hasn't been the best for her. Hopefully she's just hit a plateau and not her ceiling. But, yes, Parker has been fantastic this year and has positioned herself with that sub 15 to have an opportunity at making the Olympic team, which has to be an incredible feeling! I'm not loyal to one athlete over the other, I just want good, consistent, high level racing from any and all American athletes!
If you mean where was she during the race, I believe she was on the rail at the finish for a long time and then down in the infield during the actual race. She was there: unmistakable signature pony tail, red hoodie, black yoga pants and Adidas shoes. The finish line camera kept panning past her. I believe in one of the post race interviews Parker repeated something she said she had just told Katelyn.
She beat the indoor record, Indoors records are usually faster than outdoors, i don't see with that time how can she make an olympic team, look at the outdoors records from monson, and any of the other nations. Your comments are just over hyping. Good , she won, now let's be realistic , neither her nor Tuohy are yet ready for any olympic team. Good Perf, let's wait in 4 years what she is capable of, but now she is just a great collegian runner, like Tuohy.
I agree. I think for sure Katelyn's year is 2028 and probably Parker too. I think Addy Wiley is the only collegian with a chance to make the team at 1500 and above. I don't know about the sprinters.

Damn! Another one of your blonde crushes breaks a massive record!
she looked like she had more to run
Thank you.
Nostradamus....if she went sub 15....obviously she could dip under 14:59....
I want my son to marry Valby. He's a D1 XC runner and I want them to have a super baby runner.
Tuohy who????
Gaddamn ain’t this the same girl who only ran twice a week? 😂 that’s crazy! What if she started puttin down 100 miles week!!?
Parker Valby’s leap of faith over the past year is truly inspiring. The personal doubts that could have troubled her inner soul , over the injuries she suffered in the past year, would have interfered with most top athletes from continuing to reach peak performance. Her amazing will and desire to win makes me feel that she’s touched by god’s love. To be humbled by god’s love is to feel it to be other worldly. Once love is known, it’s to be shared with the world.
I think she is better than Katelyn because Parker is 5'7" and K is 5'3". Parker has a longer stride and legs. Track season already started?
She needs high attitude training to increase her oxygen potential and stamina like the kenyans proper resting and massages for injury avoidance and the she will be unstopoable in the ncaa at her age and experience level
And keep that coach dont overrun or overtrain.
Increase 409 800 and 1500 mile speed for a late kick.
.which she lacks.
I thought she was gonna do some remarkable things lasts season but she unfortunately had injuries to deal with and limited training. Hope she can keep her health and continue to improve.
Also, barring Parker -- who would make the 5000m OLY cut off from the USA?
Are you being serious or is this a joke question?
@@samanderson7745 I don’t follow the US TEAM that much tbh. I have a few in mind but curious so maybe fans will share. 🤷🏾♂️
@@henrihelvetica5835 maybe the gal who holds the American record for this distance just under 14:20. lol
@@samanderson7745 the one I had in mind was Weini Kelati actually…
You do over glorify college level runners to the point like they are setting world records or something.
This happens all the time for the past 50 years. College level runners do well set records.
But when it comes to international competition it’s a disaster.
Time to go pro
Full natty bra.
As this girl been checked for PEDS?
She’s insane. Haha first comment.
She's a gator!

Pure White Excellence! Inspiring young White girls all across America! Awesome.
@@threatened2024 Quiet down racist.
Form is the absolute most overrated variable.
🤔
...because she was injured most of the year. you are being dishonest.
You're not alone. She's not good enough to do what she's doing without some questionable help.
@@overcomer1222 for folks who are solely fixated on american running, and in partiucularly high school and college... touhy has a great deal of popularity and appeal. from an outsider perspective...valby is seen as having more potential
@@overcomer1222
T y…… to me, her body looks the same as last year ( fragile ), but where she was weakening towards the end of all the races and getting caught by the likes of Toghy , now she is super woman , running faster than anyone before her.
🧐
Where is that doping fraud Addy?
Katelyn has faster leg speed.
and that’s why she was cooked by valby this cross season?
I'm not loyal to one athlete over the other, I just want good, consistent, high level racing from any and all American athletes!
with such a drastic difference between what parker ran and the previous record I hope she did it naturally.
Where is double hot dog TOUHY? LOL .
She's right where she wants to be. You obviously know nothing about her. LOL!
@@mediocreprofessor3533 BLAH BLAH BLAH .
She made up for nxn
Yeah...that girl on EPO.
Valby has the perfect build (5' 6.5") who will dominate the 800/5k/10k and medley relays??
