You’ve definitely progressed from a serious collectors record store, now with cohearant distribution and being invited in on one of the most important reissue campaigns since the 90s, and your connection to MoFi, yeah, you’re definitely a Biz guy now, congrats Mike, you deserve it, it’s obvious how hard you work
Sold out in about 24 hours, amazing... 3k boxes is not really that many. I was going to pull the trigger on this box but I fell asleep and it was gone by morning. I wonder why they didn't do at least 5k like they normally do on a run...
I (unexpectedly) had the amazing luck to find out Kevin Gray cut my personal favorite record, too. He did a version of “Crooked Rain Crooked Rain” by Pavement. It’s not jazz or classic rock or classical, and I’m not sure what stars had to align for that to happen 😅not entirely sure if it’s all analog but it was recorded in ‘93 so it’s quite possible. Cannot wait to hear reactions to this Doors box set!
I've already started to cut my meds in half 😅 anticipating this release. Happy to see a most deserving ambassador experience this once in a lifetime treat. Congrats 👏. Greg
What an amazing experience. Someone far smarter than me said "“Follow your passions, believe in karma, and you won't have to chase your dreams, they will come to you.”, and it is great to see that you are living that.
It must've been mind-blowing getting to hear the actual master tape to which you have been trying to get as close as possible with different pressings all these years. Just getting to see in person the tape on which your all-time favorite album basically lives must be like a spiritual experience. You earned this. In fact, they were right to have you there as an authority on the album! I am strongly considering this boxed set, but probably when it inevitably remains in print.
A great recording by top engineers should need little to no manipulation to bring the master tape document to lacquer. The view that mastering should extract magic with crafty machinations is erroneous when dealing with beautiful original recordings by engineers with incredible pedigree. Sure, if we start with less than stellar recordings, all bets are off and maybe a mastering can improve that recording. Must have been a dream to hear those tapes. Happy that you experienced this. Thanks, Tony
Hey Mike, so happy to see that you got to be there! I started following you years ago when you uploaded your L.A. Woman Shootout. To watch your journey from then to now has been a pleasure. I'm happy for you and proud of what you've done. Will you ever share with us hardcore Doors fans the video you took of the mastering? We would love to see that so much. Thanks and greetings from Australia!
I’m sure this Remaster will be Good! Bruce Botnick did a great job of remastering the original Doors albums for CD 💿 including adding additional alternate takes that were unreleased! He even adjusted the speed of the debut album 💿 because he noticed the original wasn’t mastered at the correct speed! I really couldn’t tell the difference but he did! Amazing! ! I bought the 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition with the additional CD of Alternate Unreleased Outtakes! Incredible tracks I didn’t know that existed even! 😮😊
Anything analog is a win. I’m excited. And I think just like with the new Beatles coming out it’s a chance to have these titles in perfect shape sounding probably better in a way than the originals, that you’d have to pay a crazy amount to have. Play these and save the originals.
You nailed it. When we're young with limited funds...what albums we had were played a lot. So, I was about 11-12 & The Doors were my favourite band. Limited funds = albums like The Doors 13 (Greatest Hits) & Weird Scenes (another, better GH). I also had ABSOLUTELY LIVE. Here's a kicker - In that time, I picked up WAITING FOR THE SUN, THE SOFT PARADE, & MORRISON HOTEL as cut-corners ($1.99ea). L.A. WOMAN was a Christmas present as was OTHER VOICES (on 8-Track) 😊
FINALLY found out about your hint months ago when you got back from CA trip & I could tell you were excited about both your trip to KG's place and what you couldn't say earlier this year! Very cool.

Really cool Mike. Having emailed you and your team, seems like you all work extremely hard. You all always respond reasonably quick and honestly. You deserve this, cool opportunity. Best
45RPM is going to be better than 33RPM. It's a long album and needs the spacing for best audiophile experience. KG will give AP a run for their money though.
The tail end of a side has an advantage at 45 rpm. The first half is much less so. Also, all the Music Matters titles Kevin did at 45rpm are by group consensus, considered bested by his 33rpm cuts. So we will see.
@@TheInGrooveIsn't the Music Matters thing because the 45s were done at AcpusTech and the 33s were done at Cohearant after KG greatly upgraded his mastering chain?

What a wonderful opportunity for you, Mike…congrats! I do have one bone to pick with Rhino aboit this; I wish they hadn’t announced this without providing a way to order it. I’ve been checking their site and the Doors site several times a day since this was announced but…bupkis. Thanks for all you do, Mike. If you ever decide to expand into Texas, Fort Worth could use an In Groove.
This was not supposed to be announced yet. It looks like the info was provided to billboard magazine by The Doors camp and that took rhino by surprise.

If the first abum in this seriessounds better than the AP I'll pick it up.
This will be the first time we get The Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel in AAA since the 80s in 33rpm. I hope Rhino recreates the original jacket for Morrison Hotel and LAW.
Glad I hold off getting the albums and just got promoted of being an Operator 2 of grinding wafers at my work so a great way to celebrate the occasion. Now just waiting on the pre order window!!!
That's really cool your getting to see LA Woman mastered and cut. I visited Abbey Road Studios in 1983 and was in the tape vault and saw many tapes including of course The Beatles. That prob felt the same for me as it did to see a The Doors getting mastered and cut.
I think we're around the same age Mike, I started listening to The doors at the age of 9 or 10 they have been my favorite band ever since and L A Woman has always been my favorite album of all time 👍
The best vinyl cut I have ever heard of the Doors catalogue are the original 1st pressings. If they can get it close to the originals with a clean fresh cut, that'll be great.
I won't be buying LA Woman, Morrison Hotel or Soft Parade because I have the AP 45, but Waiting for the Sun and Strange Days? You betcha!! Also excited for everyone else who do not have a fantastic pressing...There are plenty of folks out there. Happy for them!

Mike, just curious on your statement about how you’ve been hearing folks complain about nothing can beat This Doors pressing or that Doors pressing… because in my record community i’m hearing concern about the overlap and redundancy of some of the audiophile reissues like LA Woman or Bad Company or Graham Parsons just to name few …these labels seem to be falling over themselves to either outdo each other or jump on the same wagon. Rhino has such a deep catalog that I’m curious about the choice to do The Doors rather than another band. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@@TheInGroove if we were in a bar having a beer I’d give you the same content argument but I know you’re a purist (I’m not) so… I understand what you mean.
Mike I have a question for you. Do you think rhino Records is better equipped to re-release the doors catalog when analog productions is at the top of the game, how can this be? Is it something that you would suggest purchasing for improved sound quality over the analog productions?
Is that an outtake from The Doors LA Woman sessions box set behind you that is playing while you are cruising in your truck there at the first Mike? Sounds pretty cool with Jim yelp singing!
I just bought all the AP 45 albums two days ago before hearing about the upcoming KPG cuts. He is also my favorite vinyl engineer. With only 3,000 copies of the new box made, it might be one that's difficult to acquire. I'll try when it goes live and if it's sold out, I'll be extra happy I got all the 45s. If I get it, I'll be happy to have both as I enjoy comparing differences on various pressings. If the 45s are clearly better, maybe I'll sell the KPG box down the road if money gets tight.
I’m gonna assume you’ll like Kevin’s pressing of L.A. Woman more than Bernie’s UHQR. But, simply because the Rhino Hi-Fi box will be a six-album set, cut at 33, I’ll be curious how you rate this against AP’s Sax-cut set of 45s
@@TheInGroove Is the 2008 box set the same pressings / masterings as the Rhino Vinyl reissues from 2009? I bought those individually several years ago. I think they were mastered by Bernie Grundman and pressed at RTI. Just wondering if they are different in any way from the 2008 box set.
It would be hard to believe that a new Rhino High Fidelity boxed LP set of The Doors could be better than either the Doug Sax mastered Analogue Productions "Infinite" boxed set or the Bernie Grundman mastered UHQR "L.A. Woman" boxed set. The first setback will be if Rhino does their usual thing and have them pressed by Optimal Media. This pressing company does NOT use as good of a vinyl mix as RTI or QRP would use. This results in Optimal Media-pressed records have more surface noise, which can especially be heard during the lead-in, in-between tracks and the trail-out. People may disagree, but if you look at the sound on a graph, you can see the surface noise. This same level of surface noise is preset on other Optimal pressings. Myself, I can usually identify an Optimal pressing by listening to what is supposed to be dead wax, without seeing the record first.
I concur OP. LA Woman AP 45 wont be beaten. The master tape for The Doors is a gonner so we will never get the best self titled. The other AP 45's kick enough ass already. I can honestly say as a big Doors fan i can manage without these Rhino 33's especially when ive got the SACDS, Blu Ray multichannels and other high res masterings. The happiest people of all are surely the scalpers who will be drooling like Mike but for entirely different reasons!
@@tomwebb7091 idk if you have heard any Rhino Hi-fi releases but they are knocking them out of the park. Granted, I have not heard the LA Woman 45 but I think you will be surprised how good these will be
Apologies in advance as it may be well covered/answered ground, but do we have confirmation if release date (Nov. 22) is also order date, or will there be a preorder date? F'n FOMO got me real bad on this one
Normally, they put these titles up for order a week or so ahead of time, but we’ve never had a leak before so I don’t know how they’re gonna handle it.
Half of my Rhino HiFi albums have pressing defects. I’m still arguing with them for a replacement. I already have the AP Doors set so I’ll probably pass on these. I would prefer to have these at 33rpm, but I’m not a big enough fan to justify another new box set. Hopefully they don’t press these at Optimal.
Can someone help me out, how could a Kevin Gray 2003 Dark Side not be as good as a first press? Like why are reissues almost never as good as first presses?
@@LPfingstag I guess the comparison will be the OG, and the analogue productions. As much as I love the analogue productions by Doug Sax if anyone could ever do something as good or better, it’s Kevin with the added beauty of a box set. Both Kevin and Doug are probably rated the best of their generations, so I guess it’s possibly going to be a lot about the mastering system.

Granted, I have not heard the LA Woman 45 but I think you will be surprised how good these will be
Its Kevin Gray. YES we will need it
Here's my prediction on LA Woman: Analogue Productions 45rpm will remain king but the new KPG cut will best the $125 UHQR.
‘The Doors’ announced it or did Rhino announce it? 😊
Will the AP45s go out of print now?
I doubt it.
Another reissue/remaster of the “L. A. Woman” album? Wasn’t it already remastered two years ago by DMC/Rhino?
Every Doors studio album by Rhino up till now has been crap.
@@TheInGroove Thanks Mike. Keep up the great work. I'm not bothered about gettng a numbered copy, as long as I can get one at all
Half of my Rhino HiFi albums have pressing defects. I’m still arguing with them for a replacement.
I already have the AP Doors set so I’ll probably pass on these. I would prefer to have these at 33rpm, but I’m not a big enough fan to justify another new box set.
Hopefully they don’t press these at Optimal.
Aww man. I spent a crap ton of money buying all the AP 45 rpm vinyl Doors albums.
Looks like I’ll be shelling it all out again lol 🤦♀️
A fool and his money are easily parted!
@@tomwebb7091ain’t that the truth! 😅
Wow i’m really git lost in all those LA Women reissues…
How many records can they press from one laquer nowadays?
maybe 100k
He’s like a kid in a candy store😂
Can someone help me out, how could a Kevin Gray 2003 Dark Side not be as good as a first press? Like why are reissues almost never as good as first presses?
Many reissues are better than the original, assuming they are audiophile reissues.
Would you say these will be the definitive editions of The Doors catalog?
@@LPfingstag I guess the comparison will be the OG, and the analogue productions. As much as I love the analogue productions by Doug Sax if anyone could ever do something as good or better, it’s Kevin with the added beauty of a box set. Both Kevin and Doug are probably rated the best of their generations, so I guess it’s possibly going to be a lot about the mastering system.
stoke factor is very high here
Just what we needed from you, another "I love the Doors" video.
And I'm not done. I already have two more planned for this same box set.
@@TheInGroove keep'em comin'!!! L.A. Woman!!
@@TheInGroove I've got my Pepto Bismol ready.
@@TheInGroove what are your thoughts on Sony buying the Pink Floyd catalog, think it could sort off a run of new all analog cuts?
No. They are the only label who don’t offer master tapes for cutting. I can see these as a Mofi One Step in the future.
