  • At the 2022 installment of the Russell Women in Science Lecture Series, Dr. Gilda Barabino related her engineering career path to her lifelong interest in social justice and her career-long drive to advance sickle cell disease research. Sickle cell disease is a complex genetic blood disorder that impacts millions worldwide, and is a public health concern that disproportionately impacts African Americans in the United States. As a distinguished leader in STEM research and education, Dr. Barabino remains steadfast in her work toward impactful outcomes for individuals living with sickle cell disease and the broader community.
