Dialysis in the home is possible. This is called peritoneal dialysis. This type of dialysis is performed using the peritoneum (membrane in our body), hence the name. For this procedure, a peritoneal catheter is inserted into the peritoneal cavity. Through this tube, peritoneal fluid is inserted. The unwanted fluids and salts in the body will mix with the peritoneal fluid which will then be removed from the cavity.

If a person needs dialysis, he needs to consult with the doctor whether peritoneal dialysis can be done for him. If the doctor approves the person is eligible for peritoneal dialysis then it can be done.
