  • Cars in the 1970s had power and lots of character. It was a time of change as the industry went from muscle cars to more economical ones. The gas crisis of the 1970s help modify the car industry. Despite these economic hardships vehicles remained quite large. But they did pave the way for how things were in the 1980s. In this video we will have a look at some 1970s snapshots of people with cars.

My first car in 1979 was a '67 Ford Fairlane 500 hardtop, triple black, 390-4V with a 4-speed. My best friend had a 1970 Plymouth Superbird - 440-6V 4-speed. My brother totaled a brand new 71 Demon 340 blue white stripes and white interior with 3 or 4k on it and no collision insurance as he paid cash for it! Talk about a sick puppy..... I think dodge renamed the demon to duster here in the Bible belt..... Incidentally I was going through some junk and saw the windshield washer pump that came on the new/totalled Demon which consisted of a rubber bellows like pump -mounted in the floorboard- with check valve ball, I connected a vacuum line to it over a bucket of water and it still seemed to function.....

@@markbouldin6513 Thanks for the very nice reply. I appreciate the time you took to contact me. Funny you should mention the windshield washer pump. I had to replace mine also. Along with a lot of other things. So Dodge and Plymouth were two different brands brought out by Chrysler back then. If memory serves me the Plymouth Duster came out in 1970. One of my friends had one. It was a 340 4 speed manual. Sweet car. Then in 1971 Dodge put out the Demon just to shake things up a bit. Pretty much the same car with the 340 in it. I think the Duster came with a 318 motor too if you didn't want the power of the 340. Those were fun days for sure. Wish I could have put the one and only picture up with this video. I had my then girlfriend beside my Demon who later became my wife. She was high maintenance too. Most blondes are. LOL. I only had a cheap Kodak camera back then and didn't hardly take any pictures. My very first car was a mint 1966 Chevelle with a 327 in it. I traded it for the Demon. Was a mistake but hey we were young back then and made a lot of mistakes. Prices were not bad but the wages were. I had bought a 1972 Chevelle with a 350 4 speed standard. Was a great car and the sticker price then was $3,850.00. Now some options cost more than the car. I currently own a 2020 C8 Corvette. This is my third Vette. Had a 1974 when I was 19 years old. Think back then it was around 9 grand. Time and prices have changed. Cheers.
