Beautiful work. Just beautiful! Glue all then turn. I found for exotic woods for foots, use two layers of poplar below targetted exotic for tenons etc. Love your channel.
Die Vase trifft nicht gerade meinen Geschmack. Die Idee ist aber interessant und die handwerkliche Umsetzung wirklich sehr gelungen. Sehr gut gemacht! 👍🏻👋🏻
Hi Peggy 👋🏻- considering how uniform color the two boards of maple look 👀 at the one minute mark I’m surprised how much color variation there is between the individual circles in the final turning. But, I guess that’s maple for you!
PF Woodturning under a natural finish I’ve seen maple that appears to change color depending on the angle from the light angle. It can be a nightmare when people are matching maple 🍁 wood to veneer or even other pieces of wood. However, I was always under the impression that you could get around that by using cuts from same board. 🤷♂️
You made it look so simple Peggy. Some videos on similar make it seem like you need 30 pieces of equipment to do a segmented piece. Great instruction as always yo.
Nice end product Peggy. Maple really shines up well !! I really like this technique of laminating boards and veneer - thanks for sharing your take. -Mike
I just love your videos and peices. You are always very creative and informative. I do have a couple of questions, if I may ask. First, I know you love your Laguna lathe, and I am considering one myself. My concern is how tall it is. I'm a short 5'1" woman and wondered how the height works for you? Secondly, do you have a video of your sharpening technique? Keep on being awesome😊
Hi Carol. Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, I do love my Laguna. I have found that the laguna is fine for my height (which is not all that much taller than you). If it is too tall for you, a simple standing cushion may give you the slight boost you need. As far as the sharpening, no, I do not have a video dedicated to that....yet! Cheers!
Wow it's really beautiful I love the grain of the wood it pops and the veneer looks amazing I really really like this piece I think I have a new favorite piece of art now. Merry Christmas Mrs. Peggy and God Bless Question if someone wanted to say buy one of your pieces for their loved one for Christmas how would one go about doing so if you don't mind me asking Thanks Mrs. Peggy
So, I was thinking about that problem you had centering each stage as you glued them together. Would it work to turn each one round separately, then drill a center hole through all but the last inch or two, and string them together with a dowel or something? Just trying to think of ways to keep the "cake layers" concentric as you stack and shape them. 🤷🏼♂️
Nice vase, I can imagine it with flowers. I made vases years ago but used a plastic finish product (also good for wine goblets) to allow them to hold water. Do you have a shop to seek your products?
@@PFWoodturning I think the product I used and was recommended as being fully washable and was called Rustin,s plastic finish. Although I live in the UK I believe it was a US product.
@@PFWoodturning btw Peggy I As m jealous of the way you use your bowl gouge. I'm more comfortable using my skew than my bowl gouge 🙂 I'm terrified of the thing! 1" bowl gouge fine! Roughing gouge great! 3/8th bowl gouge 😬.
Thanks, William. I didn't do anything special with the grain at all...just wanted it to be random. I bought a couple of new forstner bits, which work much better than the ones I had previously.

I really like the subtlety of the veneer. This is a nice piece. Have you considered a similar one using dark wood?

Beautiful work. What do you use as a sanding sealer that is mixed with the denatured EtOH? Dewaxed shellac??
Thanks. Yes, it is shellac. 70/30 mix (70 shellac and 30 DNA)
Beautiful Peggy like the shape and the veneer, super job. What are the dimensions? Thanks for sharing.

Great work, Peggy! May I ask... where do you get your veneer from? I've been looking for a decent source but haven't found the right thing yet.
Hi David. There is a link in the video description to one kind. The other kind I've used is from Rockler.

How will you finish off the bottom?
Hi Mark...I will most likely just flatten it, either on the lathe or with sanding.
