There were some BIG surprises in the NBA Draft but some expected picks as well. This pod breaks down who passed and who failed with their selections.

Facts
The Raps looked at Scotties shot, determined they can develop it, and went with the guy who is a first class talent with crazy length, huge hands, can defend anywhere, and is also a first class human being. This kid will not only be a force on the court, he will be a leader in the locker room and at practices.( have a look into what his Florida teammates think about him ) After his combine workout, want to know what this kid did ? He stayed on the sidelines and cheered on his competitors. So, a C- for taking the guy projected as a #5 ( As high as #2 on some boards ) over the #4 ? Ridiculous A.M Hoops. I'll give you an F.

Laughing at this one year later, Scottie wins ROTY, Suggs is going crazy in his sophomore seasons, and the rest are meeting expectations except Jalen Green who is kinda dog for a 2 pick
Coming back to this almost 2.5 years. Scottie is the best player from the draft.
This analysis on the Raps pick gets an F grade. 7'4" wingspan with bigger hands than Kawhi paired with a relentless competitive spirit. It takes more than a fancy suit on draft night and Jimmer college hype to get one past Masai. Barnes is an A+ fit and talent period.
Especially now that we are in April and it looks like Scottie will be R.O.Y or.runner.up

Personally I think Jalen Green has more potential than Evan Mobley but I value your opinion
more potential? No. But he is a safer pick. He‘s almost guaranteed to become a Zach Lavine type of star.

Barnes impressed the Raptors at the workout while Suggs didn't. Raptors have a good development system in place. Barnes will become a good player. Stop the slander. It's not "RiDiCulOUs", it was a calculated risk.

Raptors weren’t blown away with Suggs’ interviews and workouts, that’s probably why Toronto drafted Barnes

Suggs sucked so badly in his Raptors workout that he had a panic attack. The Raptors gave him a do-over the next day and he stunk up the gym again. Barnes has been one of their targets for over 3 years and was dynamite on site (in Tampa). Inside info from a contact on staff who was there for all the workouts. Barnes was their guy unless Mobley fell to 4, which would have been possible given Cleveland's storied history of draft night incompetence.

Now that the season ended this is likely the worst video made by casey about this season, he was generally off in his predictions, Scottie B and Giddey are future stars, Jalen suggs looks like a bust up to now, and Bones, Cam Thomas and Davion are def Solid

Lamelo Ball was this year's NBA ROY - coming from the NBL (where both players won ROY). Josh Giddey's stat line almost mirrors it exactly Giddey had less points, but had way better shot selection - hence better shooting percentage.
Ball only played 12 games, and only won 3 of them, losing the other 9. Ball's defence was poor - he just chased steals and got burned (a big reason his team only went 3 and 9 while he was on the floor).
Josh Giddey played 27 games going 13-14 (the team were only 1-8 without him). His defence was way more solid and was a much better team defender. If he's given the opportunity - he will shock you all!
B: 31mpg - 17 ppg on 37% - 7.5 rpg - 7 apg - 1.6 spg - 2.4 topg - 0.38 bpg - 70%ft
G: 32mpg - 11 ppg on 43% - 7.3 rpg - 7.6 apg - 1.2 spg - 3.3 topg - 0.43 bpg - 69%ft
As a Raptors fan I was shocked when I heard the took. Brain Windhorst said Suggs had a bad workout with the Raps but that’s doesn’t deny the fact that he was the better player. However the draft has shown that anything can happen so we will know the real truth of this pick in a couple of years.
you can for sure find more Suggs then Barnes in the league
Yeah Bobby Webster the morning before the draft that they draft the player they think will be the best in 3-4 years. So they think that Barnes will be better long term not short term. I think Suggs is the better talent rn but Barnes has way more potential and will impact the Raptors more than Suggs would.

According to reports many teams had Barnes in their top 4. Some even had him #3. There is a big misconception that Barnes is just a defensive player but his stats suggest otherwise. At #4 you always go BPA and in this case the BPA also happens to have a much higher ceiling than Suggs.

Give josh Giddey some time. He may not be a 6th pick but he is a experienced 18 year old knowing things that can't be told, and he seems like he can develop his jumper (which is his bigger upside)

As a Grizzlies fan, I trust our front office after they took Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane, and Zavier Tillman, but it feels like we gave up Jonas for a worse and more expensive big man in Steven Adams just to draft Ziaire Williams, who probably would have been there at 17. I don’t have a problem with the pick, I have a problem with what we gave up for it.

So two things on the Grizz pick. 1. Giddey was a smokescreen from the beginning. Ziaire was the guy Zach Kleiman wanted. 2. Kleiman received intel that he would be off the board by 17. I think the Primo pick proves that

The raps choose Barnes because Suggs has a bad workout with the raptors, which made them lean towards Barnes. Who had multiple good workouts and heavy links to the team before the lottery announcement.
Loved the Warriors two picks. Detroit and Raptors gona be interesting how they merge these rookies into the game. Lakers need Westbrook for the regular season. Bron and AD can handle playoffs if they healthy. Klay is coming back. Excited about that and how all these young players with Wiseman fits into the rotation of GSW.
I would say that the Warriors are probably keeping the picks. I’m 60 percent positive about this unless a Siakam, Beal or another star trade opens up. They signed a ton a development coaches like Atkinson, Jama etc. Also they are trying to get KG and David West to mentor Wiseman. I think guys like Kuminga and Wiseman will be way better than expected due this. They also have young and upcoming guys like Poole and Jessup who I think may contribute soon. I think this roster can contend next year they just need vets like Iggy (perfect mentor for Kuminga), Otto Porter, Marquess Chriss or even Love that are willing to sign on the minimum to provide experience.

Trying to get a future star at 13 is dumb, as it is well know by the front offices of the Buck and Nuggets. Kind of kidding on the Nuggets part, nobody predicted Jokic, but high upside late in the lottery gave the Bucks Giannis.
Nuggets did draft Donovan Mitchell at 13 tho. Too bad they drafted him for Utah.
You can many players beyond 13 who become stars - Giannis, Kawhi, Kobe, Tony Parker(29th). Siakam was the 27th pick in the draft became an all star. Drafting in is about scouting and examining the intangibles of a player. Green/Jokic were 2nd round picks. There are rules of NBA drafting you need to follow to get a solid to great prospect/pro.

I just think green has soo much potential because of his work ethic, he knows that he is not great on the defensive end and want to improve, plus I just don’t really think Mobley would be right for us he didn’t even want to workout with us

It’s a given that media always bash on the raptors even though everyone basically in league always willing to trade for our players. Barnes is going to be a stud with Raptors development system….. Suggs is still not a guaranteed star in Orlando…. Correct me if I’m wrong the last major stars coming out of Orlando was Shaq, Penny and TMac and he came from Raptors. I ain’t talking about allstar selection I mean real stars. Kawhi increased his like ability while on the raptors including his load management schedule and people tend to forget he wasn’t trending very positively on the Spurs….. Serge Ibaka was also losing value in the league until raptors revitalize his career……Raptors just develop stars simply…. Damon “Mighty Mouse” Stoudamire, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Chris Bosh,demar derozan, pascal siakam, Kyle Lowry ……. We obviously can develop stars the problem is the media always paint Toronto as an undesirable destination.

As a Pacers fan, I really wanted Moody. Duarte is cool, but Moody has so much potential... I didnt even expect him to be available at 13
First off the Magic get about a C at best. If Suggs becomes a franchise player he will be the 1st player from Gonzaga to be so which is a big if. Hell if he makes an impact would be the 1st since John Stockton to do so. As for Wagner, as a Michigan fan glad to see him get drafted high. As a player he was at best a late 1st rounder possibly early 2nd. He is too inconsistent and streaky shooter. Not the most fluid athlete. The Raptors took Barnes because he gives them versatility to play 3 maybe 4 positions. Based on college production numbers are comparable until you factor in Barnes played in the ACC while Suggs played at a mid major. Don't let the ranking and record skew the fact that Gonzaga in a high major conference would be lucky to finish in the upper half.

I think the Jazz picking up Jared Butler after trading down to 40 (meaning a lower salary for a team that will be way over the salary cap if they resign Conley) and two future 2nd round picks was an A+ move for their situation. Obviously, he’s not going to be an immediate star, and it seamed like you graded more on talent than situation, but in their situation the Jazz killed it.
