You have to remember Owen Hart had died only a couple of months prior. Jarrett felt no loyalty to McMahon after how that was handled, I’m sure was in his mind.
Trusting a promoter to pay you fairly what they owe you is like trusting a dog not to bite you the third time. Jeff says he already went to Vince and said he didn't think he got a fair payoff, there's 0 recourse once he goes to WCW if they go with the $150,000 number and short him on what he's owed.
For real, I don't see why people don't get this part. If I worked at a place where one of my best friend's died and it was handled the way it was, I'd be super resistant to being in that company.

Oddly everyone praises this move but Warrior is seen as a bad guy for doing the exact same thing for 500k at WM while being the World Champ shortly after beating Hogan!
This EXACT SAME THING happened with Warrior. People crap on Warrior for "holding up" Vince at Summer Slam '91 but Warrior tells his side of the story in one of his podcasts before he died. That him and WWF had an agreement about the Warrior brand. Warrior sold his own stuff with the "Always Believe" slogan while WWF was allowed to sell Ultimate Warrior stuff with the "Feel the Power" slogan. Warrior showed up at an event where WWF was selling stuff with his slogan and found out that they had been doing that for a long time so Warrior was mad and demanded he get paid the money WWF owed him off of breaking their agreement.
You want to know how good of a move it was? It p*ssed on not only Jeff's legacy, but also on his father and grandfather's legacies. As a business person, completely the wrong thing to do. Worked out for him, but completely wrong.
I really thought Jarrett as a wrestler sucked, especially in later wcw and good lord in tna, but he seems like a pretty straight shooter in this podcast. Great povs from him.
He was a very good wrestler, he just didn't get booked very well in WCW. If Russo had shown more respect for him and actually had him win matches without any bullshit shenanigans, I think his tenure there would have been remembered more fondly.
JR gave him the 150k number that the company thought would square everything Jeff would be owed to that point including that PPV. If you simply add in the 100k paycut they took from Jeff's guaranteed downside prior then I don't see how him expecting to walk away with no less than 250k is unreasonable. Some years back an old colleague walked into work and resigned at the beginning of his shift on a Monday. So, instead of getting his paycheck for the prior week later (the coming Friday as was custom) the company had to cut him a check right then for it plus his accrued paid time off and the production bonus he'd earned for the month so far (usually paid in the next month). I guess my old buddy held up our employer for close to 4 grand on a Monday. 🤣

I cant wait to hear Jeff talk all he went through when he started to date Karen angle
Lmao
Karen was like a Kimberly Page ...stunning ...
He must of been scared as hell about what Kurt would potentially do.
You want to know how good of a move it was? It p*ssed on not only Jeff's legacy, but also on his father and grandfather's legacies. As a business person, completely the wrong thing to do. Worked out for him, but completely wrong.
But it brought us TNA ... for a few years.
I’ve become a super fan of Conrad. Keep up the good work
I really thought Jarrett as a wrestler sucked, especially in later wcw and good lord in tna, but he seems like a pretty straight shooter in this podcast. Great povs from him.
He was a very good wrestler, he just didn't get booked very well in WCW. If Russo had shown more respect for him and actually had him win matches without any bullshit shenanigans, I think his tenure there would have been remembered more fondly.
@@pushon10 I just don't like the character and the slapnuts crap, and everything else. hes just a middle guy to me.
Conrad is working us with the Jeff Jarrett versus Vince Russo angle
A wild slapnuts enters the ring outta nowhere...
You doing the j.o.b to the h.a.w.k

As a kid I never felt anything for Jeff jarett...no homo
The mind of a smart businessman. If you can get the money, get it where it is, not where they put it before it disappears into the ether.
I always liked double J as a heel when he first debuted and he was a good heel overall but I can't believe later in his career when he and whomever thought he was a mega star and someone to lead a company 😂 😆.
How much was his payoff for laying out Beetlejuice 😂
It's amazing how Jarret ducks fucking over JR in this
Bret was the son a promoter also
I heard this same story told by Jim Cornette except for $200k. Maybe just misspoke?
Either way, great story and good for Jarrett.
He had to snatch the dimes from the Gund because he sure as shit couldn't draw them!
THIS was, "The heist of the century!"
Nah, that would have been Lanny Poffo’s WCW Contract from 1995-1999
@@furnitureconsortium Or any contract he's ever had.
Does JJ ever give a straight answer?
lol Conrad has more belts in the background than Double J does. What a champ!
If Jeff was owed the money I don't blame him.
Goddamn how does Conrad keep doing all these podcasts
All he does is eat and talk and get rich........
I can’t believe I just found this now.
I always heard that Jeff came strapped to the money standoff situation.
Thats whats called a great worker.
