My tip is just to reread one of your favourite books OR read a book that has a screen adaptation you liked/ have been wanting to watch. Sometimes (for me) just forcing myself to read a book can help. Waiting around until I actually want to do something could take forever with me lol. So sometimes I just make myself read honestly
I have a strong feeling that books are like relationships. Some books are just not right for you but some books will be better at a different time in your life. I started reading to the lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and DNFd it at around 25% because I wasn’t that invested and it’s not easy to read. A YEAR later I picked it up again and finished it within a week. I ended up liking it too. Same thing with Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. I’ve tried reading that book two times and both times I wasn’t hooked. Tried it a third time and read it within a day. That’s what I love about owning a lot of unread books. There will be a time when a book is just what I needed at that moment, often without knowing it before.
I'm so glad you mentioned how being aesthetic while reading helps get out of a reading slump bc that's what worked for me. I love lighting candles and opening the shafts just a little, with the light off and getting something aesthetically pleasing to drink and then turning on some type of white noise or reading vlog while I read. Or just read in the dark with my phone as a flashlight and it make the experience so much better if I can't focus on or don't want to read. I also recommend setting goals for yourself or just watching book channels and stuff.
lmao i always check how many pages i have left, it definitely does NOT mean I don't like the book,, just wanna see the process. it actually motivates me more
Oh yeah I mean everyone is different but majority of ppl check to see when it’s finally over: just like when you’re at school and constantly keep looking at the time to see how much has passed and then it feels like it takes even longer? If that makes sense hopefully but yeah obviously everyone is diff but for a large group the checking is a hint of trying to get it over with
I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately, but I just started the shatter me series (I'm extremely late ik) and it's exactly what I've been needing. I'm only half way through the first book, but I'm so surprised by how much I'm enjoying it so far.
The imaginary reading friend is so smart omg cause I always feel more motivated when others do it with me but I have no friends who read, so this is perfect for me I’ve never thought about it thank youuu GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY❤️❤️❤️
My top tip is to read on a kindle - I think the electronic screen tricks your brain into thinking you are having screen/phone time and so it feels easier + different to reading a paper book
I just see your a shorts and I wanted to look your chanel. Than I saw this video and this helps me so much because I'm in a slump. You are so great. Your chanel is perfect. Love you so much and English isn't my official language -I'm Turkish- And writing English is difficult for meee
these tips are so helpful! the one that really got me is the page checking - i do this because i feel a bit weird leaving a chapter in the middle. also the reading buddy is so true! i always use a study buddy video to study and put ambiance for reading :) this video really motivated me to get back into reading :) thank u Madita
ever since goin through a break up and mental health just havin a downfall and losing people i couldnt read which was my therapy for like 4 months and i feel so happy since i found this to actually help me bro 😭
Omg just found this account and it’s made my day I have watched so many now and I can’t stop laughing my sense of humour to a T I love it and you thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
i’m super late but the way i get out of a reading slump is by making a playlist for the main/fav relationship or friendship in the book (or your fav character). like putting songs that remind you of those characters is PERFECT for me
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video!! i needed this rn everything or anything has made me not want to read & im scared i’ll hate reading bc i love reading & i want to continue reading & love reading just like i wana read rn anyways love you Madita ❤❤hope your doing well xx
I have read one book this year, and I haven't read a book ever since. Last year, I read 17 books. The main goal was to read 21 books, but it was more than I've read in years. Lately, I've been desperately wanting to read another Agatha Christie mystery because I've really enjoyed the other three books. If I could only reread it for the first time again, that would be amazing. But yeah, sometimes I don't like to read books on a tablet unless I have to. I like to have a physical copy in hand. But other than that, I miss reading, and I'm so sick and tired of being in a reading slump that this happens every so often. Last year, I didn't have this problem as much. It's not until this year that I noticed that im having this issue.. I've looked at my bookshelf so many times for the past couple of days, and I never saw anything I would be interested in. It's not until I came to this video that it has helped me. Thank you for the tips.
For me what really helps are audio books. Because I am a really slow reader so I often get frustrated that I’m so slow. So when I listen to audio books they finish faster than actual reading. With that I get reminded of why I love reading (which is escaping the reality) faster and that motivates me to start again and actually read :D
audiobooks! but this only applies in certain situations and it doesn’t work for everyone. listening to someone read to me while i clean or relax when i don’t feel like reading with my eyes helped me get through some slumps. Last year I listened to the first Percy Jackson audiobook since the release of the show is getting closer, and a few months later I’m rereading and annotating it because of my excitement for the show!
To me reading on the phone really helps on a slump bc when I read physical books i get a feeling like I might be missing important texts or notifications and that distracts me so much. On the phone tho it's easier for me to just check them and come back to the reading. And it also just gives me a break
On my birthday my friend gifted me the series 'Percy Jackson'. Respecting her gift I thought to read it. The first book itself made me feel so bored, but I kept going cause IDK. I felt if I don't read then it'll be a betrayal. By the time I got to Vol 3, I knew that it's not for me and from that time I'm in a reading slump.
For me after reading the acotar series, I had fantasy burn out because all I read was fantasy… TIP: try a different genre…I switched to romance (the fine print) and it made we want to read more romance books!
I have been on a reading slump since middle of 2021 bc of a fanfiction I read ( actually two) and they were so sad I literally cried for WEEKS just thinking about them.
I'm in my first reading slump, I've been reading continuously for like 7 years and never once have I been in a slump since now. When I realized I wasn't reading I was so confused 😭😭😭😭
I'm Currently in a reading slump and I have my tips to help me get out of a reading slump, like ; read a fast-pace book, It's can be a humorous book, a romance, a thriller or wathever that is a fast-pace. Right now I'm trying to listen to audiobooks, and it's really helpfull if you don't want to sit and read. You can also read graphic novels, it's fast-pace and generally short (some rec ; Heartstopper and Lore olympus) Hope that's will help you!
My biggest tip as far as book buying goes: read the first chapter of whatever you want to buy in the store before you buy it. I can't begin to tell you how much money this has saved me. The blurb on the back will be so interesting, the cover will be so pretty, the reviews on Goodreads will be coasting at a cool 4.5, and then I read that first chapter and I can't STAND the author's prose. Obviously, be careful with the book, and don't bend the pages or crease the spine, but maaaaaan, that first chapter sample will save you a hell of a lot of money.
Reading slump? -do not read on your phone! -make reading a vibe! (Get coffee/tea) -find a reading spot! -go to the bookstore, read some backs and pick out the most interesting one! -play classical music in the back (She didn’t say but jazz is also so good to read with) -reread your favourite book! -have an imaginary friend to read with you (to get motivated) -do not check how many pages you have left in chapter/book! -read after finishing stressful chores! -give yourself a reward! -read short books! -read dramatic books! (Plot twists) -read books with movie/tv show adaptions! -don’t compare yourself to other readers! -DNF the book if you are bored and dreading to read it!!!
a good girls guide to murder got me out of mine I literally finished the first two books in like four days im on the last one rn and im so excited I've heard sm good shit bout it
It’s kind of funny, I am one of these people who get weirdly motivated when checking how much I have left from my book. LOVE checking how much pages are left in a chapter/book. Only tracking my reading speed while doing readathons because it usually disappoints me LMAO (slow-ish reader here) 😂
Thanks so much for the tips. I've tried everything to get out of this slump but nothing has worked so hopefully these tips will. I've only read 5 books in 2 months😢.
Another thing would be try to not listen to music with like a lot of “noise” or a ton of stuff in the background. Listen to like Cigarettes after Sex or one of the neighborhoods calmer songs, or if any music at all is distracting then try brown noise, it’s so nice
when english is not your first language, reading in your mothertongue makes reading easier too. with english books I always think "I cannot read this rn, it takes too much concentration" whilst the other ones at least take the language barrier away

Love how your first tip is to not read on your phone because I'm over here being the person who only reads books on my phone because I'm broke, book prices in Canada are absolutely atrocious, and I don't want to purchase books unless I know that I absolutely love it because otherwise it's a waste of money for me. Anyways I just found that really funny 😂
Yeah while recording I was like: “wait a sec madita what about people who cannot/ will not big physical book?” That’s why I mentioned the kindle but I mean if you have always been used to read on ur phone and don’t get distracted normally then you’re better than be lol Bc the phone is my biggest weakness
Quick story so my mom would always read to us literally the back of uncle ray chips take us to the library then my dad died and i dont think i ever read fr again unless it was something outrageous on wattpad I've now started back into physical books i was reading a book but stopped i used to always get sad and go i wanna read again but never did im also a maldaptive daydreamer and i like to day dream about my books which is hard for me to focus because I'd be thinking about if a character turned into a demon and envision the scene and sht
11:43 lol Dance of Thieves got me out of my reading slump and it’s a chunky fantasy book 😂 and the book that got me in a slump was like barely over 200 pages and I forced myself to finish it because it was the last book in the series and I just wanted it to be over 😅
Today I came to realization that I’m in a reading slump. I was trying to read like 10 different books Including audio books etc and I wasn’t in the mood and I didn’t like anything to the point I was getting angry. I didn’t know what is slump. What is reading slump. I heard of it and I was like please that’s not a thing well I think I’m in oneeee. I've been in a reading slump for a month, I blame "the ballad of never after" it wrecked me :'( .

Dude. Three goddamn years. I wanna get out of here
@@notapeopleperson6761 goddammit girl that’s aaaa lot, I’m sure you will get out of it one day i mean hopefully
