    @JanJan-pq4im 3 роки тому

    You inspire this flower gardener. My garden is nothing compared to yours.
    Did you try dish soap and water mixture spray on your Japanese beetles? I successfully eradicated mine with the mixture. They used to demolish my plants, especially my sweet potato vine. I have not had them back in 5 years or more now. This is the time to kill them before they lay their eggs which will overwinter in the soil and emerge next year to terrorize your garden. The mixture does not harm plants.
    Your garden is beautiful! I particularly love the side and back gardens!!

    Hi Heidi. Your garden is so beautiful and so well planned. I bought a BoBo this year because I loved yours but mine is getting rust like spots on the leaves and the leaves are starting to fall off. The few buds it had are also shriveling. I went ahead today and trimmed off all the stems that had bad leaves on them. Any thoughts as to what might be going on would be appreciated. Also thanks for the info about not fertilizing the sun patients. I planted a lot of them this year and I have fertilized them with proven winners fertilizer at 1/2 strength but they’re not performing as well as I think they should. I’ll not fertilize them any more this summer. Thanks so much for the tip and for sharing your beautiful gardens.

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  3 роки тому

      It sounds like you have rust. We would recommend removing all the bad leaves (which it sounds like you did). You can use fungicides to help get rid of the issue. Bonide Liquid Copper Fungicide is one we can recommend. I hope this helps!

    Beautiful gardens!! Do you find that the mini-mauvettes can take more sunshine that say, a h. macrophylla? Also, how big do they get? I'd like to plant some near our foundation which faces East, so it gets the intense hot afternoon sunshine.

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  3 роки тому

      They are more sun tolerant than the Macs. If you are facing east that would be morning sun correct? Depending on where you live, they can handle the sun. If you are in the south or more southern you may want more of a part shade location.

    Beautiful, as always. The last garden bed you showed (with the Incrediball in the middle) - about how many years does it take for the various perennials to really fill in the space? I just redid my front garden beds this spring and I didn’t want to overcrowd the plants I put in, but as a result it looks a bit sparse, and I’m wondering how patient I have to be, lol. Zone 5b, Chicago suburbs, south facing beds.

      They are probably closer to 3ft, I think they a little bigger than what the tag says. However at the greenhouse they are planted in the landscape and they stay smaller.

    My sedum falls over and then there becomes this big empty space in the middle of the plant. How is yours so upright?

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  3 роки тому

      If that happens, you can trim it in June and let it flush back out. Sometimes this helps with the flop.

    Will any of the hydrangea grow in full sun on the west side?

    • @gardencrossings
      @gardencrossings  3 роки тому

      Yes there is. Any of the Smooth Hydrangeas or the Hardy Hydrangeas would work on the westside. Just make sure they get plenty of water.

      I agree. Especially early in the year. PW is hard to find here in Oregon also. Never could find coral lime sedum.

      I'm so sorry you have such a hard time finding PW annuals in your area. We do ship PW plants, so if you are ever looking for specific ones, you can pre-order them in the winter and they will ship to you in the spring.

    Heidi, Thank you for the tour and your plant knowledge! You always provide so much inspiration. Your hostas are beautiful. Are they under pine trees? Can you suggest other plants for dry shade?

    • @gardencrossings

      They are underneath pine trees. Here are a few more options that I have found that work well for dry shade: Ferns, Hellebore, Aralia Sun King
      Hope that helps!
