  • When the resident male is killed by hunters, one of the young mountain lions gains control. We follow him as he defines his territory and hunts the deer herd, all while learning what it means to be an adult male. The Lions of the Americas go by many names, from mountain lions, cougars to pumas and panthers. These fearsome creatures are agile in nature but are mostly solitary animals. What threats do mountain lions face?

    Anticosti island would be a paradise for cougars, lots of space few people, no wolves or bears and an overpopulation of whitetail deer. 🌲🦌🐆🌳

    I must say that this isn't hunting this is slaughtering. You have one animal being chase buy three other animals and then the two-legged animal with the gun kills and takes the trophy home. What if it was a female mountain lion hunting for her Cubs they just ended the life's of two babies and the Mother way to go Yo!.

      You wouldn't have the same feeling of your little lap dog was taken out of your yard. They're hunted as a way to control and conserve the species.

      @@ShonnMorrisCalifornia is stupid. They paid out of state hunters a quarter million dollars to take 20 lions out of a specific area in Southern CA. They reek havoc on the deer and elk herds that are struggling to regain populations. There's way more lions than the mess will let you know. I lived in CA for 35 years and hunted. I've seen so many of these animals. I love seeing them but I also understand the need to manage them. Even the wildlife biologists that work for and with the cdfw says they need to open up a management system. Instead of paying someone to come in and kill then they could be selling tags and putting money into the state and conservation efforts but the misinformation spread by groups like Peta has convinced the concrete dwellers that the lions are struggling when they're not.

      @@maddawgnoll I normally don't respond to such hinhinged and incohgerent responses by I will for those reading and this will be my only response. natural predators keep a balance in their prey populations and have done so for millions of years. Humans have to be extremely arrogant to think the natural world requires us to play God over it LOL. Deer and Elk populations are hurting due to human activity. I just needed to set the record straight for those who may be reading. This will not turn into an online argument so this discussions ends here and I will not be responding to anything else you say.

    The footage of the cat supposedly running away from the hounds was a big tom. The cat they shot was not the same individual...creative editing...nice try. Humans have hunted with dogs for thousands of years. This is nothing new. Hunting lions with dogs is the only real effective means to harvest lions. These hunts are highly regulated to ensure populations remain healthy and sustainable. Recreational hunting generates revenue for the state/province that directly funds the continued conservation and management of that resource. Recreational/subsistence hunting (yes, people eat lion meat...it tastes like pork) imparts a transactional value to the resource which provides an incentive to always maintain healthy lion populations. Without some level of recreational/subsistence hunting, authorities just end up killing lions anyway due to human/livestock conflicts when the populations become too dense...and yes, they use dogs. The sad part is, they just leave the lion to rot, where a recreational/subsistance hunter is legally required to process the meat for consumption.
    The editing doesn't show the miles these guys actually hiked up and down steep mountains in deep snow chasing a pack of dogs on a lion track...again creative editing to twist the narrative.

      This comment should be pinned but that will never happen. All these anti hunting viewers need to be educated on why they are hinted and given the facts instead of the agenda.

      To hunt a kill a beautiful, majestic animal like a mountain is obscene. In this day and age there’s no need to hunt for substance. If someone feels a need to hunt for substance I think it’s not for substance, it’s purely for the pleasure of the hunt and killing an animal. I wouldn’t eat mountain lion I would much rather eat a good old fashioned beef steak.

    • @maddawgnoll
      @maddawgnoll 27 днів тому

      @@EdwardBautista-p4p Better than the crap you buy at the store. More organic than the bullshit they claim is organic. That's good that you want to go to the store and buy meat and food where the farmers and ranchers decimate any unwanted critters. Not that that bothers me because we gotta do what we gotta do. I might try mountain lion if given the opportunity. They say it's very similar to pork. But I wouldn't hunt mountain lions for meat. I live with these animals and have had them get too close to me, my nephews and family. They are way more important than anyone's feelings about hunting. I won't hesitate to put one down, save a herd of elk, deer and peace of mind. I agree they are beautiful powerful creatures. Don't think that's gonna stop me from having to do what I feel is necessary. Not to mention that all these animals that people claim we're encroaching on need to be managed to prevent disease or starvation. It's life guy. Nothing will bring these dogs more joy than doing what they're bred to do. I like beef, but elk and deer venison are way better in my opinion. Bear meat is probably my favorite ever. Most hunters are selective in what they harvest. We don't just shoot anything. They are the largest pool of money that goes to conservation for these animals. The tax dollars from the licensing and tags pay for the public lands and wildlife reserves, refuge systems that so many of the anti hunting population use to hike, bike, or whatever else.
      90% of the hunters that claim it's sustenance, or survival. They're wrong, because there are other options that are far less expensive unless you live in the sticks like I do. But I bet well over 70% will tell you it's for the comradery, memories, family and friends. It has nothing to do with squeezing the trigger, releasing an arrow, or killing. For most of us it isn't about shooting the animal but the spoils of success for the effort and time we put in. I personally don't enjoy shooting the animal at all, but everything else that goes with the hunt makes the shot exciting. I'm very happy to use that which God has provided, it's blasphemy not to
