Halfway through this trance-inducing fantastic number, you get to a point where it feels like this state of total, fullfilling, all-encompassing elation just might never end, a glimpse of eternal bliss.
You can't really rate one artist against another because what they do is different and it's subjective as to who is better etc... Better is to look at the individual merits of each artist in their own context.
This song has to be one of the greatest recording achievements ever! I don't think anyone has even come close to using so many tracks on one song. And somehow she managed to make it all work together.
I saw somewhere that she recorded this mildly drunk so that she could pull off the "looseness" effect in her voice as well as the emotional changes she jumps back and forth in. Don't know if that's true but it makes sense. A bit of alcohol can relax the vocal cords, as long as it's not too much. The old saying "Three will prime the pump but six will clog the pipe". :)
It really makes me wish that this version was available on streaming platforms, 'cause this original mix showcases the drums and her vocals much better, even the instruments too. But I respect her creative wishes; she obviously preferred the single mix, for whatever reason. I assume it's because the intro is less straight-forward, 'cause I don't like how it starts with the LinnDrum early, either. So I understand her. Alas, she sounds better here.
@@eulonzomixesYeah the intro in the 2018 Mix is better than this one. But the original has a better prominence of her voice as well as the drums which sound cleaner.
i fell in love with Kate Bush after hearing"The Ninth Wave" for the 1st time...when i was 15...i am now 37 and i am still in love with you sweet Kate...you are without doubt the greatest female songwriter of all time
I came Kate Bush across because of a woman who taught me of the western woman's stance Christian belief, she hated the church she is old pre-Christ re.religion and aside from that I like where Kate Bush is from she is old religion non monotheist truth: ''We are of the going water and the gone. We are of water in the holy land of water And all that's to come runs in With the thrust on the strand." from whence we return, effectively the same teachings of the 1st Nations.
Why did they end up releasing a totally different version for this as the official version? This one, where the drums come in straight away is much better, the whole pace of it is so good and I feel like you can't buy or stream this version anywhere. But this version is the one I remember being on the album (hopefully it won't disappear as soon as I mention it).
It was Kate's decision. When she made a different mix for the single version, she replaced this original mix with that one, as she preferred it. I assume it's because she possibly changed her mind about the mixing of the track, being a perfectionist and all.
I disagree with y'all saying it's The Kick Inside. Hounds of Love is much more diverse, sonically, melodically, aesthetically, and structurally. The Kick Inside sounded more homogonous than Hounds of Love. At least personally, it requires at least 4 or 5 more listens for me to really digest all 13 tracks which sounded quite similar to each other. Also, it was very piano-driven, which Hounds of Love had more diversity. It can be big (My fav, The Big Sky), intimate (And Dream of Sheep), unsettling (Waking The Witch), and the like. It was more interesting and memorable as an album and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed all 12 tracks. I did like The Kick Inside quite a bit, but Hounds of Love is MILES better. One of the best albums of all time.
@@mashthempotatoesplease5401 Exactly! I always found Kate Bush somewhat enjoyable but a bit silly prior to Hounds of Love, which I consider to be her high mark in terms of writing and production.
I've always loved this track, it's sonically so layered and rich. There are parts of it dying to shine especially in the rhythm section and some of the backing vocals. It would be well worth the effort to remaster it I think.
I actually almost prefer the special single mix she replaced it with but that might be because that's the one I heard first. I love this one too but it's a bit messy and I can see why she changed it. But I wish this version was on streaming services too so we could have both!
Agreed. I personally don't think it's messy, but perhaps it is in terms of the sonics of the track, whereas the special single mix is more balanced. But her vocals are more clear in this version, ironically.
I like this mix better than the one found on the CD release. The didgeridoos stand out more in this one. On the CD version, they're pushed so far into the background you almost can't even hear them.
Hounds of love is my favorite Kate Bush album it's just a wonderful and fun journey of this talented woman's eccentric and beautiful universe that invites and seduces you into this extraordinary musical adventure

This is actually the original album mix. It was replaced with the single mix on a CD/download reissue about 8 or 9 years ago. The 2018 remasters also have the single mix.
I'm so grateful I have the 1997 remastered version of this album as it contains this original version from 1985, plus the 12" version of Running up that hill. I can only assume Kate now prefers the the remix of The Big Sky to replace it on the 2018 remaster. Weird
Kate Bush is a force of nature, she's from another planet. Unbelievably unique and talented

You nailed it
My 1985 copy of this CD with its broken cover has outlived jobs, relationships and will outlive me, too...
❤🎉
In my opinion , she is the best famle music artist of the uk of all time...
who would you rate higher than her, worldwide?...
YES !!!!!
UK: none
Worldwide: Joni Mitchell > Kate Bush
It's between her and Björk overall. But then, we should just rate them as artists and not female artists.
You can't really rate one artist against another because what they do is different and it's subjective as to who is better etc... Better is to look at the individual merits of each artist in their own context.
Art rock at its finest.
+Mr. Wyatt The greatest exponent.
Not really Art Rock, this is one of Kate's most commercial sounding tracks.
Steven Matthews its not rock. Its damn good pop
I'd call it art pop

Bowie - Subterraneans. Cocaine ++ Perhaps even more tracks. Definitive tighter because it was mixed at lower volume.

Definitely Kate Bush’s most solid album.
Disagree. The Kick inside wins hands down
