Gotta admit to gettin little queasy seeing you on those dead trees, so nervous they would break, glad you are the professional!!! PHENOMENAL JOB MY FRIEND!!
Yes that carburetor is governed as you can see why after running it lol. Finally glad your getting to experience one of the best saws the US ever produced. Mac had some amazing saws but in big wood with big bars and chains that 5200 will go off an leave just about everything including modern saws, the quad reed setup makes the saw really strong, the 5200 can pull a 36" bar with .404 chain. Kensie
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith it is governed internally, it was quite common on the big cube Poulan saws because they were easy to burn up if your not carful, the started using the internally governed tilly HS carbs in the 70s. If you look on the side of the carb there is a brass looking screw that is actually the high speed governor that is a check valve and will open based on rpm/vibration so the saw won't over rev, in some cases it will even kick in while in the cut, but yours doesn't, it sounded good.
I cut a lot of wood with my old poulan pro 395 -65cc and it's been a good saw for me ,nice to see ya running something out of the ordinary, another good learning experience .Thanks Billy
Your videos are always inspirational and educational and a size you come up with are just inspiring I don't know where you get that stuff from but I've never seen a good pull on and you get several of them keep up the good work I enjoy the videos
I’m sticking with you bro you are the teacher nobody else really wants to help me so I’m going to tagalong and watch your videos consistently because in the last two days I have learned so fucking much it’s not even funny I apologize for swearing but sometimes great men need to hear the respect they rightfully deserves.
Great Day out cuttin' up trees Buckin', Victorious, and Hogan, you guys chewed those up like toothpicks....but Buckin' you must have read my mind, I sort did the same thing while putting the file to my teeny saw chain(38.2cc Poulan, 18' bar (made by Husquavarna BTW)) yesterday, gonna try 'er out today on some little sticks, gotta clean up my girls moms yard, bunch of dead branches got knocked out of a couple of trees ( one is a pine, the other is an oak) in her neighbors yard right next to her property line but the junk is in her yard and the neighbor isnt in the best of shape to handle it, so I will let ya all know how that rolls out. Be Kind, and have a safe and enjoyable Sunday. Ok, I am off to "work", see ya' in a bit. Hello and Welcome to the channel EVERYBODY. Have some coffee, chew on a donut, and just chill out. See ya in a bit. ~ Chris~
That's right I heard somewhere husky is making poulan now, not sure the details maybe someone can fill us in. I think I even saw the logo on part of one of my poulan a recently. Stay safe and hope all goes well for you.
not sure if Husky is "making them, but I saw 1 of each side by side at Tractor Supply, and many parts appears identical...the Husky 240 is darn near what I have, except for the primer bulb location....the switches, knobs, and general shape are the same, the displacement on both is 38.2 cc...
and yes the logos are on mine as well, and just out of curiosity, I looked up some parts for each, and they appears to be interchangable for the most part. Ben Timmers
this is what makes this channel great all the welcoming, and warm friends here. I have been following a couple years now don't comment alot I try to. love your videos buckin I'm glad I found this channel. I stumbled on it because I was getting into climbing with no teacher I have friends that do it but hours away. so it's been a slow roll the biggest learning curve is what trees are safe. you and victorious answered that with the dead hollow tree video. thank you. saw shop looks crowded ha. have a great day. hello to all my friends here have a great weekend.
Glad to see you discovered the big counter vibe poulans. You will find out they pull stronger than just about any other saw of there size vintage or modern. I love it!!!!
Thanks buckin for putting up another great video I learn more and more each time I watch your videos thanks again keep up the good work and keep up with the positive
5.2 cube/85cc beast produced from 1975-80.Big brother to the 4200 -4.2cube/69cc of same vintage. Very popular amongst vintage saw collectors/users,they're pretty scarce now,not easy to find parts either.I need to get my prized 5200 going, needs carb work/new fuel lines, some other minor tinkering. All the things I've heard from old timers is that a well tuned 5200 will outcut a Stihl 066 of same era that has 7 more cc's. Good luck with that 5200,Billy.Have fun & stay safe!
Your a man after my own heart lol. I love that series of countervibe poulans. I have a 5200 as well as two 4200s one with a bow bar. I do think the carburetor is governed on the 5200 but not the smaller 4200. It uses a jet of some device. Super glad you put your hands on one of those powerhouses. I knew once you did you would like them.
Wow....she cuts !! Very interesting chain work there Buckin. She was chewing that log up nicely....now you have me thinking 😲 HELLO to the new subs and tell all your friends to come check out the BBR experience !!!!!! Love to y'all ♥️♥️♥️
Welcome all new subscribers! I think Cletus explained about the gullet very well and there's no mistaking what Buckin was teaching us. Love that message you added at the end of the video. Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Buckin' Billy . Regarding the gullet, you may want to get a copy of Madsens' new summer catalog (if you don't already). In the back they explain why on square ground chain it is necessary to periodically grind the gullet with a grinder with a round ground wheel. They show that the limit to the gullet is no more than 1/8" in front of the bottom of the square ground tooth. They also show what happens when someone tries to take the gullet out with a grinder set up for square ground chain. I don't use square ground chain but I found this article in Madsens very interesting based on your previous comments of "Get the gullet my friends!" I know when I grind chain I drop down from a 3/16" wheel to a 1/8" wheel when the cutter is half worn just so I can get a better profile in the gullet. I also drop 1/64th in file size so on my 3/8 Stihl RS chain where I use a 13/64" file to start about half-way I drop to 3/16" chain. On my .325 I go from 3/16" file to 11/64" file at the half way point. It keeps my gullets at near the original factory shape and gives a good hollow grind on the cutter versus a grinders chisel grind. After saying all of that it is interesting how Oregon in their grinder instructions advise to only go down into the gullet as far as the radius of the edge of the grind wheel. I am guessing the moral of the chain grinding/filing story is to do what works for you in the type of wood you are cutting. Thanks for the great videos and I purchased the Husky raker guides. They are so far superior to Oregon and Stihl it is unbelievable. Thanks for one of your subscribers passing this along several months ago. I cannot believe how much better my chains cut when all the rakers are even.
Glad your diggin the new saddle Buckin they're a long way from our old pole belts eh! Comfort and confidence in the tree is a bigger deal than anyone really got through to me
Just jointed, filed rakers, set and sharpened the cutters on my crosscuts last week. Once you have done that filing a chainsaw is comparatively simple. Great to see you guys working as a team! We have major beetle problems here in WI on Red Pines. I have 47 and I think they are all gonna go. Some have no beetle but die in a few months from a fungus--big knots on the branches
Great video! I like the old v notch on the top to repel out of when you don't have a limb to hang your climb line I do this when topping habitat trees thanks for the footage stay safe!
Great! As usual, loaded with info, tips and enthusiasm! Gets me to want to cut again,!! This guy is really special...the real deal...reality show with actual death defying exploits...truly enjoy his Outlook and insights.
Billy, look into how Poulan started. Very interesting. He used German prisoners of war and came up with a very clever idea. Great video again Mr buckin.
I believe that if you gave Buckin’ Billy Ray the shell of an old power saw, he and his magic little screwdriver would have it purring and chewing up fir trees like crazy. I just enjoy the daylights out of his videos where he resurrects old saws and uses them cutting big trees. Hello new subs, welcome to the channel, glad to see you made it here. Spread the kindness.
Yes that would be interesting to see the collections even if you have to make it in 2 videos, one for axes and one for the saws. That saw room is glorious.
Next Time you’ll be in the top off the tree! Give me a hand sign buckin! I’m sure i could see you from Québec! Hi ! Hi! That was freaking crazy up there! 😂👍🏽🥁
I've never been a fan of poulan but also I have never seen that big of a poulan where I live. There all small prolly with the most a 20"bar. It's more husqvarna or sthil. Nice job on them tall balsams. That's was a interesting way you filed that saw. And the sum buck cut! Awsome!!!
That poulan is a nice machine buckin, interesting file work definitely got to try that out, thank you for sharing that tip..welcome new friends and hello to Victor :-)
I honestly have to say that the older poulans were better built back before the mid 90s. I picked up a 85 poulan 2000 limmer and rebuilt the carb and guts and she runs like a champ.
Loaded one hope you an the boys are doing well in the Australian winter? Enough wood to heat the stove hot?😉 The girls and me we're doing well - love down under my friend
Well hello to the U.K. Love you all over there..And good morning to the rest of us here, It's a great day today and a great way to start your day, Coffee and some BBR with the boy's..it just doesn't get much better friend's, well in less than 3 week's we will be having our re-union of some great people coming together for a great time, I'm sure it will be filmed for all to see.. I just cant wait, I'm getting more and more excited everyday..lol Friend's you all have a great day,Spread the love, and Take care out there..
Man this gave me some anxiety.. Felt like I was up in the tree. I'm a weekend warrior on my propert, but climbing up big trees.. Nope. lol Much respect man!
Welcome to any new subs, a salute to the true blues... has any environmental authority’s trying to combat the beetles? Such a shame to see all those trees dying.... good job on the work site lads, ... enjoy the rest of the weekend y’all...love n hugs for mama buckin....😎👍🇦🇺
Never done any climbing but totally get the part about easing down using your arm and gently dropping the strap so as not to put big shocks into the wood rather than bouncing back against the strap as you walk down, Good safe advice right there, bugger I want to be younger and fitter and start climbing.
Thats how I file a chain and it works good on softwood but can have a bit of a problem on hardwood and will require some touch up filing about midday. This is funny that you are experimenting with the way I do it and I am trying your ways at the same time. Never too old to learn and experiment (evolution of a logger ) (LOL)
Cynthia Herr : Good to see you again, Cynthia! You could do me a very big favour if you wouldn't "sir" me. Being old is not my fault. Rather my parents. 😉 Thank you very much in advance, you 'good soul of our community' - as not only I see you!
Okey Dokey Peter, No more sir, I promise..I agree cause being called Ma'am would be the same with the girl's and I too find it not very comforting as well, Aww and thank's for the kind word's, Have a great Sunday my friend..
I'm pretty sure none of the saws in that series have any type of rev-limiting. I'm thinking it's the flex in the linkage rod, that is causing the spring like feeling, the throttle require very little force to go to full throttle. I've never seen a muffler like that on a 5200, that is a new one to me. When it comes to the gullet, I have used chain that never had the gullet touched, and it cut OK, not 100% to my liking, but acceptable. Now "IMHO" I don't see how the gullet will add stability, as that area has a lot of relief, it's angled inward and should really never touch wood. As always I could be wrong though lol. Good to see you trying new things. This type of experimentation is in part what makes your channel what it is. Your real world experience and application of the new, and of the tried & true, is really nice to see. Anyway take care everyone. BE KIND!
The Poulan 5200 does have a rev limiting device in the carburetor. Its the little brass plug-looking thingie near the choke lever on the carburetor. It is a valve which opens to add extra fuel when the air velocity through the carburetor venturi gets high enough to create enough vacuum to open the governor valve. Adding fuel fattens the air/fuel mixture thus causing the engine to slow down. It might also prevent the saw from overheating from running on a lean mixture. If you must, the governor can be disabled by removing it (it appears to have some sort of sealant on the threads) drop a little aluminum disc ( cut from your favorite beverage can using a paper punch) into the hole and re install the governor on top. The movement felt in the trigger is due to the carburetor being mounted solidly to the engine and the trigger is attached to the rubber- mounted handle assembly.
Some of these new saddles are very comfy yet still rugged BBR. Victor which SpiderJack did u try? Be real cool if we could try a lot of this new gear before we buy in a lot of cases just once up and down a Tree can tell u a lot. Have a great nite friends
I will say it agin,,,Buckin could get a butter knife sharp enough to fell a tree! LOL. Hey nice saw paints buddy I’m gonna get some in the near future.
Just FYI: mixtures are not "fat", a dietary thing. Try "rich". The Poulan brothers pronounced their family name (totally their call) as po-lan, like Poland without the "d". I've put many hundreds of hours on saws bearing their name, FWIW, 38 to 60 cc.
On my ground chains I leave some of the gullet...too much removed and she gets too grabby, too much left and she don’t pull. Hey Buckin here’s something I’d like for you to try... so I use a round grinder to gullet my felling chains AND what I do is grind the gullet the same angle as both my top-plate and side-plate. Like I say leave a little bit of gullet. I tell you what, my chains run smoother and stay right true in the cut. I’ve turned a few partners on to that trick and they agreed after trying it. Also I file my rakers on an angle, with a Carlton file plate, another trick to smooth things out. Combined I’m able to run an aggressive grind without the harsh pull & chatter....in frozen wood I file the back of the tooth off a bit and boy do they cut. I seem to get better mileage than guys next to me. I get as much or more done and pack gas off the hill when they’re bone dry. Just my .02, you might like to try
Austin denotter that's cool yeah at my saw shop our next size file below 7 32nd is a 13 64th im sure there is alto of sizes out there nice to try new things and what brand do you like for files?
Sad to see the trees do that. Is the beetle getting the younger tree too? Reminds me of the chestnut blight affecting the American Chestnuts down here.
Very sad indeed.. In Ohio 1 in every 10 trees is Ash, sadly the Emerald ash borer has killed nearly every Ash tree in south west Ohio and the bug is spreading fast.
Ahh that's no good. The condition of the one you were climbing was disturbing. You said something about "a few months ago" the trees were fine or at least not dead? I'm guessing the beetle came in from elsewhere, and there are no natural enemies. Is it sticking with the balsams or jumping to other firs?
"I am in no hurry,I am at peace." Didn't hear it in this video but I'm figuring you have other ways of dealing with stress, Buck. Maybe just another thing you have a knack for?
Would'Ja look at Young Hogan Big Gunns Eh ? Great job, fellas ! Hay Newb's welcome to the Greatest Outdoor show around Pullup a stump & enjoy the show. Hay Blues Hoping every-1's doing well Be Happy Friends ! ATB Ter God Bless
appears to cut a cleaner tighter kerf, but not any faster? Victor, picked up rock exotica unicender a few weeks back, only used it half dozen times srt base tie and ddrt on some fir dead limb clean up pruning. Seen Travor Ahern using it quite a bit, cuz it can bit put on & off rope mid line for change up tie in.
Buckin, I had a quick question that I was curious if you had ever discussed. With your love of Husqvarna, McCulloch, Homelite, and the occasional old Poulan, Why do you use the smaller Stihl trimming saws when you are climbing? Do you find that Stihl makes a better single hand saw? Just curious and your thoughts on it! Take care!!
This is a gem! Please bring back cleatus! Get him back on the team!!!😉 I watch your videos daily brother, I love the content and I love the messages.
Gotta admit to gettin little queasy seeing you on those dead trees, so nervous they would break, glad you are the professional!!! PHENOMENAL JOB MY FRIEND!!
Man that gave me chills when he turned that file and it made that sound.
Nice cutting chain what a way to chew it up and spit it out
Welcome to all the new subscribers
Omg, what a dream of a saw room! I love your videos, keep up the great work!
THANK YOU FRIEND
“These balsams are skanky.” Lol awesome video. Thank you.

I find the discussion in the comments as interesting, positive, and helpful as the video that stemmed them.
VERY INSTINCTIVE OF YOU ,, PROBABLY ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS THIS CHANNEL IS STIL BEING RUN .. BECAUSE OF THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE ,, THX FRIEND ,,
Those old Poulans are good saws. Made in USA in Louisiana.
YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE best
Yes that carburetor is governed as you can see why after running it lol.

BBR could totally hack up his chains and still file better than me!
Good stuff. Please keep it comin'
Very cool.
Man this gave me some anxiety.. Felt like I was up in the tree. I'm a weekend warrior on my propert, but climbing up big trees.. Nope. lol
Much respect man!

Loaded dog we all love you
Justin Blanchard...gday JB, hope your new little addition is doing well mate , love to you all...😎👍🇦🇺
Snowman we love you too buddy👍
Never done any climbing but totally get the part about easing down using your arm and gently dropping the strap so as not to put big shocks into the wood rather than bouncing back against the strap as you walk down, Good safe advice right there, bugger I want to be younger and fitter and start climbing.
hugh381 good morning,
SNOWMAN66 How's it going man, are you taking Snowboy to Buckinstock? Wish I was going, got to get some footage for us all mate.

The very best most professional work I’ve ever seen with a chainsaw!Keep the videos coming
Hi Buckin great job a good video buddy
Thats how I file a chain and it works good on softwood but can have a bit of a problem on hardwood and will require some touch up filing about midday. This is funny that you are experimenting with the way I do it and I am trying your ways at the same time. Never too old to learn and experiment (evolution of a logger ) (LOL)
Hello and welcome to the NewSubs, BBR, TrueBlues, Mediators and all Soldiers of Kindness!Wish you all an outstanding weekend! Be safe!
Gday Peter .... love from 🇦🇺 to 🇩🇪 mate....😎👍🇦🇺
Loaded dog : Thanks to you "down under", bud!
I see ya Peter,Good morning kind sir..
Cynthia Herr : Good to see you again, Cynthia! You could do me a very big favour if you wouldn't "sir" me. Being old is not my fault. Rather my parents. 😉 Thank you very much in advance, you 'good soul of our community' - as not only I see you!
Okey Dokey Peter, No more sir, I promise..I agree cause being called Ma'am would be the same with the girl's
and I too find it not very comforting as well, Aww and thank's for the kind word's, Have a great Sunday my friend..
BE KIND!
bobe8888 good morning! Thank you for being here
It helps the sawdust break up and flow out better. Also helps giving tooth better hook.
Austin Denotter It would most certainly give you more hook.👍
Definitely the linkage flexing.
Buckin is a legendary logger because it’s a fact because I’m his brother and soldier of kindness
Some of these new saddles are very comfy yet still rugged BBR. Victor which SpiderJack did u try? Be real cool if we could try a lot of this new gear before we buy in a lot of cases just once up and down a Tree can tell u a lot. Have a great nite friends
Damon Reuning 2.1. Never in a sappy tree again.
clean it with rubbing alcohol and use Ballistol oil it's safe for the rope and yes use a false crotch
That saws going to be nuts once I sort out the situation with the wrap and the antivibe mounts!, can't wait to run it beside my 4900!
Great video mate 👍👍
Nice video does the new belt help you with the back the 5200 has reeds install carbon fiber reeds
tim freeman thank you for your presence and contribution
Tim do you have a link for the CF Reeds?
Boyesen reeds you may have to call or email they may have to make them
Sad to see the trees do that.
Michael Remski good morning
UNFORTUNATELY YES
Good morning to you too.
Ahh that's no good. The condition of the one you were climbing was disturbing. You said something about "a few months ago" the trees were fine or at least not dead? I'm guessing the beetle came in from elsewhere, and there are no natural enemies. Is it sticking with the balsams or jumping to other firs?
You should buy a silky handsaw for climbing buckin!!
always interesting.......thank you for sharing.
"I am in no hurry,I am at peace." Didn't hear it in this video but I'm figuring you have other ways of dealing with stress, Buck. Maybe just another thing you have a knack for?
It seems to me that all saw mfrs made awesome saws at one point. Just goes to show how important research and development is. Never rest.
👌
Se parece a mi,pero en güerito..
How did you like that bar compared to the Oregon reduced weight bar?
Happy sunday friends. Now i have to try that 3/16 file thanks buckin or Cletus hehehe love ya
23:37 - Buckin’ you’re a beast!
appears to cut a cleaner tighter kerf, but not any faster? Victor, picked up rock exotica unicender a few weeks back, only used it half dozen times srt base tie and ddrt on some fir dead limb clean up pruning. Seen Travor Ahern using it quite a bit, cuz it can bit put on & off rope mid line for change up tie in.
Hi buckin again, do you think when time permits you could do a “novice” carb tuning basic video? Luv ya stuff 👍🏻👍🏻 from aus
An old man once told me they are called Poulans because you’re always pulling on them 😆
MooMan86 to get them started just like a husky - pain in the ass
NICE WORK BOY'S 👍😎

🌳Greg Brown🌳
WHY THANK YOU KIND SIR YOU GUYS ARE TRULY "THE SOLDIERS OF KINDNESS" 👍😎
Buckin,
I had a quick question that I was curious if you had ever discussed. With your love of Husqvarna, McCulloch, Homelite, and the occasional old Poulan, Why do you use the smaller Stihl trimming saws when you are climbing? Do you find that Stihl makes a better single hand saw? Just curious and your thoughts on it! Take care!!
cant beat the 200t
