  • After days of rain & gloom, it finally began to clear up and the sun was out today; though it was still chilly. Today was not the first time I walked North Beach but it was the first time I recorded my walk. It was a glorious day to do that- take in the clear skies and soak up the sun! I filmed this video after I checked out the new Central Subway. There was a grand opening celebration yesterday but I skipped it because of the rain and I really try to avoid big crowds still.
I have known this area by its district name - North Beach and it’s just been a few years since I found out that there’s an enclave known as Little Italy, lol! When I first came to San Francisco, I thought it was still part of Chinatown so I discovered Little Italy by accident only. It’s a lovely area to walk around especially in the Washington Square Park area where the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church is also situated. Now I wonder what special relationship do Peter & Paul have that they have to share equal credits on the church’s name? Don’t get me wrong, I kinda know the story of St. Paul as he is one of my favorite saints and the Book of Corinthians is my favorite to read after Jesus’ life.
Anyway, Little Italy or North Beach in general is a lovely neighborhood to visit- lots of Italian restaurants, safe to walk day or night & very accessible as it is close to almost everything (I’m talking about Union Square, Coit Tower, Chinatown, etc.).
As you can tell from my video, I zigzagged my way through different streets, alleys and sidewalks, lol. What’s so nice about not having a real plan when I travel or walk is that I get to discover a little bit of everything. I saw a man selling vintage stuffs on the street, restaurants, smelled pizzas, pastas, cheeses and other interesting things. It’s not a waste of time when you’re having fun. I also had gelato for the first time. It was good but not memorable.
I have a lot more beautiful things to write about North Beach but for now I have to take a break and will come back for more. I highly recommend this part of San Francisco- it’s a must when you visit SF! Ciao!

North Beach is beautiful, but it isn't a beach at all. It's a neighborhood in San Francisco that's referred to as "Little Italy", because Italian immigrants made it their home in the old days. My family, my friends and I are all Italian American citizens and we're all native San Franciscans who find it culturally interesting. 🥂 Did you eat at United States Restaurant? It's full of delicious Italian food and you'll be in for a treat, LOL. You seemed to enjoy visiting Saint Peter & Paul's Church very much. My family and my grandparent's friends got married there a long time ago. Those were the days.

Nice video but I gotta call out in your description you say "I found out that there’s an enclave known as Little Italy". it's not called "Little Italy". It's North Beach. It's far more than just an italian neighborhood. It's was home to the beatnik movement, to the west coast jazz scene, and much more.

Thank you for this, Frank! I'm still a relatively new SF transplant and I still have a lot to learn about the city and its districts and I appreciate sharing your expertise.

My son is playing it as I write this. The city is much bugger than the game would have you believe. But it’s beautiful here.
