Thanks so much for this video. I love all of your videos and learn so much from them. U.S. Grant is one of my heros...and there are only a handful of people that I say that about. The more I have read about his life, the more I have come to respect him. It's so easy for revisionists to cast aspersions on his leadership decisions during the Civil War without considering all of the complexities of the times. They (the critics) have the luxury of 150 years of hindsight but he had no such luxury. He had to make his decisions in the moment with the best information available. Did he make mistakes? You bet he did, as have all of us. But he learned from his mistakes and moved on to the best of his ability.
And to add one more thing to my remarks above, I want to quote General Grant's good friend General William Tecumseh Sherman, "It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell. War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want."

It is always interesting to hear all the little details involved in these historical places. Several years ago I remember visiting a house in Bonita, California built by Ulysses S. Grant Jr. in 1894, and the Grant family was involved in the building of the U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego in the early 1900's. I wonder why they decided to head West?

My Grate Great Grandfather joined the Civil War in Georgetown and is Buried in Bethel OH he has a Civil War Grave Headstone.
