Though I agree that the pixies way outclass the hydras, the three headed hydra variant is way better than the *random effect* single headed hydra variants.
If you want to run a good hydra spell, try the haunting hydra. It scales off of spell dmg and companion dmg and lasts 8 secs. It’s a hydra that flies around zapping things. Or the sigil hydra due to is spAwns 4 individual hydras that count as four stacks.
@@seankun11 three headed hydras are not the strongest companions ,pixie hydras are. Although you have three heads it only counts as one stack. But as a pet build you shouldn’t be using just one. I rotate pixies and hydras.
So I tried a bunch and I do still really like the pixie shotguns, because the pixie keep the shooting pattern of the original gun, I have a pixie with a 140x11 base hit, which is then scaled like crazy by everything else. It does take a lot of ammo but if you find one with a really low mag size it's still manageable as it kills everything too fast to run out of ammo.
@@hstorm123gaming3 well yes it does spell damage, but the base damage to that spell and their cast speed is the same as the gun's base damage and their fire rate.
This matches my experience with my graveborn/spore warden play through. I kept trying to up my faithful thralls with hydras, but found the pixies to be too good to not use.
One really nice interaction I've found, if you're using the buffmeister as your offhand ambihextrous spell and you get a x2 Queen's Cry with tasers, the taser damage is absolutely insane.
You may be throwing to often, you can only have 3 pixies at a time and I noticed your pixies are popping in the air instead of divebombing which suggests you are not utilizing each pixie as long as you can.
Thats the theme with most of the Tubers for our Border/Wonder community. They just copy and paste the things datamined by the players and showcase them off as their own findings but does so very wrongly haha
What I've found to be optimal is using the pixie pistols combined with the elemental blast spells that spawn hydras on impact. That way you're getting the spell damage from the pixies along with big stacks of faithful thralls

I tested it very briefly with Quiver of Holding on three-headed hydras and it looked like it barely made a difference. Do you have any numbers for the difference it made for you? I may have to look into that again. Interestingly enough I like Hydras way more than Pixies haha

I played from lvl 5 to lvl 40 high chaos chucking tediores on my first playthrough. Feriore is so good. My favourite ones are the throw lightning bolt that summons a hydra
Pixies RULE! Been using those since I got the game but when ever I ask people in discord about them no one seems to have ever heard of them. Love that they hit for a ton of damage and fly through obsticals and the Fearnot reload is insane. I just keep firing even though nothing is there to attack just to keep my Pixie count up. What would you recommend using for your snap build? I’ve been using guns with wings as a way to still be able to stack faithful thralls for the spell damage buff since pixies do not take advantage of this
Started with deadshot and have been using the fearnot since right after I beat the campaign. Just got lucky and found a corrosive one and it shredded everything. Tried to tell people they were insane but glad to see they are finally getting discovered.
It's hard to get solid data off the video as the hydra guns used need to be 3 headed hydra guns. They shoot faster and do more damage. You can also only have 3 pixies out at a time, while you can have something like 7 to 9 hydras out at any given time. So 1 for 1 pixie are probably stronger but hydras overall, fully stacked, are much likely to be a lot stronger as they also have a lot of effects on gear that work with them such as teleporting them and increasing their duration, etc.
True. It just comes down to usage. Pixies phasing through obstacles outweighs the teleportation on my build and even though they do t teleport I have tested that they do increase the duration. Not sure if it was intended but I does extend it Specifically for certain boss fights that may be longer it helps to conserve precious ammo in some scenarios.
I want some legendary feriore that spawn with the guns-with-wings reload. Been using them to proc the spellshot capstone a lot, along with having then stack faithful thralls for me
I like the guns with wings and pixies, myself. They don't care about walls and boundaries, while the hydras firing from ground level tend to shoot scenery more than mobs.
Yeah moxsy, idk if you'll read this but you can get the x4 bullet ice smg (the good one) with the pixie companion. I got a chaotic variant it's pretty good
I could see a good companion build using the hydra Fearnot to stack faithful squalls, then switching over to throwing crossbow pixies everywhere for massive damage.

I can't seem to get into this one as much as i am into borderlands 3. Is there like a point you have to reach in the game before it starts feeling better ? For now i just feel like the boss fight are scarce and pretty deceiving. And the enemies are repetitive... :S
I've been doing a pixie spell shot build for a while now and fun tip the buff Meister works on companions too so you can scale the damage to even more insane extents

I was messing around with the hydras and found out that you can have only a total amount of 6 hydras summoned at once, both through spells and guns. However, dark hydras can pass that limit, and flying guns can add to it too without discarding existing hydras. So in theory with Graveborn & Spore Warden: 6 hydras + 2 companions + 3 dark hydras + 3 flying guns = 14 stacks for Faithful Thralls. Same can be done with pixie guns, just won't get the stacks for Faithful Thralls.
No I’ve had way more than 6 hydras spawned before. My spell summons 3 and I use a corrosive Fearnot with a 3 headed hydra summon. I throw those things out like candy
@@LiLxF310N three headed hydras count as 1 summon, so technically you can have 6 multi-headed hydras spawned at once. Ive tried it with a mix of spells and guns and got the same results, only six hydras summoned at one time.

@@LiLxF310N I have a repeating hydra spell with two charges, each charge summons 6 hydras, when i use the spell a second time after the first, the first six disappear. Same thing happens when i use one charge and throw weapon for hydra, it replaces one othe hydras still maintaining six hydras up. But you can still use flying guns and pixies without sacrificing hydras. I believe six is the max amount of hydras regardless of source.
I've tried a bunch of different queen's cry guns and the best one is the taser varient. It has the most uptime on the secondary firing mode and it's completely broken when combined with the buffmeister. You literally just shoot the ground and everything dissapears.
So do the deodand, heirloom and knicknack smg's scale with spell dmg? I had a x4 deodand one that spawned pixies and it tore through chaos 35. Imagine if it was Primordial? Basically the offspring od Nightshade and Fearnot lol but anyways. I recently I found a Primordial fearnot pixie with x2 so I had to get rid of the deodand😥 and the nickknack smg can spawn with pixies as well as a x2 multiplier on the guns base dmg.
I run a companions build and yes ammo is a down fall , however I pop on armor with a high exorbitant value and shoot the ground at my feet and full ammo again.
Im not into end game stuff yet but I'm finishing up the campaign at level 40 and I've been loving the Doodad SMG and Bloodshot Shotguns. I'm running Grave/Spore so I'm just tossing out all of the companions and most of the time I don't even have to shoot enemies.
Use the spell that cast on owner hydra companions. It melts everything along with the weapon thrown. And I use the calamity frost spell to do massive damage.
You get 3 gun summons, 3 spell summons*, plus 2 trait summons, bringing you up to 8 for Faithful Thralls. Also, I'd recommend throwing out your gun after hitting max gun summons only if you need to reposition them. * i havent tried to get above 3 spell summons due to lack of spells that would let me test that. Clarification or confirmation would be delightful, for anyone with the option.
I'm still rocking my morticulturalist... but debating to change. Takes forever to kill stuff at chaos 20. I've been using hydras to up thepassive bonuses.... wish I could say it's going better. Before I make any significant build changes, I'll try out these pistols again to see if i get better results though.
the smg that has the x4 frost with pixie the pixie actually copies the firing of the thrown gun as well so those can proc the status for your stabbomancer DoT build
I was playing tonight and got the most infuriating ridiculous mission in the game and that is the "A Small Favour" quest. Fighting the giant Skeleton boss at the end is beyond a joke. I am a Spellshot and just freshly multi-classed into Graveborne today but I continually died on that quest and had to quit out. I had an ice SMG and an ice spell and a dark magic spell equipped and I feel ridiculously weak always going down. The boss was throwing a wave move at me, then 4 circle areas on me to evade then started blasting green skulls at me straight after and then if that wasn't enough swiped a giant sword at me. I feel so weak as the Spellshot against it, especially when I'm using ice based things which skeletons are most vulnerable to and it wad barely chipping away at it's health, but I would get downed instantly if I was hit by one or 2 things. The other super frustrating thing about this fight too is that there are no ads, it spawns in 2 little mushroom guys in what feels like once every 2 hours, and the bosses own wave move can kill the ads (from what I personally saw whilst in the fight) so if the boss kills the only 2 ads it spawn in every long pause between them then it screws me. So many times I went down in this fight and there were no ads for me to kill to get back up so I just had to sit there and die because my weapons and spells weren't even doing the job they should have been on the boss. It was honestly ridiculous and so frustrating, especially when there were the 2 ads that spawn in, I went down, killed them and got back up and as soon as I got up a bunch of green skulls flew at me literally before I could move out of the way of them, then I was instantly downed again with no ads and couldn't physically kill the boss in the time my countdown timer was going down (bearing in mind it goes down even quicker too after you have died several times already) so it felt impossible to do that I had to quit the map. I've never had to do that in a BL game before with an enemy but that fight just had so many things thrown at you all at once, and basically 0 ads for you to use to keep getting yourself back up and in the fight again. From what I've played so far in this game anyway I feel like picking Spellshot to start with was a mistake because I can't help but just feel so weak sometimes even when I have decent gear equipped. My spells don't feel impactful to the point I could rely on them completely either as they are on cooldowns and I have found myself in a lot battles having to just keep running away and then turning around to fire off spells and guns and run again before I have about 20 enemies all on top of me hitting me and about 5 mortar enemies further back bombing me, it's relentless and I feel Spellshot hasn't lived up to the hype for me, which is sorely disappointing considering I wanted to take a magic approach to this game seeing as I've played plenty of BL and used plenty of guns in those games to justify going for the magi approach, yet I was just back in BL 3 heavily relying in my guns because the magic side of it was ridiculous. Its also incredible hard I find to compare all the different types of spells. Descriptions don't really explain what each of them do, you can only get a bit of an inkling of the type of attack from the cover of the spellbook when inspecting the item, but then its hard to know what is truly better than other manufacturers etc when it comes to magic as all stats can be red compared to what I am currently using, but then the gear score and sale price is high because it's supposedly good. They could have taken more time to focus on magic and also implement a better system for it overall I feel, as it still feels secondary to guns as opposed to on par with them, and I feel they should at least be on par if guns have to be so heavily featured in it. Definitley takes me out of the fantasy genre though having to use rocket launchers and things though when my spells aren't cutting it. I've used more powerful grenades in BL than a lot of the spells in WL, and that's all it really is in terms of the grenade slot from BL being replaced by spells for WL. I am just really conflicted and not having as good a time as I hoped with this game so far, which is really saddening to me because I really wanted to get behind it so much but I feel they've failed to sell me this fantasy around D&D so far. I hope it picks up for me but at this point I can't tell if it will or not. May just have to restart and go something that's not Spellshot or magic based, and just give into the guns completely as per BL.
I prefer SMG 3 Headed Hydras. Since the Hydras spit out ammo halfway through their summon for EACH HEAD (albeit random ammo), I only ever go below 1000 smg ammo on very long drawn out fights (such as the 1 Chaos trial that I took Elemental Overload and the boss wound up immune to Dark Magic damage taking away like 70% of my damage output.... still beat him without going into Save My Soul though.)
Two drawbacks to pixies, they don't count as companions and they can proc blast gasp. For hydras, the do count as companion but can proc blast gasp. While you may be thinking getting a blast gasp proc is good, it isn't when it's off your pixie or hydra, since they are very undertuned from your spellshots actual overall magic stats +gear, you are wasting a ton of dps. Still better to rock bats with wings, they count as a companion (at least for fateful thralls) and don't count as magic damage and won't proc blast gasp. You only want to proc blast gasp off your spells you cast, this way you can make the most of your overall class and spell damage and not waste a proc on a low tuned pixie/hydra. For mobbing, pixie/hydra is fine, but bossing, more specifically raid bossing, complete waste of dps to proc a blast gasp on your weapon rather than your spellshot.

Not sure if they benefit even more from clawbringer passive which any increase to fatemaker damage also apply to companions, but it feels like it does and running hexecutioner (spellshot sub) with pixies is clawbringers saving grace as you can spec mostly claw tree and still do lots of damage, and even kill your teammates online with storm smite accidentally which is another L we take 🙃

Idk what kind of glitch this is but the gun with wings can go through walls. Also found out that it can proc the spell shot capstone a lot better than pixie can.

the hydra summon spell can spawn another each time it hits a boss and if you get spell crit pershot with stabo it basically infinitely spawns hydras until the fight is done...
I run the ice spike build and yet I've come to the realization that the barf bunnies cannot at all drop the version of the Ice Spike that we use for the build. I've done countless runs leaving with 10+ crystals and haven't gotten even a single Impaling Ice Spike from the bunnies. I'm currently running with a regular one that does almost 1500dmg and I want a chaotic or volatile version already. So besides venders. How can I get one?
Can you maybe do a guide on what exactly affects companions? For example I'm trying to put together a Clawbringer/Sporewarden combo that focuses on buffing the Wyvern as much as possible, and I'm curious if the Sporewarden's Affinity skill (boosts Abilty damage 9% per rank) will boost my wvern since it's breath attacks deal ability damage. Also have no fucking clue what main stats to go with, maxed Strength and Wisdom just to be safe.
cryo fearnot for hydra is waaay too op for this list, i did chaos runs from 1-15 (until i got level 40 weapon, it was lvl 36) and it still dealt with any enemy in the game, and keep in mind that i was using solid gear. not something you might call a build, but the hyda comps can wreak havoc in the chaos runs if you know what your doing.
All this time I thought the Hydras were 'S' tier. The Pixies are hitting very hard and they have no issue with line-of-sight. [Sporewarden/ Graveborn build]. I recommend Pixies if you're currently using Hydras.
Is the faithful thrall skill bugged? When I play I can consistently get higher than 12 companions but sometimes the stack just stops going up. Like it’ll be at 8 one time, 11 another and even when I’m pumping out hydras it just stays at that number.
My "minion" build is the bloodshot pixie shotgun 139×16- mines poison- plus other stuff. But I throw 4 times, then empty the mag naturally into the enemy. SHREDS
So as my main build I'm a clawbringer/sporewarden focusing on elemental/companion damage so my question is do the fear not guns increase my pets damage and not just the pixies?
The whatnot pistol with winged guns are cracked in my experience, just hold down shoot and let the damage all round smash everything, note im not yet in chaos levels but it's absolutely smashing insane difficulty, also I have like every item enchanted with on spell cast gain 30% gun damage, throw out and shoot everything easily killing badasses and bosses in seconds
@@HoneyBadgerVideos that's okay anyways, I got different worded ones anyhow, still good to know tho, the only stacked enchants I have are 2 guns with 15 percent all dmg on spell cast, the rest are worded different
demi-lich / dark hydra is nuking everything with spell spam due to the harvest bug. you can't do these tests unless you log out/quit every time otherwise your harvest keeps scaling up. the buff never resets back to 0, basically, until relogging, and goes way over 2. 3-head hydra > pixie imo. especially 4+4 charge spell spam w/lich deletes anything in game even after 1 chaos run due to number of kills. my guess is they balanced grave dps off of the bug because with only 2 harvest it is ridiculously low dps even with full volatile companion gear, clear times double or triple w/o talenting into harvest. running three featureds back to back my clear time for the 3rd was 1/4th as my 1st clear, second was 1/3
So there's something I'm wondering about the Fediore companion weapons that hopefully you could answer: - Do the reloads actually do more damage when reloaded with a full clip, or does remaining ammo not actually affect anything? The reason I ask is because I noticed they don't do damage on the initial explosion like what you would normally expect from a Tediore weapon in previous games.
I have to say it is disappointing that the two classes i currently play (companion + deadshot) are relying heavily on blast gasp for the burst :| not to say other builds can't work, but more that they won't clear near as fast.
Wonder if it's more worth switching out Faithful Thralls for more points into Dark Pact, Stain of the Soul or Harvest if you're running pixies. Especially if you're running Dark Magic spells.
There's nothing stopping you from switch to Hydra's when you hit the Pixies cap of 3. Getting out 3 hydras is a 27% damage increase for a total of 36% with Demi Lich. There's also Sigils that summon 3 hydras for when you want to put all your eggs in one basket
@@katchenz1735 I mean trying to keep up companions from two guns is way too much of a hassle for me personally. While hydras are better for spells and Blast Gasp by working with Faithful Thralls and in turn boosting spell and ability damage massively, the damage of the pixies seem crazy enough to warrant using them instead until they're nerfed. When they do get nerfed hopefully they'll make them work with Thralls as I much prefer flying companions.
I would never take points out of faithful thralls for any reason even if you're running a pixie gun you can still generate plenty of companions using various spells or alternating with a hydra gun
I dont know the name of the classmod but there is a mod that transform all dmg dealt by companions into frost dmg and i think it also increases frost dmg by 50%
Nice. Still prefer the multi headed hydra though as I like to actually kill things myself when I play a game. The damage output is still nice and with faithful thralls spells hit like a truck. Running around reloading and watching stuff die sounds about as fun as sitting atop iron bear watching it clear the takedown.
Try a shot gun beam pixie combo if you can find. They absolutely spread. It's shotgun esc damage as a beam from the pixie companion. They rare but it's worth it.
I’m wondering if the double damage somehow has to do with maybe the enemies having two different hitboxes. One for body on most enemies, and one for head. Most spells I feel only hit one of them. But the ice spike comes up from beneath and might hit both body and head (or critical hit box). Just an idea
Honestly that's genuinely a good idea and if it's correct there's a certain legendary gun that would work the same I can't remember the name but it shoots two lasers in an x pattern and has an absolutely massive hitbox From the green raid boss rune I found it has one large Square hitbox so it should do something similar if you hit it in the right place
Yo Moxsy i have a blue volatile cryo fearnot with x2 pellets. Idk if you’re opposed to getting gear from other people or not but i’d be happy to give you one if you wanna throw it onto the save file
fearnot also has a version that explodes on dmg calling down a lightning bolt, that shit SLAPS on mage builds, especially if you supe up your shock damamge
i think the spellshot capstone thing is bugged and it’s not rlly 15% or whatver it says bc it BARELY procs for me, going all cool down gets me more uptime with spells tbh, i play gacha games that have .001% chance for some characters and i pull more characters than proc last gasp with 1000 companions out 😭
They kind of already did. They got spell AND gun damage before the hotfix last week. Now they only get spell damage. They are just so good that nobody noticed the damage loss XD
@@AnthonyBerryman-sc3ew Some pixies do spell damage, and some do gun damage (it depends on the parts). Before last week, pixies that dealt spell damage also received gun damage boosts. After the hotfix that changed.
All I ever eused from the day I got a Pixie gun. I NEVER shoot. I have 0 spell damage. All companion even know they aren't based on it, just because it was originally a hydra build -- but it works.

You are absolutely right. I also mentioned in one of his last videos, that he is throwing them way too fast. This hurts his ammo and dps a lot.

The added benefit of hydras is they drop a bunch of ammo to replace what you are throwing away. For your team as well.

It's hard to get solid data off the video as the hydra guns used need to be 3 headed hydra guns. They shoot faster and do more damage. You can also only have 3 pixies out at a time, while you can have something like 7 to 9 hydras out at any given time. So 1 for 1 pixie are probably stronger but hydras overall, fully stacked, are much likely to be a lot stronger as they also have a lot of effects on gear that work with them such as teleporting them and increasing their duration, etc.
True. It just comes down to usage. Pixies phasing through obstacles outweighs the teleportation on my build and even though they do t teleport I have tested that they do increase the duration. Not sure if it was intended but I does extend it Specifically for certain boss fights that may be longer it helps to conserve precious ammo in some scenarios.
I want some legendary feriore that spawn with the guns-with-wings reload. Been using them to proc the spellshot capstone a lot, along with having then stack faithful thralls for me
I like the guns with wings and pixies, myself. They don't care about walls and boundaries, while the hydras firing from ground level tend to shoot scenery more than mobs.

Yeah moxsy, idk if you'll read this but you can get the x4 bullet ice smg (the good one) with the pixie companion. I got a chaotic variant it's pretty good
I could see a good companion build using the hydra Fearnot to stack faithful squalls, then switching over to throwing crossbow pixies everywhere for massive damage.

I can't seem to get into this one as much as i am into borderlands 3. Is there like a point you have to reach in the game before it starts feeling better ? For now i just feel like the boss fight are scarce and pretty deceiving. And the enemies are repetitive... :S

I was messing around with the hydras and found out that you can have only a total amount of 6 hydras summoned at once, both through spells and guns. However, dark hydras can pass that limit, and flying guns can add to it too without discarding existing hydras. So in theory with Graveborn & Spore Warden: 6 hydras + 2 companions + 3 dark hydras + 3 flying guns = 14 stacks for Faithful Thralls. Same can be done with pixie guns, just won't get the stacks for Faithful Thralls.
No I’ve had way more than 6 hydras spawned before. My spell summons 3 and I use a corrosive Fearnot with a 3 headed hydra summon. I throw those things out like candy
@@LiLxF310N three headed hydras count as 1 summon, so technically you can have 6 multi-headed hydras spawned at once. Ive tried it with a mix of spells and guns and got the same results, only six hydras summoned at one time.

@@LiLxF310N I have a repeating hydra spell with two charges, each charge summons 6 hydras, when i use the spell a second time after the first, the first six disappear. Same thing happens when i use one charge and throw weapon for hydra, it replaces one othe hydras still maintaining six hydras up. But you can still use flying guns and pixies without sacrificing hydras. I believe six is the max amount of hydras regardless of source.

I've tried a bunch of different queen's cry guns and the best one is the taser varient. It has the most uptime on the secondary firing mode and it's completely broken when combined with the buffmeister. You literally just shoot the ground and everything dissapears.

So do the deodand, heirloom and knicknack smg's scale with spell dmg? I had a x4 deodand one that spawned pixies and it tore through chaos 35. Imagine if it was Primordial? Basically the offspring od Nightshade and Fearnot lol but anyways. I recently I found a Primordial fearnot pixie with x2 so I had to get rid of the deodand😥 and the nickknack smg can spawn with pixies as well as a x2 multiplier on the guns base dmg.
I run a companions build and yes ammo is a down fall , however I pop on armor with a high exorbitant value and shoot the ground at my feet and full ammo again.

Im not into end game stuff yet but I'm finishing up the campaign at level 40 and I've been loving the Doodad SMG and Bloodshot Shotguns. I'm running Grave/Spore so I'm just tossing out all of the companions and most of the time I don't even have to shoot enemies.
Use the spell that cast on owner hydra companions. It melts everything along with the weapon thrown. And I use the calamity frost spell to do massive damage.
You get 3 gun summons, 3 spell summons*, plus 2 trait summons, bringing you up to 8 for Faithful Thralls.
Also, I'd recommend throwing out your gun after hitting max gun summons only if you need to reposition them.
* i havent tried to get above 3 spell summons due to lack of spells that would let me test that. Clarification or confirmation would be delightful, for anyone with the option.
I'm still rocking my morticulturalist... but debating to change. Takes forever to kill stuff at chaos 20. I've been using hydras to up thepassive bonuses.... wish I could say it's going better. Before I make any significant build changes, I'll try out these pistols again to see if i get better results though.
the smg that has the x4 frost with pixie the pixie actually copies the firing of the thrown gun as well so those can proc the status for your stabbomancer DoT build
I use them to constantly reset spell cooldowns on spellshot since an extra 3 guns firing x4 projectiles at full auto just fills the screen with crits.
I was playing tonight and got the most infuriating ridiculous mission in the game and that is the "A Small Favour" quest. Fighting the giant Skeleton boss at the end is beyond a joke. I am a Spellshot and just freshly multi-classed into Graveborne today but I continually died on that quest and had to quit out. I had an ice SMG and an ice spell and a dark magic spell equipped and I feel ridiculously weak always going down. The boss was throwing a wave move at me, then 4 circle areas on me to evade then started blasting green skulls at me straight after and then if that wasn't enough swiped a giant sword at me. I feel so weak as the Spellshot against it, especially when I'm using ice based things which skeletons are most vulnerable to and it wad barely chipping away at it's health, but I would get downed instantly if I was hit by one or 2 things. The other super frustrating thing about this fight too is that there are no ads, it spawns in 2 little mushroom guys in what feels like once every 2 hours, and the bosses own wave move can kill the ads (from what I personally saw whilst in the fight) so if the boss kills the only 2 ads it spawn in every long pause between them then it screws me. So many times I went down in this fight and there were no ads for me to kill to get back up so I just had to sit there and die because my weapons and spells weren't even doing the job they should have been on the boss. It was honestly ridiculous and so frustrating, especially when there were the 2 ads that spawn in, I went down, killed them and got back up and as soon as I got up a bunch of green skulls flew at me literally before I could move out of the way of them, then I was instantly downed again with no ads and couldn't physically kill the boss in the time my countdown timer was going down (bearing in mind it goes down even quicker too after you have died several times already) so it felt impossible to do that I had to quit the map. I've never had to do that in a BL game before with an enemy but that fight just had so many things thrown at you all at once, and basically 0 ads for you to use to keep getting yourself back up and in the fight again. From what I've played so far in this game anyway I feel like picking Spellshot to start with was a mistake because I can't help but just feel so weak sometimes even when I have decent gear equipped. My spells don't feel impactful to the point I could rely on them completely either as they are on cooldowns and I have found myself in a lot battles having to just keep running away and then turning around to fire off spells and guns and run again before I have about 20 enemies all on top of me hitting me and about 5 mortar enemies further back bombing me, it's relentless and I feel Spellshot hasn't lived up to the hype for me, which is sorely disappointing considering I wanted to take a magic approach to this game seeing as I've played plenty of BL and used plenty of guns in those games to justify going for the magi approach, yet I was just back in BL 3 heavily relying in my guns because the magic side of it was ridiculous. Its also incredible hard I find to compare all the different types of spells. Descriptions don't really explain what each of them do, you can only get a bit of an inkling of the type of attack from the cover of the spellbook when inspecting the item, but then its hard to know what is truly better than other manufacturers etc when it comes to magic as all stats can be red compared to what I am currently using, but then the gear score and sale price is high because it's supposedly good. They could have taken more time to focus on magic and also implement a better system for it overall I feel, as it still feels secondary to guns as opposed to on par with them, and I feel they should at least be on par if guns have to be so heavily featured in it. Definitley takes me out of the fantasy genre though having to use rocket launchers and things though when my spells aren't cutting it. I've used more powerful grenades in BL than a lot of the spells in WL, and that's all it really is in terms of the grenade slot from BL being replaced by spells for WL. I am just really conflicted and not having as good a time as I hoped with this game so far, which is really saddening to me because I really wanted to get behind it so much but I feel they've failed to sell me this fantasy around D&D so far. I hope it picks up for me but at this point I can't tell if it will or not. May just have to restart and go something that's not Spellshot or magic based, and just give into the guns completely as per BL.
I prefer SMG 3 Headed Hydras. Since the Hydras spit out ammo halfway through their summon for EACH HEAD (albeit random ammo), I only ever go below 1000 smg ammo on very long drawn out fights (such as the 1 Chaos trial that I took Elemental Overload and the boss wound up immune to Dark Magic damage taking away like 70% of my damage output.... still beat him without going into Save My Soul though.)
Two drawbacks to pixies, they don't count as companions and they can proc blast gasp. For hydras, the do count as companion but can proc blast gasp. While you may be thinking getting a blast gasp proc is good, it isn't when it's off your pixie or hydra, since they are very undertuned from your spellshots actual overall magic stats +gear, you are wasting a ton of dps.
Still better to rock bats with wings, they count as a companion (at least for fateful thralls) and don't count as magic damage and won't proc blast gasp.
You only want to proc blast gasp off your spells you cast, this way you can make the most of your overall class and spell damage and not waste a proc on a low tuned pixie/hydra.
For mobbing, pixie/hydra is fine, but bossing, more specifically raid bossing, complete waste of dps to proc a blast gasp on your weapon rather than your spellshot.
Do would you still use faithful thrall if taking pixies? It makes sense for hydras.
if you’re graveborn yes 100% with the dark magic hydras spawned that’s a +27% all damage dealt modifier that will double dip with blast gasp

Not sure if they benefit even more from clawbringer passive which any increase to fatemaker damage also apply to companions, but it feels like it does and running hexecutioner (spellshot sub) with pixies is clawbringers saving grace as you can spec mostly claw tree and still do lots of damage, and even kill your teammates online with storm smite accidentally which is another L we take 🙃

Idk what kind of glitch this is but the gun with wings can go through walls. Also found out that it can proc the spell shot capstone a lot better than pixie can.

the hydra summon spell can spawn another each time it hits a boss and if you get spell crit pershot with stabo it basically infinitely spawns hydras until the fight is done...

FYI you can only have 3 pixies so u don't need to spam throw and pixels don't spawn with harvest they have to already be out to gain harvest stacks

I run the ice spike build and yet I've come to the realization that the barf bunnies cannot at all drop the version of the Ice Spike that we use for the build. I've done countless runs leaving with 10+ crystals and haven't gotten even a single Impaling Ice Spike from the bunnies. I'm currently running with a regular one that does almost 1500dmg and I want a chaotic or volatile version already. So besides venders. How can I get one?
Can you maybe do a guide on what exactly affects companions?
For example I'm trying to put together a Clawbringer/Sporewarden combo that focuses on buffing the Wyvern as much as possible, and I'm curious if the Sporewarden's Affinity skill (boosts Abilty damage 9% per rank) will boost my wvern since it's breath attacks deal ability damage.
Also have no fucking clue what main stats to go with, maxed Strength and Wisdom just to be safe.
cryo fearnot for hydra is waaay too op for this list, i did chaos runs from 1-15 (until i got level 40 weapon, it was lvl 36) and it still dealt with any enemy in the game, and keep in mind that i was using solid gear. not something you might call a build, but the hyda comps can wreak havoc in the chaos runs if you know what your doing.
With Queens Cry having meteors do spell damage, has anyone tested if the Catatumbo's lightning strikes do spell damagae?
All this time I thought the Hydras were 'S' tier. The Pixies are hitting very hard and they have no issue with line-of-sight. [Sporewarden/ Graveborn build]. I recommend Pixies if you're currently using Hydras.

Is the faithful thrall skill bugged? When I play I can consistently get higher than 12 companions but sometimes the stack just stops going up. Like it’ll be at 8 one time, 11 another and even when I’m pumping out hydras it just stays at that number.
My "minion" build is the bloodshot pixie shotgun 139×16- mines poison- plus other stuff. But I throw 4 times, then empty the mag naturally into the enemy.

The whatnot pistol with winged guns are cracked in my experience, just hold down shoot and let the damage all round smash everything, note im not yet in chaos levels but it's absolutely smashing insane difficulty, also I have like every item enchanted with on spell cast gain 30% gun damage, throw out and shoot everything easily killing badasses and bosses in seconds
same worded enchants do not stack.

demi-lich / dark hydra is nuking everything with spell spam due to the harvest bug. you can't do these tests unless you log out/quit every time otherwise your harvest keeps scaling up. the buff never resets back to 0, basically, until relogging, and goes way over 2. 3-head hydra > pixie imo. especially 4+4 charge spell spam w/lich deletes anything in game even after 1 chaos run due to number of kills. my guess is they balanced grave dps off of the bug because with only 2 harvest it is ridiculously low dps even with full volatile companion gear, clear times double or triple w/o talenting into harvest. running three featureds back to back my clear time for the 3rd was 1/4th as my 1st clear, second was 1/3

- Do the reloads actually do more damage when reloaded with a full clip, or does remaining ammo not actually affect anything?
The reason I ask is because I noticed they don't do damage on the initial explosion like what you would normally expect from a Tediore weapon in previous games.

I have to say it is disappointing that the two classes i currently play (companion + deadshot) are relying heavily on blast gasp for the burst :| not to say other builds can't work, but more that they won't clear near as fast.

Unfortunately not as they deal ability damage instead of spell damage.
Wonder if it's more worth switching out Faithful Thralls for more points into Dark Pact, Stain of the Soul or Harvest if you're running pixies. Especially if you're running Dark Magic spells.
There's nothing stopping you from switch to Hydra's when you hit the Pixies cap of 3. Getting out 3 hydras is a 27% damage increase for a total of 36% with Demi Lich. There's also Sigils that summon 3 hydras for when you want to put all your eggs in one basket
@@katchenz1735 I mean trying to keep up companions from two guns is way too much of a hassle for me personally.
While hydras are better for spells and Blast Gasp by working with Faithful Thralls and in turn boosting spell and ability damage massively, the damage of the pixies seem crazy enough to warrant using them instead until they're nerfed. When they do get nerfed hopefully they'll make them work with Thralls as I much prefer flying companions.
I would never take points out of faithful thralls for any reason
even if you're running a pixie gun you can still generate plenty of companions using various spells or alternating with a hydra gun
Personally I believe the queens cry is the best weapon for the spellshot
I dont know the name of the classmod but there is a mod that transform all dmg dealt by companions into frost dmg and i think it also increases frost dmg by 50%

Nice. Still prefer the multi headed hydra though as I like to actually kill things myself when I play a game. The damage output is still nice and with faithful thralls spells hit like a truck. Running around reloading and watching stuff die sounds about as fun as sitting atop iron bear watching it clear the takedown.

Try a shot gun beam pixie combo if you can find. They absolutely spread. It's shotgun esc damage as a beam from the pixie companion. They rare but it's worth it.

I’m wondering if the double damage somehow has to do with maybe the enemies having two different hitboxes. One for body on most enemies, and one for head. Most spells I feel only hit one of them. But the ice spike comes up from beneath and might hit both body and head (or critical hit box). Just an idea
Honestly that's genuinely a good idea and if it's correct there's a certain legendary gun that would work the same I can't remember the name but it shoots two lasers in an x pattern and has an absolutely massive hitbox
From the green raid boss rune I found it has one large Square hitbox so it should do something similar if you hit it in the right place
I do a mix of hydra/pixie; Crossbow are nice but since buff I still use smg/pistol/shotgun with a side of element I need often electricity lol

fearnot also has a version that explodes on dmg calling down a lightning bolt, that shit SLAPS on mage builds, especially if you supe up your shock damamge
If you run hydras you need to get the Head Of the Snake armor. Have it pull them to you and get health from kills

All I ever eused from the day I got a Pixie gun. I NEVER shoot. I have 0 spell damage. All companion even know they aren't based on it, just because it was originally a hydra build -- but it works.
Some Pixie guns do gun damage
Pixies do get companion damage. They just also get spell or gun on top.
