- HD Video footage of a horse riders encounter whilst out on a hack in Kent with an inconsiderate motorist, this motorist was driving too close behind this rider then he had the nerve to give the horse rider the middle finger, high vis and a head cam cant protect you from dangerous drivers but we can post this on facebook and youtube :-) most motorists are very considerate and polite but some motorists do not understand that horses can be easily spooked

when i stop for horses the riders tend to pick up speed.. it would be faster if drivers stoped for horses
it is easy for some people to say they cant get spooked but any horse can have there day of being scared and don't forget they are pray animal it is in there nature and were I am with horses they are all small roads and no were to get to paths until like 10 or so mins. and it might not be the car or what ever there could had been a fox running to wards it and every horse has something they hate example the horses I help look after hate goats they would not do anything but they are totally scared of them and you can do as much work and you just cant get it out of them

I hate to see drivers taking short cuts just to beat 'todays traffic' they should bloody stay on the main roads.
Yes all these drivers are like get the horses off the roads and this woman was clearly on a out of the way quiet road and she still had a bad encounter

Funnily enough - drivers have more of a right to be on the road than horses. We pay insurance, tax and a variety of other things to maintain our vehicles and insure they are road worthy and then Hermione and Tarquin pop out on a Sunday for some leisurely ‘trotting’ if you want to pay £535 tax like I do for my car on your horse and insure the unpredictable beasts then so be it. Until then, realise the road is predominantly for motorists
I do not ride any more. but in my rides on roads I just ignored traffic. I pay attention to my horse. I kept calm and so did she. a huge logging truck go by she was ok. I was told leave cars follow behind then they will pass and the horse will not care. we did not ride face traffic as oncoming traffic did scare them. mine was pretty good once they learnt the side is where we are to be. young ones were a bit hard training. you can not change drivers. so you think of the horse calming them. they do ok. mine did. but I no longer ride now.

That shouldnt even be a road, but horses also shouldnt be walked on hard surfaces like concrete or roads bc it can damage their hooves. Sometimes, they have no choice tho and have to take roads. But I bet the last thing the driver expected was there to be a horse, but they still shouldve slowed down I guess...

It is a minor country lane, any sensible UK driver would expect slow-moving farm vehicles, cyclists, hikers, dog walkers, horse riders, wildlife and even the odd escaped farm animal to be on such a road. Any driver stupid enough to drive these roads in excess of 30mile per hour is dangerous, horserider present or not, in some stretches, even 30mph is dangerous, that's a 60mph head-on collision if you meet something else coming around a bend. They are not built for heavy or fast traffic, there are plenty of wider, safer A and B roads that will get you to your destination in most places, but people like to short cut. Also, the issue with hard ground is the impact on joints, not hoof, most horses have shoes to prevent wear, not that it matters as hoof constantly grows and is intend to be worn down. I actually use boots that are a bit like trainers for my horse.

That's not the case. I ride a horse who can't hack out due to his problems when he was a younger pony, and he spooks at cars and tractors etc so he's never been out on hacks. That's what they should be doing these riders aren't doing anything wrong
Ok I agree with you. If they cannot be safely integrated with other traffic they shouldnt be on the road! If you want to get to a location where the horse can be ridden in safety use a trailer to get them there.
An example. If you had a dog that bites if frightened (a natural reaction for a hunting animal) would you walk it through a noisy croud of people?

One time I was riding my horse on the road and this douche in a uhaul truck honked at us to be funny. If my horse goes anywhere, he NEEDS to have the mini with him. She spooks at just about everything.
I only have one dislike from horse riders on roads where I like there are a lot and I have never came across a mean or angry one yet I mean my mother was a rider when she was younger but as a motorcycle rider there huge turds in the road on bendy roads are extremely dangerous for us riders besides that from my experiences I really don't mind them
Regardless of your opinion on whether horses should be on roads or not, if you do see one, it costs nothing to be a decent fucking human and not risk serious injury to the rider. Slow down. I’ve thankfully only encountered very considerate drivers when riding on roads, but some of the videos I’ve seen are really awful.

I strongly believe that horses shouldn't be on the road. Any other vehicle on the road is completely in control by the driver. Horses are animals and you can never have full control over an animal. They can be unpredictable and cause an accident even when the rider thinks they have control. Yes, horses were on the roads before cars, but now cars are on the roads and horses are just a hazard. Plus, with riding a horse on the road, there's 1 more life at risk... The horse's. Keep to bridal paths, fields and arenas, then you are no longer a hazard and both yours and the horse's life aren't at risk by a car hitting you.
if you dont like it keep your horses of the road it a lot safer that way and if you love your horses that much you would not ride on the road

Horses have equivalent status to cars on metalled roads in UK, and cars are required to slow down for them. Look up Highway Code.
