- During 1976 the Hare Krishna Movement in America was under severe attack from many fronts, one of them was the claim that were "brainwashing" young people to convert them to their cult.
As a result of this brainwashing claim the NYC District Attorney claimed that "A group like the Hare Krishnas could use mind control to create an army of zombies or robots against the government and law enforcement." And they charged the New York Temple President with "Brainwashing"...

The father's comments would almost be comical, if they were not so sad. His subtext was "she dressed conservatively, did not drink or take drugs, did not participate in illicit sex, or want to kill animals... all very foreign to us." People fear what they do not understand, and he is too close minded to see.

If someone doesn't believe (or tolerate) the concept of reincarnation, the Hare Krishna movement won't make a lot of sense to them.
The International Society For Krishna Consciousness exists to encourage unsuccessful transcendentalists to pursue the highest expression of God consciousness, Krishna Consciousness.
We will preach to anyone willing to listen, we will answer all pertinent questions, but it's a waste of time to debate a hostile party who cannot tolerate our regulative principles.
The four regulative principles are:
No meat, fish, or eggs. Meat eating destroys mercy.
No intoxication. Intoxication destroys discipline.
No gambling. Gambling destroys honesty.
No illicit sex. Illicit sex destroys cleanliness.
These principles are yogic principles, any sincere seeker is automatically attracted to them.
We understand that spiritual advancement is a continuum, that complete surrender to the Supreme Personality may take many, many births to achieve.
I suggest that any critic of ISKCON is an atheist opposed to any religious pursuit, and any restrictions of any religion. They just reserve their most extreme vitriol for ISKCON.

@@SneedEnjoyer I mean, I have been going on and off to ISKCON Houston and Gaudiya Math for years and years now and no one has ever pressured me to do anything, so that’s an interesting way for a “cult” to operate where the people there 24/7 don’t seem to give a shit besides liking you.
