The philosophies I was exposed to growing up was mostly buddhism and communism. I was raised on a psychedelic hippie commune called The Farm. These days I identify as right-wing with a strong libertarian streak, and consider myself an objectivist or empiricist. I've been enjoying this channel immensely and aim to digest every video.
Wow……why do you identify with all these external labels? Just curious…… Are you aware that by defining yourself as such, you leave yourself exposed to trying to trying conform to those labels to your own detriment? Even worse the people you associate with may try to impose the principles of those labels onto you even when you are sceptical. Best to have an open mind, keep learning, acknowledge evidence whilst remaining grounded in something meaning.
The study of philosophy enhances a person's problem-solving capacities. It helps us to analyze concepts, definitions, arguments, and problems. It contributes to our capacity to organize ideas and issues, to deal with questions of value, and to extract what is essential from large quantities of information.
Professor Kaplan does a good job at selling the how and why of Philosophy in his. "What is Philosophy? " first lecture, also his Plato's Euthyphro lecture is great. Personaly I feel it helps you be a better listner, more rational talker, and saves you time when your radar sences an intellectually dishonest person. Thanks for your work.
#24👍🤔In our current modern disposable culture where we no longer repair things that we once did but simply replace with new especially electronic devices. This ethic for repairing relationships is slipping in the same way. I find this in younger than age 60 people a corrosive action in society. Relationship is undervalued today compared to a generation ago. Simply because we don't depend on social ties to the degree we once did for survival.😢

20:40 I am embroiled in a twitter argument right now about "equality of opportunity" and it seems like this part kinda relates. I am saying that "equality of opportunity" is not really a thing that can be achieved. Take a non-politically correct example: I would say that I as a biological male do not have equality of opportunity in a career as a surrogate mother. Saying that equality of opportunity is an impossible goal in twitter is not a popular claim and my point is often being distorted right now in twitter as I post this.
