Great video! I have been looking for footage or photographs of this parade and the Easter parade that annually went down the original St. Patrick street from St. Clement to the Notre Dame Cathedral. Somebody must have filmed them!
Back in the 1950s, Montreal Rd. in Eastview (Vanier) was clearly more prosperous than it is now. Getting Vanier merged up with Ottawa didn't help the area as many expected it would.
We were a vibrant community but we had our problems. One of them being concentration. At one time Vanier/Eastview was the densest city in the world. Our teacher pointed it out to us in books when I was in school. When you consider the cemetery and a now developed woods to the north our little town was very crowded. I lived there from the late 50's to the mid 70's. As long as it remains simple and not some trending district that gets taken over and redeveloped because of it's proximity to downtown it will serve it's people well. There is also a more desirable area to Vanier as well. By the way one thing I remember was never having enough money. Slumlords pay as little tax as they can.

Yes, I have a vague memory of this parade.
