What a great little show! I personally like putting a little intentional black sky in the show to build anticipation and let some of the smoke clear out. The smoke seems to be more of a problem with consumer fireworks than with the pro stuff, and can sometimes amplify the light from the breaks and thus drown out effects like palms and willows. I always like to set off my 2' x 4' boards separately and treat each one like an individual display - each with their own mini finale (sometimes each board even has a "theme"). I leave a few minutes in-between each board to let the smoke clear and to build anticipation for the next one. I usually shoot off rockets and the large roman candles in-between boards. I don't like sky puke so always start each board out 1 cake at a time, and will sometimes bump it up to 2 cakes at once before going back to 1, and then a mini finale of 2 or 3 cakes alongside something like a 12-shot mortar rack. It equates to about 1.5 to 3 minutes per board. I can stretch my show to at least an hour and can even push an hour and a half using this method. It's perfect for neighborhood and backyard displays where it's just a bunch of neighbors, church folk, and family attending and wanting an entire evening to chillax in the grass.
Great show! I'm planning my 2020 July 4th display and I'm going to implement a lot of your tips from the "fusing segment" of your "how to" video. Thanks!
Hello PVN. Thanks for watching! Hope your show goes great and you found some of the tips useful! I will be implementing some wireless remote ignition for July 4th 2020. Mostly because I will be adding my display to a local HOA display and I will need the ability to remote ignite from a safe distance for certain segments of the show. I'm hoping I will be able to capture this on a basic remote firing tutorial video.
@@brandonc7450 My 2019 show got rained out for the most part. I ended up firing off individual pieces during a short break in the rain but had about 60 percent of my 2019 stash unused. The bright side of it all is : I'm re-stocking for 2020 like I'm starting from scratch and will include EVERYTHING I have in July. I will use all your fusing\taping tips so that the weather cant stop the show! I recommend you check out the Cobra firing system for your wireless interface. I didn't use it in my show because of the rain but it was very reliable in all the tests I did. Can't wait to see what you do in the future. Best of luck in 2020!
Great tips! And an awesome show! I’m really picky and all those fireworks for one of my shows would’ve lasted 30 minutes LOL just because I would spread them out a little slower so it’s not so smoky and you can see each individual cake. I think having one continuous fuse like that make the show kind a look like a sky puke towards the 1/2 point. I would put a break maybe halfway through the show and let it calm down a little bit here and there and it gets to the crowd on their tippy toes.but That’s me being picky. Great fusing techniques and I will use your aluminum foil trick on my racks this year!
That was a fantastic way to end the how to videos! I did my first show this year, now i'm hooked! lol Thanks for all the great tips and the two how to videos! I really enjoyed watching that!
Great tips Brandon. I am doing a community display this year and will definitely be using your videos to get everything set up. Keep us posted on the firing systems. It was not in the budget this year but I want to try it next year
I will have to say great show and thank you for the time you took to show how to fuse together the cakes and mortars that really helps me cuz I want to use mine together this year instead of lighting them one by one and your video was the best by far to show how to help thank you excellent show!
Hi Samantah van den Bosch, thanks for watching! It is sad that a lot of the professional displays were cancelled this year. I am hoping that this will allow more people to enjoy the show I will be putting on this year for 2020!

Hi Ez Tre, thanks for watching and the kind words! The show for 2020 ran a bit slower than I would have liked since I teamed up with an HOA, but I think the end is well worth it. Should have 2020 show up in a week or two!
Hands down a better shown than what my town of 30k puts on! Like by a long shot!!! Dont think I've ever seen my town give us a show THIS good!! Amazing work and effort!
Super cool show! This is really similar to how I used to shoot my shows. This year I bought a ton of 1/1 cakes (if you don’t know what a 1/1 cake is you’ll find out eventually) and just bought a firing system. Gonna have about a 10 minute show this year. We also shoot on a lake so we have a lot of people watching. Great show!
OMG. This is what I’ve been looking for. This is great. We put on a show at the family farm and it’s always a cluster. Your set up is perfect. I will implement most, of not all of your techniques. Also, do you have a list of cakes used in this. And maybe a shot order. Thanks.
Hi Rob Barbee, thanks for watching and the kind words! I do have a list in Excel, I will try to put it into word so I can copy and past it here. The list is just for the names of the cakes, I do not have a list of the shot order.
Hi Igor Tereshchenko, thanks for watching! I'm sure you would make an outstanding neighbor. Greetings form Michigan and take care over there in the center of the U.S.!
Hi Fluphen Azine, thanks for watching! Yes, it is a bit close for comfort. That's why I try to angle the racks/boards towards the water. I will also try to place some vertical plywood behind the boards this year to provide some sort of shield on the back side. This should provide at least some protection from a cake if it does end up blowing out.
Beautiful show. I'd like to also record one as they are almost as fun to watch again. What camera and setting did you use? And approx how far was cam from the pit? Thanks
The camera was about 110' away. I moved the camera further back for 2020 to a few hundred feet. Camera Gear: -Panasonic GH4 -Laowa 7.5mm ultra wide angle lens -Geekoto tripod Camera settings for show: -Focus set to infinity -Manual focus -Aperture 2.0 (wide open) -Shutter speed 60 -ISO +16Db -Recording frame rate 30fps -Recording resolution 4K
The pace of this show was great. It doesn't look like you're active anymore but I'll ask anyway, about how much did this display cost you? if you can remember. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you for these videos. I have two questions: 1. Did someone pay you to put on these shows or are you volunteering? 2. Did you have to get a permit with a city or HOA to do the show? Oh and 3. How did you select your launch site? Thanks again.
Hi Luvinthe Jazz, thanks for watching! 1. No one pays me to do these shows, I just enjoy it as a hobby. 2. I shoot all 1.4G consumer grade pyro, so no permit with a city is needed. The HOA of the lake does their own show, who I teamed up with for 2020. 3. The HOA selected the launch site that would provide the best view for all of the homes on the lake. We take precautions such as angling the boards to shoot out over water and wetting down the immediate area with a garden hose to reduce the chances of fires. For 2020, I also put up plywood behind my cake boards to act as a shield to protect myself and any spectators behind the firing line.
Brandon C well, I think it’s amazing that you voluntarily put in so much time, effort, and money to build this show and bring so much joy to so many. I admire you for what you’re doing. God bless you.
Hi Amanda Razo, thanks for watching! I just put out a video on how I fuse my fanned racks. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/EAyEXSHwj60/v-deo.html I am hoping to put out one or two more videos this year before the 4th arrives but I am very busy at work. Hopefully I can make that a reality!
Brandon ... Overall .. a nice show... For 2020... My only advice would be about how you recorded it... The camera was a little close so you missed some of the higher breaking effects... Also, if possible, try to add another angle with a GoPro or phone and cut between them... It keeps the eye moving and adds a while other level of visual stimulus. Nice job
Hi Boom In the Sky, thanks for watching! I agree with you about my camera, even with an ultra wide lens, it was too close. I couldn't move it any further back as I was already pressed up against a house lol. This year I plan to have a better spot for the camera and I'm hoping I can get someone to fly my drone for me to get some other angles. Thanks for the tips!
Great show but alot of sky puke, i would slow it down a little like one cake at a time( if you can help it)until you get to a false finally, then pause for a few seconds after the false finally, shoot off a mixture of 200 and 500 gram cakes plus add some true ball artillery shells in there one at at time leading into the actual finally. Great show anyway

Hey thanks for watching! I did have some cakes from Pro Fireworks. I buy my pyro anywhere from 3-8 weeks after the fourth of July for next year. I tend to find the best deals and sales around that time frame. You should check out Red Apple Fireworks if you live in the South East part of Michigan. Very large store with great product and very good prices. For July 4th 2020, Ill be shooting with the HOA of the lake seen in this video. I'll be switching to mostly mortars. I have about 360. Two boards will make up the finale. I may also try out a wireless firing system. Thanks for the offer to help! If you live up near Onoway you're pretty far to the North from me though lol. About a 4 hour drive.
Great instructional video. However to me it looks like you had a bunch of cakes shooting on top of each other. Is that the way your show was designed or was there a miscalculation in the burn time for your cakes?
High fast fireworks, thanks for watching. It was a bit of both. The majority of the show was designed to have (1) 200g cake and (1) 500g cake firing at one time. The slow fuse burn rate was advertised at 25-30 seconds per foot. I did my layout based on 30 seconds per foot but the fuse burned closer to 25 seconds per foot. So there were times when 3 or four cakes were firing at one time due to the faster burn time on the fuse.
@@brandonc7450 well I think you do a super job with your setups I'll tell you that. very detailed information and very informative. I figured it must have been something like that or a fuse jump.
Hey Brandon, great job on that show brother! I'm new to pyro myself, and from Michigan as well. New here on UA-cam also. I shot my first show on Memorial Day this year. Only about four minutes long, but a great experience. Just finishing the prep on my boards for the Fourth. Longer, more intense show. Anyway, have a great show, be safe, and have an awesome Fourth! Liked and subbed, maybe you could share the love...
Hi Flying Solo Pyrotechnics, thanks for watching! Appreciate the comments and I can absolutely share the love. Subbed you brother. Good luck with your July 4th show and stay safe!
Looking at the possibility of setting of a community display this year instead of just in our backyard. I know prices are different in various stores and for different products, but can you give me a rough idea of the cost of that display? Thanks in advance!
Hello ReGenesis Art. The total cost of the pyrotechnic product in this display was about $1,600. That includes the 12% (6% normal Michigan sales tax & 6% fire sales tax) tax. It does not include anything else ie; plywood, fasteners, DR11 HDPE mortar tubes, home-made mortar racks, fusing, tape, liquid nails, tarps/plastic, ect. Red Apple fireworks has good prices, Phantom Fireworks is good only if they have the "buy one get two free" deal. Pro Fireworks is good on prices but I had a few pieces from them "blow-out". And there are a few pieces that I like from Jakes Fireworks. Jakes gives 10% off your whole order for active and veteran military.
@@brandonc7450 Thanks for the info. We have a Phantom fireworks a few miles away and their stuff is just ok in my opinion. I really like Red Apple, but don't have one close. Will be checking out just how much shipping costs might be to south central PA.
@@regenesisart1373 Im in South Central Pa. I have a great spot for you to check out. Its an hour and a half drive from York Pa but well worth it. I dont want to hijack Brandons post so shoot me a an email and I will forward you the info, Jerry bmorecopper@yahoo.com
That was a bit too much, pace-wise. Too busy, couldn't appreciate half of the fireworks due to so much going on. Also the smoke got overwhelming and took away from the effect. Try changing up the pace throughout. Have a busy section, have a slower more deliberate section, etc. Loved the how to portions though. Very good instruction. Thank you.
Hi Seroha guju, thanks for watching! The cost of the pyro product is around $1,600. This does not include costs of other supplies such as plywood, liquid nails, fusing, tape, ect. You can get fireworks from almost anywhere. The fireworks in this show were from Phantom Fireworks, Pro Fireworks, and Jakes Fireworks. For 2020, I purchased a lot of my stuff from Red Apple located in Monroe Michigan. Buy only 1.4G stuff. If someone is selling you 1.3G stuff, that is display grade and could get you into a lot of trouble with the ATF.
Hi thanks for watching! Time mark 3:57 is the last portion of my favorite 200g cake. It is called "Mobile Menace" manufactured by "Brothers" ua-cam.com/video/6Kbxx4F5ONY/v-deo.html

Welcome to the Pyro Community
@@BoomInTheSky Thanks for the greeting. I've seen some of your videos. Nice work.
@@jerryleisher1138 Hi Jerry, thanks for tipping off fellow Pyro's on where to get some good product at a good price!
Freworks 2019
That was a bit too much, pace-wise. Too busy, couldn't appreciate half of the fireworks due to so much going on. Also the smoke got overwhelming and took away from the effect. Try changing up the pace throughout. Have a busy section, have a slower more deliberate section, etc. Loved the how to portions though. Very good instruction. Thank you.
Very nice is their a 2020 show yet?
Hi Mojoeraser, thanks for watching! Yes there is a 2020 show. It took me a while to edit and post it as I just put it up tonight!
I am amateur looking to buy more this year. I just don’t know where I can get more for value at
Like to make a mini show about 20 minutes or so
Can you reuse the boards for the next show?
Of course just store them in a dry space
How much does a 10min show like that cost?
Lol, now I have to ask... How many 10s of thousands did that cost?
Do you buy wholesale?
How much does something like this set u back and where’s the best place to get them?
Brandon C wait so your saying out of all these fireworks you only spent 1600 dollars??
@@awesomoto9822 Yes, for the pyrotechnic product.
Where was this?
What is the name of those being shot at the 3:00 mark??
Hi Dustin Figueroa, thanks for watching! That is Swarming Skeeters from Phantom Fireworks ua-cam.com/video/D9APx4EmOuE/v-deo.html
Could you tell me what are those 4-5 fireworks that fire at the same time at 3:57 ? Thank you.
Hi thanks for watching! Time mark 3:57 is the last portion of my favorite 200g cake. It is called "Mobile Menace" manufactured by "Brothers" ua-cam.com/video/6Kbxx4F5ONY/v-deo.html
Brandon C Thank you so much!
