- Newly elected independent MP Iqbal Mohamed, representing Dewsbury and Batley, was sworn in at the House of Commons on Thursday.
Instead of taking the oath, Mohamed opted for a non-religious affirmation, as did new independent MP Shockat Adam, along with many others.
Mohamed won the new Dewsbury and Batley seat to become the first independent MP elected at a general election in Yorkshire since 1907.

My tiny heart shaken upon hearing it too. But I listen a second time with what knowledge I know, I think it is somewhat permissible.
Firstly he was given the option to swear or affirm and he chose the latter. Where affirm just means to declare a support.
Secondly the allegiance is just a declaration of loyalty to the monarchy.
As a Muslim individual you need to comply to the jurisdiction of the geographic location and government rule of the day as you will be held accountable for that on Judgement Day.
So long that there is no hindrance to exercise your faith. Like your 5 times daily prayers, fasting and the likes.
