I think it’s ridiculous that people demand that the original piece be returned to Mexico, since we don’t know the circumstances of it acquisition by Europeans. For all we know, it could have been a gift or even a souvenir that was legally purchased. Albeit the conquistadores did loot and pillage, they were interested primarily in precious metals and gems - items that could be transported easily and used as currency in whatever land. The conquistadores were known to have melted down many masks and artifacts before transport to the Spanish peninsula: if this piece were looted, then all of the precious metals and gems would’ve been removed and the feathers discarded, since they were not considered a currency by the Europeans. The fact that the piece is still mostly intact, and the fact that it was found in the possession of a member of the Hapsburg family in Austria, suggests that it was a gift. Let’s not forget: the Meshica gave several diplomatic gifts to Cortes upon first contact and before hostilities began, which were intended for the emperor, Carlos V de Hapsburgo. Also, the Spanish did not conquer the Meshica by themselves, but were aided by their allies the Tlaxcaltecas and other tribes: maybe one of their leaders gave this as a gift to the Hapsburg Emperor? We just don’t know. That said, this beautiful work of art is as much a part of the history of Austria as it is of Mexico. These are the ties that bind, like it or not. Be proud of our shared history. ;)
Dom The one they show in the museum, which is the one we are seeing in the video. That is a replica, but they also have the original. Mexico presidents have asked for it back.
I've never pronounced Tenochtitlan so well, lol. I adore feathered artwork, though I do feel for the poor Quetzal birds that lost those beautiful tail feathers to make this.. Hopefully they were harvested in a non-harmful way.. 😅 It's great that we're able to cross-reference the various ritual elements in objects like the figure around 2:00. I can only imagine how amazing the full outfit was!
The Crown of Monctezuma is held in a Austrian museum while it is part of the Mexican history and identity. The World Museum should give it back. Better a broken Crown in Mexico on the right place, than a crown without its historical and people connection on the wrong place in a Museum in Vienna. BTW: The Crown was already broken and you repaired it with feathers from India. The Gold is only 23 percent original. So this crown is already broken. It belongs better in Mexico. You should not keep it. When will you give it to Mexico>.
This should be returned to the Mexica people.

It’s not a coming together but a force of change in the Aztec’s culture.
Definitely should be returned, or declare *Ximicacan*
Maybe I heard wrong but I’m pretty sure she says this is a replica

Nahuatl for war ?
@@derekintheph8935 reference to Civ 5. I believe it's a war cry meaning "Offering" as in, a new offering to make for the gods

I wonder where humanity would be if the Spaniards never conquered the Aztec
👍🏿
Somebody else would have conquered them
It simply means it would have taken a while, but the English, French and Portuguese would have taken up the slack.

They were stolen from Mexico & Cortez & the rest of Spain disrupted & destroyed my Aztec people.
Hasta ahora veo que los aztecas hablan inglés.
Amigo, créeme que cuando te digo que el pueblo indígena de México odiaba a los aztecas. Eran igual, o peores conquistadores que los españoles.

Those feathers should definitely be returned to the bird it was stolen from!
@Riddhi Deb the feather's belong to the Mythical bird: The Green Resplendent Quetzal
