I was well and truly impressed after the brief tour of the front. When I realized that the back was open too I immediately put this tank and it's behind the scenes infrastructure (from your other video) at the top of my list of most impressive private aquariums. You've got my admiration as an invertebrate biologist and and aquarist.
what a great place to live in...so much vegetation...and this aquarium is the jewel in the room....simply amazing...you are a person with great taste....wish you the best
If I`d get a free ticket to heaven and I`d have to design my room it would look like yours for sure. Simply lovely....an oasis of silence and relaxation u got there.
Every inch of this reef is something special and what a good job this guy has done with the up keep. Wow already said it but ill say it again TOP three best over all tanks ive ever seen. It inspires me to work harder on my own. Love it...
FIrst off loved the tank it look like you were making an oceanic documentary lol beautiful! and love you place too swanky! Gardening and Saltwater aquariums two of my fav things. Thanx for posting this vid
ok, I can't help it, but I loved your old tank. I liked that it was 360. I am sure your new tank will grow to be fantastic, but to this day, I keep going back to the other. It was the most fantastic tank I have ever come across.
Thats a serious reef you have there. Must be extremely relaxing and gradifying to sit in those lounge chairs and look at that. going to follow along and hope to see many more updates.
I'm 39 and never seen a setup like yours anywhere that would be every bodys dream to own a lovely reef like yours thank you for letting us all see this kep up the good work reefkeeper2
@calireefer I have been using them for about 6 years. You set the range of motion and the speed of rotation. When the power goes out they will stop and you will have to reprogram. It's fast and easy. The hardest part is getting the Tunzes to stay put. I use zip locks on the wires and that seems to do it. Considering they run 24/7 they do remarkably well. I just replaced one of the three I have.
The fixtures are 11 inches from the ware surface. They ramp up so that they are at 100% from noon time till 6pm. Then they ramp down till lights out at 10pm. A lot of people have trouble getting their colors where they want them with LEDs. I'm not sure why.
@pmrossetti1 I get the acrylic refinishing kit from micro mesh. I put the papers on my magnet algae scraper and use a lot of elbo grease. Its tedious but it works.
@kennygonebonkers I got it as a small frag about 5 years ago. It grew very fast. The hammer coral in the front left of the tank has been fragged many times. It practically grows faster than my lawn!
@MrFishman345 I got borrowed a lux meter from a friend and measured the light intensity around my tank with the old halides. When I got the AI units I matched that intensity as best I could and then slowly increased over the next few months. I think I started around 40% .Go slow and just carefully observe your corals. If they look stressed, cut back or go slower.
@RHeweyL I have made a number of changes since the '08 TOTM such as removing the remote deep sand bed, starting biopellets and most recently adding an algae turf scrubber. As with most things in this hobby, cause and effect are difficult to judge. My electric bill runs $60.00 - $80.00 a month cheaper than the previous year. The weather is a factor here as well.
I had some of the corals before with metal halides. Some have been grown from frags under the sol blues. I never lost a coral when I changed the lights.
@fallrivermikey79 Thanks, but I still feel I have a ways to go before I would ever call it perfect. I am about to make some more changes to the aquascape. I have donated my very large derasa clam to the New England Aquarium. It just got too huge and the corals above were starting to shade it. After it has gone, I will change the rock work and start to add more corals. I will miss the clam because it was a beauty, but I know it's going to a good home.
I have read about colour rendition issues Surprised with the NSL you have this! I have a Arcadia OT2 LED which is a Combi Light 6 x T5 , 30 Blue and 30 white 3 W LEDs I found an Actinic tube resulted in an improved colour palate I also found Coral Vitalizer intensified SPS colour, probably a result of more polyp extension Especially Seriatopora Hystrix mine has the pink body with purple polyip Light in the 420~450 nm shifted it from an orangey red to deep pink Great tank something
This is an amazing setup! I can only hope to be as successful as you have been. How are you controlling the algae when your tank is in a glass room? It would be great if you could do more video's of your filtration setup. Some informational video's on how you setup your rock, pumps, etc inside the tank would be great too. As well as you've done we could all learn from you!
@pmrossetti1 There are no shrimp or crabs at the moment. They have just died over time and I have not yet replaced them. I scratch the acrylic plenty. I have just gotten really good at buffing them out. About once a year I de-scratch the tank.
DUDE..... WTF? I cant even watch this tank. I feel like im in a dream. the thing is amazing. even the room its in is awsome. this video just got logged into my memory as my dream tank. Hurting me with my little 120 lol.
@pmrossetti1 Its hard to say. At this time of year only one side of the tank gets any sunlight. That side never looks any different than the side that gets less. Further, the sunlight has to pass thru those argon filled double panes of the room. I don't know what that does to the quality of the light. I love the effect though when the sun is shining throughout the tank. That happens best in June, when the sun is straight above instead of low on the horizon like it is now.
I'm not a marine biologist but in college my major was in biology with a minor in chemistry. I don't think you need either to succeed with a reef aquarium but some science background is really helpful. What is most required is persistence and patience.
There is an activated carbon reactor and a protein skimmer. I don't use any filter socks or sponges. I believe particulate waste important for the corals and filter feeders. Its the dissolved waste you need to get rid of. The biopellets and algae turf scrubber handle that. Take a look at the video of the sump.
I use a Schuran calcium reactor and an Aqua Medic kalk stirrer. I think a doser is more precise and consistant but my tank is too large. It would be too expensive.
@CincinnatiReefer Algae is always a problem in a reef tank but this one is no worse than others I have had. Algae growth on the acrylic decreased when I installed the LEDs. I think this is because they are much more directional with no ambient light spilling in all directions as with conventional lighting systems. I will see what I can do about more vids of the filtration system.
Switching from t5 to LED will be a major change in the way your tank and corals look. The pastel colors the t5 brings out will be gone and in place you will have the darker more intense colors of the LEDs. Make certain you like the look before you change. Three fixtures sounds about right.
@franchu1 Depends on what you want to keep. If you want sps throughout the tank you would need three maybe four. Some people do it with just two.It all depends on your preference. I would recommend you go see a tank in person
@brilly21 Try to simulate natural daylight cycle of dawn, full day and dusk. Keep your lights on 10 - 12 hours max and use your LEDs for moonlight ( not every night).
@jluspo I removed the remote deep sand bed because it stopped working and my nitrates were starting to rise. Now I use a combination of biopellets and an algae turf scrubber. Works really well. I need to make another vid of the sump area.
@reefkeeper2 Thank you for the reply! I was having a tough time looking for wavy seas. What do you think of the moceans? Could you tell me how long you've used them and any problems you might have had. I was also wondering if you can adjust the range of movement or is it set and will they come back on after a power outage or do you have to manually reset them? Thanks
thas beautifull!, now can any one tell me if sun light and atinic light bulbs have to be on together all time which one ill turn off in the night? or night time just leave led light on only?
@reefkeeper2 I hear ya. It can be very expensive. I went ahead and bought all faux reef. looks nice, although not real. It still cost me over $350.00 for the fake reef alone. Not cheap by any means. Nice aquarium though.
I see a lot of impressive setups but I have to say this is among the nicest I've seen ever! Talk about a dream aquarium! I tip my hat to you Sir! I'm watching all your other videos now...;-) I just don't get how the center console can contain all the hardware.. How on earth can what ever's in there be enough for that bio load? Or is the setup in the room below?
I saw this on TOTM on reefkeeping and fell in love with reef keeping forever. I room in which it sits is a dream of mine. Beautiful
I was well and truly impressed after the brief tour of the front. Man... what a beautiful tank - and room - and, yes - the two little dogs! Awesome!
Unbelievable tank... Truly a breathtakingly unique design, and the sun room/garden room is a perfect setting for such an amazing work of art.
what a great place to live in...so much vegetation...and this aquarium is the jewel in the room....simply amazing...you are a person with great taste....wish you the best
Very nice, love the way it sit in your house and WOW, your tank is jam pack with corals.......LOVE IT
If I`d get a free ticket to heaven and I`d have to design my room it would look like yours for sure. Simply lovely....an oasis of silence and relaxation u got there.

one beautiful tank.its nice to see you still find room for new corals.peace.thumbs up
That has to be the MOST peaceful and lay-back room I've ever seen!
Thats a serious reef you have there. Must be extremely relaxing and gradifying to sit in those lounge chairs and look at that. going to follow along and hope to see many more updates.
Great looking tank, love the 360 degree viewable angles
very nice tank. love all the colors of the corals in your system.
I'm 39 and never seen a setup like yours anywhere that would be every bodys dream to own a lovely reef like yours
thank you for letting us all see this kep up the good work reefkeeper2
Thanks Mark!
This is no fish tank. Not an aquarium. This is a window into the sea. Beyond immaculate perfected achieved. Well done, my friend.
@calireefer

I wish i could grow corals like you. Everything seems to thrive. You must know your chemistry very well lol.
hi thanks for your reply the green plater is just before the carpet it has 2 acros above it x
Thank you! The room does add a lot to the viewing experience . It can be hard integrating a tank into a home and have it look like it fits.
Honestly, that is gorgeous. I am in envy of your tank, and that room :)
O_O
dont really know where to start...
this is just.... wow....
the most beautiful set up i have ever seen.

Wow look at the size of that clam! SICK TANK!!!
@kennygonebonkers
I got it as a small frag about 5 years ago. It grew very fast. The hammer coral in the front left of the tank has been fragged many times. It practically grows faster than my lawn!
Are u kidding me, absolutely gorgeous tank. Wow. nice job
There are five Tunze stream pumps that provide circulation. Three of them are mounted on Vertex Moceans that moves them back and forth.
@MrFishman345
I got borrowed a lux meter from a friend and measured the light intensity around my tank with the old halides. When I got the AI units I matched that intensity as best I could and then slowly increased over the next few months. I think I started around 40% .Go slow and just carefully observe your corals. Thanks. The reef looks very natural in the sunroom.
@RHeweyL

I think when people get into this hobby, this is how they imagine their tanks looking. Sadly, most tanks never reach this level of awesomeness.
your tank could be dream setup.. very impressive set up ..
I think everyone gets in the hobby to some day have a tank so well set up..
I had some of the corals before with metal halides. Some have been grown from frags under the sol blues. I never lost a coral when I changed the lights.
@fallrivermikey79

This is the most awesome fishtank i ever saw in my lifetime
looking forward to the new anthias. thanks
@123xlee
Those are Tunze Streams mounted on Vertex Moaceans.
Beautiful tank, one day I would love to have a tank like this.
I have read about colour rendition issues

The more light the better for the corals. Algae growth has to be controlled by keeping the nutrient levels of the water very low.
BREATHTAKING, I AM EXTREMELY JEALOUS! GREAT JOB CHAPS! :)
That's was worth every second of my life watching your tank
This is an amazing setup! I can only hope to be as successful as you have been. How are you controlling the algae when your tank is in a glass room?

I believe that is a Derasa clam. I gave it to the New England Aquarium this summer.
I can only dream to have a tank as Gorgeous !
Simply amazing, great work
@pmrossetti1

amazing thank, love how it is out in the open in a green house
@saul831
They are great. It's been a full year now and everything still looks good.
@pmrossetti1

wow your acuarium its the class of word congratulaciones very nice

@reefkeeper2
Wow, 10 years? Congratulations on that, too! I understand that's a feat just in itself.
thanks so much for your kind replys.
There is an activated carbon reactor and a protein skimmer. I don't use any filter socks or sponges. I believe particulate waste important for the corals and filter feeders. That is a fantastic collection.
I use a Schuran calcium reactor and an Aqua Medic kalk stirrer. I think a doser is more precise and consistant but my tank is too large. It would be too expensive.
Beautiful tank, I had my Blue Throat Trigger jump, sad day.
uve accomplished the perfect reef tank ..congrats
couldnt have said it better myself!
unbelievable tank!
such a sexy tank, i will definitely be stealing this room setup one day
@calireefer
They are called moceans and are made by Vertex. Previously they were called wavy seas.
Absolutely amazing! Four sides of beauty!
@CincinnatiReefer

@brilly21 Try to simulate natural daylight cycle of dawn, full day and dusk. Keep your lights on 10 - 12 hours max and use your LEDs for moonlight ( not every night).
Probably one of the nicest reef tanks on u tube , well done.
wow thanks for the scenery awesome
must be nice to be able to afford such a piece of work and enjoy it!
High praise indeed. Thank you very much. I majored in biology when I was at college.
@edguevarra9703
The LEDs ramp up 3 hours to 100% for a full six hours a day, then ramp down four hours to lights out.
Looking great man keep up the good work.
I second that! Absolutely stunning!
I guess I'm as speechless as the other people posting!!!! Congrats!!!!!!
Blue throats are very peaceful. My favorite fish.
absolutely amazing! can i post on our fb page??
That is a gorgeous tank
@soverjas
Thank you. I'm getting some new anthias this weekend and if they don't go into hiding I might post a vid of them.
@jluspo I removed the remote deep sand bed because it stopped working and my nitrates were starting to rise. Now I use a combination of biopellets and an algae turf scrubber. Works really well. I need to make another vid of the sump area.
@covenstead
Thank you! There are actually three little dogs but the third one was camera shy.
The acrylic is one inch thick. The tank is seven feet long by three and a half feet wide. It's thirty inches high.
@reefkeeper2
Thank you for the reply! I was having a tough time looking for wavy seas. What do you think of the moceans? Could you tell me how long you've used them and any problems you might have had. The center is the overflow. All the equipment is in the basement.
thas beautifull!, now can any one tell me if sun light and atinic light bulbs have to be on together all time which one ill turn off in the night? or night time just leave led light on only?
great size looking tank
I have one side of the tank done. I am still thinking about what I want to do with the other.
The lights are Aqua Illumination Sol Blues. I don't know if they are available in the UK. The new version is supposed to be coming out soon.
@luxauterna1
That's a coral beauty. There are three in the tank.
Thats a really sweet setup
@reefkeeper2 I hear ya. It can be very expensive. I went ahead and bought all faux reef. looks nice, although not real. It still cost me over $350.00 for the fake reef alone. Not cheap by any means. Nice aquarium though.

Congrats ! This is one of the most beautiful reef tank i ever saw ! Can you estimate the cost for building such a beauty ? Thx.
Wow it's just so amazing
wow triggers, mine went nuts on my coral and had to get rid of them
I dose lugols iodine 4 drops daily for the gorgonians. There is a calcium reactor and a kalk stirrer for alkalinity and calcium needs. That is all.
