Vanity metrics are metrics or analytics that are satisfying on paper and suggest growth and success like social media followers, page views, subscribers, and more. These metrics are exciting to point to if you want to appear to be improving, but they often aren’t actionable and aren’t related to anything you can control or repeat in a meaningful way. For instance, you’re a large (belting) company with 10’s of thousands of social media followers but 99% are your employees since you have thousands of them and even more than that in turnover.
