    Hi Friends! In today’s video, we’re chatting about my thoughts on buying your dream Hermes Birkin or Hermes Kelly bag on the preloved market or from resellers and what to look out for. We’re also discussing some tricks on how to get your Hermes bags authenticated by an Hermes craftsman, even though Hermes doesn’t technically offer authentication. With more and more people turning to the preloved market to score their dream luxury bags, it’s important to alway do your own research and only buy from trustworthy resellers and preloved sites. Do you have any tips to spot a real vs fake Birkin?

    Very interesting topic. Although being a Hermès's client (not a die-hard faithful fan like you) since 2006, I think i have bought leather bags in boutique only 3 times: a mens' reporter shoulder bag, a kelly and a special order Birkin. Not being the type who is very sensitive to new trends (I know my style and seeing something worn by an influencer is a definite turn-off ), it is much more "money-saving" to shop pre-loved. As you mentioned in your video with the Birkin 35, I can find some incredible deals often in pristine conditions coz what I usually like isn"t exactly what it's hot at the moment. The trick I usually inadvertly use, as a Parisian buyer is to buy from Parisian resellers through Vestiaire collective. All the bags I had bought preloved were all recent (not older than 2017). With the seller, we do, of course, communicate in French, so, it is very easy for me to know if he is honest or not. When it is the case, I have noticed that he is generally not pushy, has a very cohesive "vestiaire" with only good taste and high-quality items, and he will often be very talkative about the experience he had buying the bag, at which boutique, with which SA....2 of the resellers I had dealt with also tried their best to replicate the "boutique experience" and put in the orange box, along with the bag, some catalogues from past seasons, a cute card with a lovely word... That's how I "authenticate". If the seller can't give me any detailed informations and most and foremost, if he claims that the bag was a gift, here is the red flag!
    On top of that, the older I get (I am turning 42 soon), the harder it is for me to stand and to hear from "the boutique experience", especially at Hermès. I do view the nespresso coffee/ Damman Frères tea bag, the 2 squares of dark chocolate and the shortbread biscuit as a smoke screen hiding the fact that I am willingly gonna get ripped-off! Up to this day, I still can't understand (trust me, the SAs can't get it neither), how we can spend so much hard-earned grands and feeling at the same time obligated to literally bow and to pay homage to someone (in my case, to someone who could be over 10 years my junior) who often brown-noses us and takes our money for stuffs which are scandalously overpriced, no matter how perfect the craftsmanship is.. . And like for every average human being, you have no idea of what he or she might say about us behind the forced smiles and the boutique's curtains. Well, it is commonly assumed that buying luxury = buying a dream and after all, to each their own, there is nothing wrong with that!
    I might have gotten too real since many of my friends had worked or are still working as SA, or in the studios and ateliers. I guess I might know a way too much of the "behind the scenes" dirty or hidden details. So, the dream has somehow just fallen flat for me...
    The besty from high school wearing the vanilla fragrance I was talking about yesterday now works for Chanel in Switzerland. The last time she came to Paris, she brought 2 friends of her who happen to work for Hermès. They were cynically confessing to me (most of the SAs are usually not exactly mean but extremely cynical when they talk about their clients. We are like their sociological guinea pigs) that they still could not believe how some average girls like them could have so much power, control and influence over so many powerful and wealthy people, just for the sake of a frickin handbag!!! It is indeed funny how twisted the world can be sometimes!
    Here is the honest and down to earth review from a 40-something male fashionista who just wanted to share! I thought you may have been interested since you are a tad younger. Just hope it wasn't too straightforward or offensive for some people! Cheers!

      I appreciate you sharing your thoughts 🙏🏻 I've experienced both kinds of services you talked about throughout the years at different Hermes boutiques. There're without a doubt advisors working at the brand who love playing sneaky games, abuse their power and want you to kiss the ring , as you pointed out. However, I've also met some incredible advisors through Hermes who are genuinely kind and not only care about numbers and commission but instead would like to make their loyal clients' shopping experience nothing but magical. Even though I find Hermes is changing, I'd like to believe that we can still find a boutique that's preserves their old-school family values 🧡

    • @mk1642
      @mk1642 3 роки тому +1

      @@IamGPS I wasn’t exactly saying that the advisors were sneaky or mean: they are just doing their jobs and following their managers instructions. And you are right, Hermès and btw most of luxury fashion houses are changing coz their clients are totally different from what they used to be (different motives, different aspirations, différent cultures, different upbringings...). Maybe is it for the best? Hermès is THE classic and most relevant example of marketing segmentation taught in French business schools. Did you know that until the 1980s, they were choosing their clients at the FSH boutique? There also used to be some doormen deciding who were allowed to get in and who were not.

    I personally wouldn’t buy from the pre-loved market. I have such a close relationship with my SA, and I love the experience of shopping in the boutique. I just can’t trust the authenticity of something I didn’t buy directly from Hermès myself! I oddly enjoy playing the “Hermès game” for my dream Birkin, I know it will happen at the right time and until then I will enjoy everything else from Hermès 🧡

    I bought a gorgeous Hermes black croc bag in the preloved market because it is a retired style that I LOVE called Sac Dog. One of the best luxe purchases I've ever made at an amazing price. :) I had it authenticated by Bababebi for peace of mind, but I felt very comfortable with the authenticity once I had it in my hands and could see all the details in real life. TFS another great video! Hugs, Kristina

    Such an important topic! Thank you for posting about this topic. It is certainly my preference to buy directly from the boutique, but it is not always an option for specific styles. For example, I love the Fjord leather which is no longer in production. But buying preloved is so nerve-wrecking and eliminates the great customer service at the boutique.

    • @IamGPS

      That's a great point 👏🏻 There're certain styles and materials that are no longer in production and if you want to add them to your collection, you have no choice but to pick them up from the preloved market..or wait it out until Hermes relaunches it because they likely will 😂

    Great topic and important given how much money is involved in purchase of a B/K/C.
    I have bought from Christie’s and from Ann’s fabulous Finds. I did my own research as well and don’t have any issues with authenticity of the bags I bought. Prices were decent as well especially as I like larger bags and bright colors that are not necessarily sought after at the moment😀.

      I agree about doing your research. My K32 was from my Hermes boutique but I’ve gotten two bags preloved under retail as well. A B35 and. Jypsiere 34cm. I did my research on both sites and felt 99% sure they were crafted by Hermes. However, I had both authenticated by Bababebi. I trusted her expertise and I’m happy without any misgivings. For most of my H bags I like to purchase from the boutique, as I cannot justify marked-up prices on the resale market. However, for bags in past seasonal colours or rare pieces like croc, so black, shadow, the miss you kelly, or even the lace collection, many times there is no choice other than to turn to the resale market and pay a premium. Stay safe 🧡!

    I actually started to buy Hermès menswear years ago before I got drown into the "Hermès game" of b/k/c. I really like the clothes, so that makes it not so hard to score a b/k/c. At first I always calculated the ration between the price of the bag and the sum of "side-buy". But now I just stop totall, and really enjoy the whole experience.

      I am exactly the same!!! From 2006 to 2017, I had been all about Hermès menswear and men’s low-key bags. Then I turned 40, and i might have been brainwashed by my cousins and by social medias, so, I ended up falling into the B/K trap for a while.
