thanks for the video.I have a similar set up and I am plumbing the dastaco to my pax bellum arid n18. I was wondering how you managed the back pressure from the input side side of the CaRx injector (from the CaRx to the Pax Bellum).
Thanks for the video. I am considering buying a DaStaCo for my 500 gallon system. I can fit an A2 under the stand but it is rated for 300 gallons. I heard these reactor are underrated. I called Unique Corals in the USA but they couldn't give me a definitive answer. Do you think I would be OK with an A2? If not, I have space behind my tank, would it be a good idea to install it back there? (I have easy access to it)
I tend to believe manufacturers on their ratings. That said, I'm sure the DaStaCo ratings are done with a tank packed full of well growing SPS corals, and so on that regard you might be fine with a smaller unit if you don't have a packed tank. I would install it somewhere that you can easily access both the top - to fill it - and the bottom - to drain it. I sort of regret putting mine under my tank but I don't have anywhere else to have it.
I am still using it, though I need to buy a new CO2 regulator. It is very well built, and when I had an issue the company got on video chat with me to debug it.
Hey buddy I have the small version of Dastaco but I’m trying to set up a different stepper motor dosing pump but I’m having trouble with set it up I’m getting alarm every 12 hours do you have any tips or advice for that. Thanks 🙏
The check valve was only used on older units. The updated CO2 solenoid replaces both the old solenoid and the CO2 check valve that was on older versions of the DaStaCo2.
It's pretty easy, you open the CO2 tank all the way, then adjust the black knob to 0.8 bars of pressure. Then you use the little silver knob (the fine adjustment knob) to adjust it till it takes 2 to 3 minutes to turn off the CO2 when you plug in the reactor. It might take some adjustment, it took me a few times to get it just right. The alarm will sound if it's not right, so you'll know!
@@ReefMan thx! i did what you said but after hours my alarm goes on because the water level is not switching the float valve in the reactor in time. I will try to change the dosingpump flexibel tube inside. hopefully it will work
@@lavasyst I would think maybe opening the valve just a bit more might help. I had the same issue at first - it would work, but then the alarm would go off after a bit.
Hello, may I know if the dosing pump that feeds the reactor it is possible to hear when it is running? Or is it totally silent? I have all my equipment next to the couch and would like to know this details, because I'm looking for a totally silent feed pump that could no be hear at list with flow until 30ml to 50ml minute. Your comment would be very well appreciated. Thank you
It does make a tiny bit of creaking sort of noise when it's running, and you can also hear the CO2 purge when it does that once a day. The purge makes a lot more noise than the dosing pump which you can barely hear - but you CAN hear it
@ReefMan so say you had an average 120/G system with average demand. Is there a chance this doesn’t run a continuous drip rate increase or is it always continuous no matter what. I guess what I’m asking is...does this differ from normal reactors that drip 24/7.?
You might want to reach out to Unique Corals or another vendor. The manuals changed over time based on the specific version of the DaStaCo2 controller, so it would be worth the effort reaching out to make sure you get the right version of the manual. I would think they could send a PDF to you.
Yea I wonder how much is technically required. Dosing pumps DO wear out, but the plastic tubing between reactor bodies? Seems like some of the recommendations are just a good idea (tubes) vs something that mechanically wears over time (impellers, rotors, etc)
Thank you for the video. I just bought one and your explanation is very helpful.
I'm glad! I thought their documentation was a bit lacking, so I tried to make the guide I wished I had.
Just bought one need help setting this thing up

Are you still using this reactor and what are your final thoughts about it?

@@ReefMan That sounds pretty cool that the company stands behind their stuff. I am debating this thing or a Deltec.
Even before my tank crashed - you can see the coral I had - I didn’t have my DaStaCo turned up past 2 or 3. It’s a beast of a reactor!!
@@ReefMan is this video prior to your crash? What caused the crash? Sorry, I haven’t been following you very long
No worries. This video is before. It was caused by a copper motor burning up in a pump.

Is the new pump exactly the same in flow rate? I think alot is based on how long something should take..
Hi
I see that you don't have a check valve installed.
Is that not mandatory on these reactors?
Thanks...
The check valve was only used on older units. The updated CO2 solenoid replaces both the old solenoid and the CO2 check valve that was on older versions of the DaStaCo2.
how did you fine tune the co2? you said in the video that you will explain it later, but you didnt :-(

So it doesn’t dose continuously? How frequently does it dose?
That depends on where you set the Alk dial. The higher you set it for the more often it will run and the more you dose into your tank.

Hi what PH do you run that media on you said that it shut be run on a low PH
I think it's around 5 to 6. The DaStaCo2 doesn't need to be turned to a pH, it automatically holds the right level so I'm not certain.
I got one used, but no manual. Do you have a link for the mfg manual?
