Please forgive the ugly watermark. This episode was giving us grief so we had to use extreme measures and don't plan to make a regular thing out of it.
This is a detail, but if you look back at Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 1 Episode 12 - The Storm, you'll see in the flashbacks that Aang, at 12, was the only one of his peers with airbender tattoos. He was a master at a really young age, which also helped contribute to how OP his airbending was in the series. He was the exception and so is Jinora.
Let me clarify this. I don’t think he achieved full mastery. However, an Airbender is given the right of passage if he mastered the element or invents the new technique. Hence the air scooter.
Aang got his tattoos at age 12, the original way of obtaining your tattoos as an air bender is to master all 36 tiers of air bending, most air benders master this relatively late in life. I think Aang was a special circumstance because of his status as the avatar (eventhough he did not know it yet) as well as his invention of the air scooter tenchnique.
I believe it was either master the 36 tiers or create a brand new technique. He created the air scooter before being told he was the avatar. I think he still technically hadn’t mastered all 36 tiers
I'm sure you two enjoyed this mid-season sweetness as a break to the heartbreak and stress from the other shows you're watching. Of course the rest of the season happens, and we're back to being devastated... I don't know how far ahead of the release schedule you are, but if you need something light and breezy to counteract all the heavy, you could do worse than giving Burn Notice a try. Basically a mid-2000s take on MacGuyver, where a spy gets burned by his agency and winds up stuck in Miami doing odd jobs for clients, kinda A-Team or Knight Rider-like, to make a little cash and fill time while he searches for who blacklisted him, all the while reconnecting to his family and reconciling the issues that had him leave in the first place. Features Bruce Campbell as a former Navy Seal spending his retirement drinking mojitos and searching for a sugar-mama =P It's just pretty light entertainment, and more enjoyable than I'm making it sound
One thing to remember that isnt very explicit in the show, in order to get your airbending tattoos you not only have to be an airbending master, you have to create your own airbending technique. Aang created the air ball that you always see people riding around on now. Jinorah has the spirit techniques that i think count towards that.
@@vetarlittorf1807 In fact, Aang learned all 36 techniques and developed 37. Today all air nomads need to learn all 37 to become masters - or develop a new technique.

It's always Ba Sing Se because it's the largest city in this world, by a lot. It's essentially Beijing or Hong Kong if Eurasia and Indonesia were the entire world for us.
Yes, the Earth Queen (whose name is Hou-Ting, if you were interested) unquestionably sucks. And killing and eating rare and endangered animals like Sky Bison or the only pure Bear in the world is obviously and objectively horrible and evil. But, at the same time, it's also worth it to also try and look at things from her perspective. What do we know for certain? Well, first of all, that she's violently and possibly cripplingly allergic to any and all animals. And secondly, that her dad Kuei and his pet Bear Bosco never left each other's side. Given how much the former Earth King relied on Bosco both during and after his highly traumatic "puppeteering" by the Dai-Li, it is actually very likely (and I believe this is even confirmed at some point) that he would never or almost never allow himself to be separated from the Bear. Even if it meant that his own daughter could never (or almost never) be anywhere near him. It is obviously horrific that Hou-Ting ate Bosco. But assuming Bosco outlived Kuei.......... I can *_kinda_* see why she did it. I wouldn't even be surprised if that was where her taste for "rare meats" originated. Remember: trauma does not a rational or moral decision-maker make. This goes for both Earth Monarchs, actually.

This is the episode that makes me think Aang wasn't as neglectful a father to Kya and Bumi as they made him out to be in season 2. Allow me to explain. Tenzin, as an air bender, absolutely NEEDED to know everything there was to know about air bending and about air nomad culture. As a part of this, Aang would undoubtedly be taking him all over the world to visit the four air temples and any and all other sacred air nomad areas or areas that might be rich in air nomad history. I have no doubt in my mind that Aang would have loved for ALL of his children to be proficient in air nomad culture and history, but this episode makes it clear that Kya found all of that stuff boring, and Bumi felt like he never fit in properly. SO, my head canon says that Aang would have offered to take all three of them along on these lessons, but Kya and Bumi refuse to go because they'd find it boring or like it wasn't really for them. Now, Aang is still Aang, even as an adult he loves to be goofy and have fun (which will be perfectly showcased in an episode from season 4, if we had any doubts) and he would undoubtedly be making many pit stops along the way on his journey with Tenzin for nothing more than to be goofy and have fun, and Kya and Bumi just wouldn't be there for it because they opted not to go on these trips. It still would have been cool of Aang to make the trips a whole family affair, but it's possible Katara was too busy to go or also didn't want to for whatever reason. Aang was probably ALSO too busy in his avatar duties to the world to make separate vacations just for the sole purpose of having fun, these would be mere side adventures to a much larger and more important task. I think people need to give Aang some slack when it comes to his parenting and realize there are more sides to a story and we really only got Kya's and Bumi's childhood memory side on this one.
Okay so, here's the thing that I find occasionally strange about people's reaction to this episode. when the poacher says that the earth Queen and her high society friends pay high prices for bison meat, it's usually THAT statement where people get that shocked, scandalized look on their faces. But when you think of it....WHY so shocked?? Here's my take: Poaching a species is just cruel for the sake of cruelty, that I admit and will never deny; On the other hand, if you are not a vegetarian nor a cannibal, then animal meat is what you eat, right. So.....they have to get the meat from somewhere. I mean cows and pigs aren't the ONLY source of meat. Deer, moose, rabbits, different forms of Fowl are all great meat sources. I don't approve of the method this man is using by poaching a seemingly harmless herd, but he's got to get it from somewhere.
The Shock value comes from the fact that they’re endangered. Also, the fact that we have as fans have been groomed into favoring flying bison in this series.
@@redfieldwong717 Well to that I answer that hundreds of thousands of people (maybe millions) like Porky Pig, or even Miss Piggy, but that's not going to stop them from greatly enjoying Bacon, Ham or a good juicy pork chop, is it??
