코론이 있는 섬의 정식 명칭은 부수앙가섬(바로 앞에 코론섬이 있어 타운 명칭을 그 섬에서 따왔음)이다. 필리핀에 있는 7,000여 개의 섬들 중 유네스코 해양보호구역으로 지정된 팔라완제도의 깔라미아네스(Calamianes)군도에 속해 있다. 최근 들어 코론섬은 휴식과 해양액티비티를 함께 즐길 수 있는 휴양지로 각광을 받고 있다. 마닐라와 세부에서 로컬항공편으로 1시간 남짓이면 들어갈 수 있기 때문에 교통편에 큰 어려움은 없다.
