- Our guest is author Andrew Nagorski, discussing his new historical narrative "Hitlerland: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power." Nagorski recounts the stories of American journalists and diplomats who were in Berlin prior to Adolf Hitler taking power. He discusses how these individuals viewed Hitler and his rise throughout the 1930's.
... as a German Biologist - this is such a DEEP learning experience - we must keep on studying - as the War now dictates - how EASY it is for any Psycho Path to keep destroying the entire world. So easy! I found with studying Albert Speer his remark . when Speer looked at the sketch Book of Hitler drawing Architecture - and on the opposite Side - drawing WEAPONS! The same thing for Hitler: Building and destroying. How even the closest persons to Hitler - had not the faintest Idea of the HORRORS coming. Even the ultra Germanic Heinrich Himmler - was appalled by the first hearing of killing the Jews - no matter how deeply anti Semitic Himmler was. That never meant holocaust to him. The Mad Psycho Path is hard to decipher... and the new Psycho Paths get ever smarter in camouflage. The next one will be even worse! Things to come H G Wells

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
C. S. Lewis
Mr. Bowyer, this is the truest of statements about tyranny of socialism currently at issue in the US. It’s good that such a man as C.S. Lewis said this. Your question may be, can we learn from this truth and avoid a bleakest of futures? I’d agree with that question. Thanks for the quote and the lesson.
@Captian America There was no threat of Socialism in the US. That scare was an illusion foisted upon the ignorant and gullible Right Wing base by Trumpism.

And now Germany is a faint shadow of its former self. China has all the energy now.
"Life is now more secure than it was in the preceding age; but for this very reason it is more dull. Like human anesthetists a Caesar and an Arsaces and a Kanishka have taken the sting out of those once burning economic and political questions that, in a now already half-forgotten past, were the salt of as well as the bane of human life. The benevolent action of efficient authoritarian governments has undesignedly created a spiritual vacuum in human souls.
How is this spiritual vacuum going to be filled? That is the grand question in the Graeco-Roman world in the second century after Christ; but the sophisticated civil servants and philosophers are still unaware that any such question is on the agenda."

NEVER AGAIN
“We in the United States, above all, must remember that lesson, for we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism. We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate. All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief.”
“At the same time that our Constitution prohibits state establishment of religion, it protects the free exercise of all religions. And walking this fine line requires government to be strictly neutral. And government should not make it more difficult for Christians, Jews, Muslims, or other believing people to practice their faith.”
“And there's something else. The ideals of our country leave no room whatsoever for intolerance, for anti-Semitism, or for bigotry of any kind -- none. In Dallas, we acted on this conviction. We passed a resolution concerning anti-Semitism and disassociating the Republic[an] Party from all people and groups who practice bigotry in any form. But in San Francisco this year, the Democratic Party couldn't find the moral courage or leadership to pass a similar resolution. And, forgive me, but I think they owe you an explanation.”

C-SPAN WASHINGTON JOURNAL DEMOCRAT PAID OPERATIVES RIGGED CALLS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When he said William Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is one of the most incisive studies of that period 15:28 I stopped listening because I know this book to be very superficial. Shirer was not an historian but a newspaper journalist, like Nagorski. Much better books have been written by historians since.
It's a contemporary account by an actual witness not a historical analysis after the event
@Tony Holmes *_You are mistaken as the book is an historical interpretation of the Nazi era using lots of documents, memoires, newspaper articles and Shirer's own recollections after the events. It is definitely a history book._*
As I said more of a memoir. I accept it may have the weaknesses you claim but it does have immediacy while you might not go to it as a definitive mature account.
Respect to Germany, and may there be peace and understanding with nazism and fascism, all nazi and fascists everywhere. In fraternal honour, Amen.

This "cspan" resembles "theonion" more and more as time goes by... As a matter of fact "theonion" is more truthful and believable than any news network out there as time goes by... LOL and theonion is openly satire, but somehow has more truth!!!
