yikes i live in thrift shops and cannot believe I never thought of this, to take apart costume jewelry instead of paying joanne prices, even with coupons.
@@ooohlaa13 The hunt for pieces to bring new life to is almost as fun as making jewelry! LOL. My friend makes a living cleaning up houses and properties for a local real estate agent, and he also moves the contents of auctioned storage units for another person. He’s told to do whatever he wishes with everything they don’t want, and he lets me look through it before he takes it all to the dump. I’ve ended with a TON of costume jewelry and other treasures. Some of the things are unused and in the original packaging! He literally just dropped off a nice haul from a moving job he had where the people got tired of going through their stuff & told him to get rid of the rest. It’s cold & rainy here today so I haven’t had a chance to go through the boxes, but I now have a vintage console stereo with record player like I’ve been wanting for years! I get an entirely different type of satisfaction from making new art from thrifted/found materials than I get from making art from all new supplies. Plus, it’s saving more from being put into landfills or burned. Happy “hunting” wishes going out to you! ✌🏼💜🛼
@@OG_Beckie_Leigh omg you are so lucky ... very nice to hear of this for you, you deserve it! At 79 I am just trying to get rid of some of my bead stash, pour paint stash, yarn, mosaics, fabrics, well I'm sure you know. I just sold 25 years of crockery on FB Marketplace to an aspiring mosaic newbie and its refreshing to have room in my shed! The hazard in all this is the accumulation of supplies and tools until you can't move in small quarters like mine, so once I get a lot done I will sell the rest as there are so many things I want to dabble in. @@ooohlaa13 I am lucky to have a friend like that, but it makes decluttering difficult. I’m 48, and my kids are grown. I’ve started rug tufting just so I can use up some of the mountains of yarn I’ve bought and inherited throughout the years, and I’ll be donating the fabric to a local quilting club. Hi! I use 18 gauge wire for mine because it's sturdier. 20 gauge works fine too but you need to wrap a lot more and it can still be flimsy. I'd just say bear this in mind, whoever is reading. Happy ring-making :):)
@@CookieCrumble27 I’m new but I’ve worked with 20 and 16 there’s a substantial difference. 16 is two times tougher to work- doesn’t mean impossible. 18 is ofc in the middle and it really just depends on the look you’re going for
so many times I read dead or soft dead words but never see these words on labels ... is it a foreign country product that uses such terms? I found it might say medium soft or some such ... also what is artistic wire mean? I hate buying stuff and then it doesn't get used, and then the receipt and waiting in line return hassle to take it back takes up time i can be creating!!!
Love your video. I think the way you simplify the whole process is great. From "thrifting" beads to using your own thumb as a ring mandrel, to using cuticle cutters as flush cutters makes this craft accessible to anyone who wants something pretty but doesn't want to buy unnecessary tools (or can't afford to). That's using your noggin! Good for you young lady. Keep teaching. Practical is smart. And you're a very bright bulb.
I look at jewelry making videos all the time, and I never seem to grasp how I could make them. The demonstration was simple. Repeating the steps and taking through the steps. Thank you.
I *really* recommend beads/stones from Michaels because they almost always have sales on each strand of different beads and there is a huge selection!!
I was gonna buy a hobby lobby kit to learn how to make these but im so happy I found this video instead. Im looking to make some cuz i have tons of beads but no tools or craft skills lol. Much appreciated babe!
i make sure it’s wrapped enough and it helps keep the shape! it gets easier with practice, but if it ever becomes wonky just place it back on t he mandrel and just “squish it” or use the end of the pliers and hit it a big :D
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!! i want to start making those rings too bec i have rly big fingers so normal rings from the story don’t fit & that’s a great chance for me to wear rings (FINALLY LMAO).

Thank you soo much!! I wanted to make these rings sooo bad but they always looked really complicated but you explained this perfectly and my ring turned out really nice for my first attempt and I love it!! 💗
I'm a senior (61 years old) I find it much easier to make my rings by using a steel mandrel that has a groove in it. I just purchased a new one on Ebay for $20 and I love it!
Hey girl! Awesome rings! What a cool way to make some pretty rings by using beads from another piece of jewelry! I think these are my favorite! For sure! Thanks for such good tutorials. The rings remind me of the beach. So pretty! Thanks again dearie!
burnisher is a file for wire which is well worth the money. I think it was 15-20 bucks. All tuck wireinto the bottom of the stone towards the edge may help your end results. Good luck, I enjoyed
So those pliers you have if i remember correctly have a wire cuter in that circle area @ the bottom just so you know!! We had a pair that looked like that along time ago so im not sure if the design is the same!!
I think your pliers can cut wire if you see right near the base where the circle is that normally where pliers cut wire I mean I can’t see too good but I think they can
