I think this is literally the only video on youtube that explains how to do this with horizontal strips instead of vertical strips. I would have never understood this concept without it, and it was very easy to follow as well. Thank you for making it.
I never comment on youtube, but I feel like I have to after watching this video. Thanks a ton for explaining this concept so clearly. Much appreciated!!
Really want to say thank you !! It helps a lot, I've been searching for this kind of problems online and got nothing at the end:( But this video really gives me new life
Problem: Work out area of triangle with 12 base & 10 height by slicing it up into equal height rectangles (each is =∆h): Work out the slope 1st: b'=12/10=6/5=1⅕ b(0)=12 b(1)=b(0)-b'∆h=12-(1⅕)∆h b(i)=12-(1⅕)(∆h)i Σb(i)∆h=N(12∆h)-(1⅕)(∆h)²Σi =12N∆h-(1⅕)(∆h)²(½N(N+1)) ∆h=10/N => N=10/∆h: Σb(i)∆h=120-(1⅕)(∆h)²(½)((10/∆h)²+10/∆h) =120-(1⅕)(50+5∆h) =120-(60+6∆h) =60-6∆h

+ProtoflareZ Glad it helped :-)

Thank you, I'm glad it helped!
THANKYOU! I didn't understand my instructor at all, this was a great intro to the section.

Far better than my text book, much appreciated!
awesome video
thanks for your help!
At five minutes couldn’t you just multiply Bi over to get hi = 5bi/6?
Problem:
Work out area of triangle with 12 base & 10 height by slicing it up into equal height rectangles (each is =∆h):
Work out the slope 1st:
b'=12/10=6/5=1⅕
b(0)=12
b(1)=b(0)-b'∆h=12-(1⅕)∆h
b(i)=12-(1⅕)(∆h)i
Σb(i)∆h=N(12∆h)-(1⅕)(∆h)²Σi
=12N∆h-(1⅕)(∆h)²(½N(N+1))
∆h=10/N => N=10/∆h:
Σb(i)∆h=120-(1⅕)(∆h)²(½)((10/∆h)²+10/∆h)
=120-(1⅕)(50+5∆h)
=120-(60+6∆h)
=60-6∆h
You're a god
Isnt Delta h static? because each slice has a fixed size?
Yes, it is in the initial set up. But then as we increase the number of slices, delta h decreases (but is still the same for each slice).
See my comment above. 😊
THANK YOU
