This is absolutely fantastic stuff! It answers some questions that have been floating around in my head. I'll always listen to Tanner, the guy who got some points on Ben Johns!
3:00 I've been trying to figure out the best way to attack short returns for a year now, but the short returns I'm talking about are a lot shorter than that, and I generally can't get to them without having to strike the ball with my feet moving. I've never been great at that. I usually just flip the ball over the net softly to avoid error, and take up a dominant position at the NVL. It's already a nice bonus to get a free trip to the NVL, but I'm sure there's even more I could be doing.
Hey Tanner! Thanks for the video. We just started playing tournaments and it’s been super fun. The last tip about playing two mini games… the first to 5… if you are up 5-2 as mentioned, would you take a time out to discuss what is working even though you are up? We are not at a 5.0 level… so collectively I don’t think we would both totally identify why we are winning…. But with a time out we could recognize and discuss what to continue. I guess the only downside to this is it may be cooling down our streak of points. It could be a quick timeout perhaps? Thanks man!! -Bill
I played a league game last night and this “first to five” is such a crucial tip that everyone should be thinking about…it’s the mindset that makes the largest difference!
Learning a lot, thank you. Ben Johns teaches that a drive from mid court is a low percentage shot. He says that you are still far enough from your opponent where he can still react and drive his return at your feet. Your thoughts?
I'm NOT Tanner, but if your opponents are at the NVZ, they are 3.5 or better and you are back, a drive is a bad choice....your feet are exposed and they have angles of attack you do not. I agree with what BJ said. IMO, the better the competition, the more they will feast on your errors, just like Tanner said. Playing rec ball will tempt you to be a smasher but vs. better players, they'll be more versatile, quick and smart.
I already knew to stand ahead of my partner making a drop shot, but I wasn't using it as a springboard to crash the center of court to feast on popups. I will add that tool immediately.
Hey Tanner! I’ve learned so much from your videos! Is there anyway you can break down some of my morning group play? I have a channel with all of our games. Maybe you can let us know what we’re doing wrong 😂
I’m about to playing my first tournament this weekend. What equipment and or advice do you have about recording my matches so I can learn from my own videos. What do you suggest I use when recording? iPhone, Tripod, what else would you suggest? Camera placrment?
I wouldn’t say you should remove “most”, it was usually fine, but it could use some tweaking, it was a little distracting at times, especially when the volume would boost to the non-talking level when you only stop talking for a couple seconds. I think it only needs to be like 5-10% quieter while you are talking and a smaller boost when you’re not talking, and a little less trigger happy with how often you’re applying the boost lol. Around 3:26-3:30 is an example of the volume surges that tripped me up the most lol. But I’m very audio oriented so most people might not have noticed.
You should give me clarity on when to drive cause someone can give a short return that stays near the floor and you should definitely not drive those also at higher level one bad drive to high above the net will either sore out or good players will finish the point driveing the ball have a much less probability.
DUDE!! 3:25-3:30 The guy NEVER hits the ball to your RIGHT! BACKHAND!! He should be pushing you further and further OFF the court... c'mon, I've not even finished the video yet??
Ok, the first 60 sec. Are arguable and I'm a lefty as well. WHY are you crowding out ur partner and giving up all the space on ur right when HE can/should cover the spot ur referring to?? Your not really even going "cross court" the angle is not enough...

That reach in strategy is gold!!! I used to always reach in to pressure the opponent but now i have a better understanding of when to use it.

If you're hot, keep it going!! The second you feel the momentum begin to switch, immediate timeout!!

I agree that is a solid point by him.
Good Stuff!

Excellent video! As an intermediate player this helps so much. Thanks!❤

Just a tripod and iPhone is what I use!
Ridley out if the cage! Welcome back!
Hahahah
new subscriber here!
Welcome! Glad you're here!
Where was this filmed? cool spot to play.
The pickleball garden in coconut creek Florida!
Hey tanner when your partner drives a third shot, where should you be? Should you be back and wait for a 5th shot drop or should you shake and bake
Same positioning as with the drop!
Where is the link for the insoles?
Here it is!

Excellent content. Thank you Tanner. Please consider removing most of the background music. It distracts from your excellent instruction.
I hear you! I'll keep that in mind for future videos.

This was a great video with great tips btw, I had a couple takeaways I hadn’t thought about before!

I see! I will create a video on this, good recommendation!
I see so many players letting high balls bounce than taking advantage of them.
Hmmmm, that could be true I think most of them get sped up!
@@tanner.pickleball I was referring to local non pro players.
