Do ya'll hear them....it sounds like there are 1000 voices...this is how a choir is supposed to sound...my GOD JD was one anointed director/musician/teacher/leader...lawddd have mercy. Nothing like it in this day...
This song brought tears to my eyes. You see I am from the old school and 60+ years. Oh how my heart cry for songs like this today. Please churches remove our rebellious spirit and get back to praising God on Sunday mornings.
God! Oh how I miss that awesome sound!!! My, My!!! This was when Gospel music was REAL Gospel Music!!! Something that would last way up to next Sunday inside your soul on your job!
Woods has that organ, walking, talking, wimpering, whining, squalling and wailing all at the same time! And to look at him play, it would seem as though he's casually sitting watching tv. I'm not buying it, Woods! You KNOW you're beating the daylights out of that Hammond!....:)
Um umm ummmmmm' just cannot say anything more! But to hear it, and then hear this over tha' Airwaves is Awesome! When o moved to Detroit, didn't kno' anyone much there! Then I started listening to tha' radio on Sundays, Martha Jean tha' Queen, Nation of Islam, few more Churches, Preachers, Teachers, Ministers! Started hearing this Church come on, Pastor C.H. Nicks' III & Choir! I started praying, said ohhhhhh' my God(KA). I have to find that church, when I do I'ma join, join tha' Choir & become a member! No lie! Well, we started looking for bigger place, we did, on the E. side of Detroit! We lived off of Edwin & Conant. Never even had any idea that this Church was down the street. OMG won't God(Is), (KA) a Spirit do it? Never knew, Conant turned into Mt. Elliot, Detroit side. We resided in Hamtramck! Anyhew, there sat St. James Missionary Baptist Church! MT. ELLIOT & PULFORD! Miss that place, surely do! Well, my neighbor, Ms Mary invited me one day, my heart just melted! Tha' Annointing there when I walked thru' their doors, tha' Aroma was heavenly scented! Ohhhhhh' what a gift! I am Blessed & Annointed to say that I was baptized in tha' Spirit by the Late, Great Pastor & Gifted Musician C. H. Nick's, III ASE'/AMEN! And Mr. Jimmy Dowell was such an Awesome, very Gifted & Annointed Choir Director, although never got to join or sing under his Annointing! Luv' U & TU for allowing me to become a part of this Gifted & Annointed Family! ASE'/AMEN!
This is the most beautiful singing of "Blessed Assurance" I have ever heard!! I love to listen to this video EVERY DAY!! Thank you for providing such a blessing for so many to hear!! God bless you!!
I could not agree with you more; I've never heard anything like this in my life! This is simply amazing. The choir is on JD like white on rice! By far the greatest director Detroit has ever known! No slight to anyone else, but JD was in a class all by himself! God bless his memory!!
My GrandMothers Church Choir was the same outstanding. Those are the days, I’m not sure we’ll ever see this again like this. This song blesses the soul
If the Church was still like this today I believe the world would be a better place. There is so much production in the Church these days. No authenticity whatsoever!
"MAGNIFICENT." ... This is a real choir and church. I'm a professional musician that has played in a number of churches with ... "GREAT VOICES & MUSICIANS." ... This performance is on another spiritual level ... "THE OMNISCIENT, OMNIPOTENT & OMNIPRESENT HEAVENLY FATHER GOD & SON JESUS CHRIST ANOINTING." ... Is clearly present here. I would have been honored too play with them along with some of my buddies ... 🎵🙏💖✝️🥇🎹🥁🎺⚖💸 ... 😘 !!!
I wish I could travel in a time machine back to the days when going to church was fun. Miss those old glory days when people use to really have church in Detroit. St. James, Greater Grace.... those were the days. On Sunday, we use to go church hopping starting with St. James and sometimes we would end up at Bishop Ker's Neapolitan church on Mack where we would get our shout in and end the night with Rev. Ralph Boyd. Definitely can't leave out Greater Grace, Bishop Ellis. And it was not just the music at these churches, it was the pastors (Charles Nicks, Bishop Ellis....) that added to the great times we had back then and that made going to church special back then. Today it seems as thou something is missing from the church. Jimmy Dowell directing this song remind me of those old glory days.
After reading the many comments, I must agree. The choir is working it and there's no other that I have hear that can. St. James knew how to put the icing on the cake. Priase GOD for his anionting that abides in his people. Sing on Choir.
You are such a blessing to share all these wonderful songs of the "real" church. My soul is so happy to be a part of the St James experience via this portal. I have to be careful and not get to praising to loud up in here, my neighbors will think somebody killin me in here cause they don't know what it's all about. Thank God for you child. From a Granny in Texas
Beautiful song, beautiful harmony from the choir! Voices singing together for God is always a blessing to hear!! Thank you for such a wonderful presentation of Blessed Assurance!! God bless you!!
no that's Bishop Andre Sonny Woods playing!! if i remember correctly Sidney plays for Wings Of Love Baptist Church in Detroit. i do know that he also helps out at Historic St. James.
There is no match for this. None. Take all of the rest of todays music and make them set down and listen to who we once were in our churches and music. This is Holy Ghost. That choir. Oh my God. Bring it back. Please.
I have a choral arrangement of this great American hymn for both SATB and TTBB Choirs in counterpoint with a solo trumpet playing 'The Last Post'. Check it out on on SMP
Marcel: I've probably ask you this before, but, where is a church that sings and have a worship experience like this today? I will travel now that I am retired. We have nothing like St. James here in Reynoldsburg, Ohio; I know a lot of changes have taken place with St. James as well as Fellowshp, Chicago, First Church of Deliverance, Chicago. There has to be other churchs that mininister in song like St. James some place????????? Jerrell Bess
Time to go back to choirs...the "praise team's" time is running out. Same people leading songs, not as effectual as it once was, and becoming redundant. I can count the times on one hand that I've seen the spirit shown above in service. Worship IS NOT an event.
today is February 20th 2017, lawwwd have mercy! where on earth are these types of choirs now??? we need this type of anointing in This day day and age because this mess (yes, I said mess, actually it's junk-mess) that jumps out of today's choirs are pathetic and should be sung only for entertaining the deaf! (and then again, we don't want to offend them either)
Beautiful!! I do love the old style hymns.
2024…Who plays this on repeat every day…Bless Assurance
YES! How I start off my mornings.... with a little BLESSED ASSURANCE. AMEN.
🎹🎹🎹
They just don't make choirs like this anymore...such an anointing. The Church has somehow got to find it's way back to this kind of worship!
My Father's favorite hymn. Rest Daddy🙏🏾❤️🕊
Do ya'll hear them....it sounds like there are 1000 voices...this is how a choir is supposed to sound...my GOD JD was one anointed director/musician/teacher/leader...lawddd have mercy. Nothing like it in this day...
He and Mattie Moss Clark were twins when it came down to choir directing in Detroit. :) :) :)
Amen ... 🔥 !!!
The drummer is amazingly the best!!!😊😊😊
Woods has that organ, walking, talking, wimpering, whining, squalling and wailing all at the same time! And to look at him play, it would seem as though he's casually sitting watching tv. I'm not buying it, Woods! You KNOW you're beating the daylights out of that Hammond!....:)
This is how a real choir director would let the Lord use him. I wish I could be a musician in those days instead of now.
i KNOW THE FEELING!!!!!
Right on brother!
He preached a sermon without saying a word! This is my all time favourite hymn and now my all time favourite version. This is beyond beautiful.
I declare I am about to fall out! This is amazing! How did choirs get away from this standard of real gospel music! Hymns! Hymns!
This director is what a heaven's choir director looks/sounds like...Anointed. God bless you richly for sharing this Holy heritage.
This song absolutely brings me to tears when I think what a blessed assurance Jesus has been to me, Yes he is all of our Blessed Hope!
Um umm ummmmmm' just cannot say anything more! But to hear it, and then hear this over tha' Airwaves is Awesome! When o moved to Detroit, didn't kno' anyone much there!
