That’s John Bonham you can hear at the beginning of the song. “We’ve done four already and now we’re steady and then they went 1-2-3-4” He’s either just counting in or counting the number of albums they had released. On the live video you see him doing the same count in and doing backing vocals. Plant sings about a girl who broke his heart and that’s his daughter Carmen, he’d change the lyrics to reflect her growing up so in the live version of this song he sings that’s she’s 4 years old haha. The Ocean refers to the audience at their gigs.
@Gavin Blenkinsop "He’s either just counting in or counting the number of albums they had released." Bonham is referring to the number of takes they had attempted prior to this one.
When people ask me what my favorite song is I always say, "The Ocean" cause you are correct. It is the quintessential Zeppelin song. Might not really be my favorite at any particular moment but you catch my drift.
I just started watching all of your reactions to Led Zeppelin. The greatest rock band ever!!! It is so much fun to watch young people discover the miracle that was those four guys playing together and creating magic. When the music came out in the late 60's and 70's, we knew it was great, we just didn't know there would never be such great rock music created again. I love, love, love how excited you get. I can see in your facial expressions that you are really thrilled to be hearing this masterful band.
'In My Time of Dying' is my favorite from Physical Graffiti. That will knock your socks off. It's a little like their follow up to Stairway to Heaven. Even more intense, though.
This is one of my favorite tracks of theirs (you really can't narrow it down to one; my top 5 Led Zep tracks are a rotation of about 13 different songs, really), so I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! Physical Graffiti is a great album as well. Looking forward to what you get into next! This is all stuff I've been listening to for my entire 26 years of life to this point, so it's fun to re-experience new listeners reactions. You have to get into Rush, Floyd, Yes, there's just so much! At the very least, you'll have decades of content to react to!
I really enjoy watching you show your emotions so fully while listening to Led Zeppelin ! That’s the best type of commentary possible ! The Ocean is my favorite, particularly Jimmy Page’s guitar at the end.
Love your reactions , genuine engagement and enjoyment. I feel music will be safe in your hands. Been amazed by the longevity of bands like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for the past 50 years and love it when new generation gets it as well 👍😎
😂😂😂...you're hilarious Silas, love it! if you listen closely to the closing segment you can hear the vocals in the background singing "doo wop, da diddy diddy, doo wop, da diddy"...a little tribute to 50's music and the doo wop groups
Enjoy all your reactions to Led Zeppelin! Hopefully you continue with the rest of the albums to come. You won’t be disappointed! Then hopefully you go on to thier live performances!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome!, I love this tune!, ❤ great guitar work, 🎸great transitions, "Houses of the holy" was a transitional album 🎶for Led Zeppelin, "The Ocean" is a step back to the more traditional hard pounding Led Zep we're all familiar with. I consider "Physical graffiti" to be a masterpiece, have fun!. 😊 Thank you Peace! ☮
Zep was big on dynamic range, meaning the loud parts sound much louder because there's other parts that are very quiet. It's like a painting. If you want something to look very bright you have to put in dark stuff so it stands out. Despite being one of the things that makes music enjoyable, dynamic range was almost wiped out by the hair-metal bands of the 80s. They tried to make every note of every song be "all the way up" and that just doesn't work. Pop music in general was being compressed into blandness until bands like Nirvana started bringing dynamic range back into music. Listen to Beethoven or Mozart. The volume goes from a whisper to an explosion.
The main riff is in 8/8 time + 7/8 time (or, in other words, 15/8 time) and sounds like a note has been dropped off the end of the riff, leaving one with the feeling that--rhythmically and melodically--it feels a slight bit unresolved. But then again, that's the appeal of this riff. It is truly one of the best guitar riffs ever written.
You asked yourself, how could have not listened to Zepplin before. My question to you at this point is, how could you even CONSIDER not finishing out this mind blowing journey that they have taken you on? It's your show but I think you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice by not listening to the remaing albums! Another question I have is, how many subscribers dud you have before you started this Zepplin ride, and how many do you have now? Are they " buttering your bread" ? Think about it please. Oh, and when you do change up might I suggest Tool. If you need to wet your whistle, try The Pot buy Tool. I think you'll be almost as amazed by them as you are with Led Zeppelin.
When you're finished with Led Zeppelin check out Deep Purple albums,Deep Purple in Rock,Fireball,Machine Head,Who do we think we Are,Burn,Perfect Strangers,Infinite,Whoosh. Highway Star off the Machine Head album will blow you away!!!! you're going to be very (enjoyingly)busy.
Possibly my fave LZ song. I find myself singing it all the time. You kept interrupting at the wrong times!!! But you obv liked it. Yes please do Physical Grafittu next and then Pink Floyd!
You talk about diving deeper into different bands May I suggest the band Supertramp a great band that often gets overlooked by the Supergroups.I would love to see a younger persons perspective on them.I've enjoyed your Zeppelin reactions
There are a lot of good Zeppelin songs after the Houses of the Holy album, but they are a little spotty quality-wise and vary wildly in style, especially between In Through The Out Door (heavy on Jones' keyboards) and Presence (a stark sound from Page's guitar). Physical Graffiti though has some absolute gems that you shouldn't miss. It's a long album (double length), but I think it's worth a full listen. If you want to cherry-pick songs instead though, go with Kashmir, In My Time of Dying, and maybe In the Light and/or Ten Years Gone. Oh and I'll add the short instrumental Bron-yr-Aur to the list, because it's so pretty and one of my personal favorites. Happy listening, my friend!
@@scottzappa9314 that was my feeling as well all those years ago, but I'll tell you Presence has really grown on me. There's a backstory to that album, Plant just had his serious accident, and he was in a wheelchair during the recording. Page had a ton of pressure on him to finish the album. So I listened again and again to Presence through a whole new filter, and I love it.
I watch you everyday, but I look to see if you done Pink Floyd Pulse concert, Comfortably Numb David Gilmore is one of the greatest guitarist 🎸! You will be blown away, also Sorrow or anything from Pulse concert
Oh we gonna show up ..for the Grow up! Hatsoff to you Silas you are doing it Right! FLOYD..and THE WHO.. PLEASE DONT SKIP AROUND..PICK A BAND GO THROUGH THE ORDER OF ALBUMS!! LIKE YOU BE DOING!
Next band reaction after Zep has to be the Canadian band Rush. John Bonham and Neil Peart (The Professor) are widely considered to be the two best rock drummers ever. Rush is the definition of a power trio, most people can't believe all that music came from just three people. Beware the 40 year rabbit hole, it's as deep as Zeppelin's. Geddy Lee: lead vocals, bass, keyboards. Alex Lifeson: lead guitar, backing vocals. Neil Peart: drums, principal lyricist. (rip)
You must do physical graffiti. I'm so enjoying watching you have a great experience with zep. I'm 63 and listen to zep since I've been 14. Still learning more and more. Live watching young people realizing the best group of all time.
Sad to hear only one more album in the Zepp journey but am super glad your going to do Physical. Physical is like none of the other albums. It's a double album and has a raw funkiness to it. The guitar Page plays on many of the songs just has an amazing grittiness that could be describes as DIRTY to it. The first album has probably their second most famous song "Kashmir" on it. Which I like far better than Stairway and the song "In my Time of Dying" for many years was my all time favorite song. The first album is one banger after another to me. The weakest song but still very good is Houses of the Holy which they somehow left off this album. The second album is mellower than the first but still very good. Ten Years Gone is a soothing and cool as the Rain Song to me.
Next album is "Presence". Not my favourite, but it has two of Zepp's "best" songs on it in the form of "Achilles Last Stand" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine". I'll be here to watch your reaction. Ciao lad.
1 more thing don't let people tell u to find out more information before posting your zep videos. It takes a long time to know everything thing about them. When us old folks started listening we just loved them. Eventually u will. My son is 34 and is into hip hop. But definitely knows all about zep listening since he's been born. Your doing a great job. Just enjoy
Try Machine Head by Deep Purple... same crazy build ups and releases. You remind me of our dormitory club house at collage in 1971! We all looked just like you when we opened up and played the new led zep album s
At least finish all the studio albums, Physical Graffiti, Presence, and In Through the Out Door. No listening of the Led Zeppelin discography can go without the song Kashmir.
I'd love to him also check out Hey Hey What Can I Do. I actually suggested it back when he did the 3rd album, since it was recorded then and was a B side to Immigrant Song.
Could you react to HammerFall - Venerate Me or Too Old to Die Young, They are a Swedish band formed in 1993, and they got 12 album, They are very melodic and catchy, Highly recommend it. They are also very old school, but sounds new

Correct on all counts. Great live version on the Song Remains The Same remastered DVD from MSG 1973.
Yep Bonham!!
Won he's heart,...
Dude 50 years from now, you are still going to amazed by L.Z. The older you get, the deeper you get into them!

The Ocean is Robert Plant's ode to the the exceptionally large crowds that go to their concerts.

'In My Time of Dying' is my favorite from Physical Graffiti. That will knock your socks off. It's a little like their follow up to Stairway to Heaven. Even more intense, though.
I'm a drummer. A cover band I was in a few years ago...we played this. It was such a fun song to play. Another great Bonham beat!

This one is a masterpiece. I LOVE to watch your facial expressions....it really makes me happy.
You should do every Zep song ever in order. Then live and rare Zep. Then After that slum it up with other bands
A friend of mine played drums in a Led Zeppelin cover band. They really kicked ass on this song.
Like this one!! 💥💥💥. Congrats on 3k and that patreon thing --I signed up, of course, but I’ll have to ask one of my boys how to find it again! 🤪
Ha! Thank you!! There’s also a Patreon app you can download to make it a lot easier to find!

One of the best Led Zeppelin songs ever, plus one of the best bands ever, if not the best!
just about my favorite led zepp song written by the drummer
They never do anything halved assed! 😎👍 GOATS!
You'll miss some of their best work if you stop here. Even CODA has some gems 💎
Nobody's Fault But Mine kicks an inappropriate amount of ass.
There's a great live version of this song from MSG, 1973. After you do Physical Graffiti, hope you get into Pink Floyd, then back into Zeppelin again!
I'd rather he just continues until Zep is done instead of cutting it off and switching to Pink Floyd

You're not the first reactor to ask that question but it's perfectly normal to ask. I found them in 1970 and still here for a while longer.
Ten Years Gone from Physical Graffiti is my fave Zep song, so looking forward especially to your reaction to it.
This is just a really fun song. The live is really good too.
Oh, so good!!
The first 2 sides of Physical Grafitti and bangers
That was a great song but I can't wait for the Physical Graffiti album
