This is my video about store-bought, pre-made spice blends. I used to buy all mine from the Dollar Store and I stand by the practice, but talking about how to cook almost requires that you give exact measurements for a DIY spice mix, due to potential sourcing problems and variability. - Навчання та стиль

Kinda makes sense to me. I'm not more or less likely to watch someone because of how often they upload. Back in the day, when we perused Blogs, it made sense to be routine with their content. The customer had to purposely try a website. The regularity rewarded the consumer logging on.
But that was then. This is now.
He does because he wants to.
This is a side hobby of his.

I‘d love some spice mix recommendations in metric
You don't need metric for spices lol
Well they do if you are making your own blend in other countries..in some recipes when using spices you do..Usually it is a talent to be able to tell what amount to use..like this old bird here..i dont measure much of anything, so when people ask me for a recipe i make sometimes its hard to give it, because I don't measure much anymore..so i depend on my old recipe books from my Momma and Grandma..to send out the recipe..its still the way its made but I eyeball all of it..lol
@@suellendodd8076 The reason i don't think you need metric for spices is because everyone has their own heat tolerances and preferences so relying on exactly measured quantities is counterproductive. You do need to experiment somewhat with that kind of thing
@@nowdefunctchannel6874 volumetric measures of ingredients will vary wildly depending on the grind size. Imagine the disparity between a cup of dehydrated garlic chunks vs coarsely ground garlic vs dusty garlic powder
@@internetshaquille fair enough, but i would say if you are making your own spice blends, you probably have a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder of some description to get everything into an evenly fine texture.
I'm black af and seeing lawry's as your first recommended seasoning just made me nod my head in approval so quickly lol
I'm always scared of the spice mix section in the grocery store because it makes me feel even more out of my depth food-wise than individually labeled spices do. This video is gonna give me the courage I need to just try shit
Tip, taste your food as you go, have some extra spoons available that can get tossed into the sink after tasting if you cooking for other people, spice half what you think stir if appropriate and taste, then spice more. The worst is when I put to much spice in and then have to change my food into some frankenstein in order to eat it without throwing it out.
Honestly if you have the component spices there's not much need to buy premade blends of them
that roller coaster of an outro really displays the love/hate relationship of being a creator on any platform.
It's worse when you realize that he doesn't need to rely as much on ads as other content creators do... guys who go full time rely on these ads to live... sometimes, we just need to understand that...
Something that I think people don't tend to realize is that you can make your own custom spice blends in advance. You can buy spice bottles for pretty cheap (or re-use old bottles!) and by blending it together yourself, you can choose how much of one spice you want. Sure, for something like cajun spice it makes sense to buy the real deal spice mixture; but to bring up the point you made about familiarity, being in complete control over your spices is refreshing and makes cooking much more fun.
Thank you for taking away that “spice mix” guilt. I just bought myself some Italian seasoning and will be applying it with unapologetic gusto!
Corn meal/starch in taco seasoning isn't filler. It's a thickener since you're supposed to add it to your beef along with with water to make a sauce instead of simply seasoning the beef.
I have never had a taco with sauce in my life other then salsa. What's it even like
Predictable Enigma it’s not really a “sauce”, it just coats the meat better than only dry spices
@@PredictableEnigma If you ever had mongolian beef in a chinese restaurant you should know the concept. It makes that magnificent, flavourful glaze over the meat. That said, I have no idea why anyone would add water to it. The meat should already have all the moisture it needs, and if things start to get a little dry (during cooking, not before) add some oil (or liquefied fat of your choice).
@@matejmahkovic thanks for the explaination!
@@matejmahkovic Yeah. The cheapest and most readily available taco seasoning where I am (Japan) is like "brown lean ground meat, cover water, stir in the seasoning, and boil down." Actual practice is to buy cheap fatty ground meat and sprinkle the seasoning on while it's browning because I really just wanted to go to Del Taco an hour ago.
I really like how you’re doing the ads! Cut to black to make it super clear where the content ends and the ad starts. And you made the ad enjoyable to watch. It reminds me of Jay Foreman’s ads
This is the first time I’ve seen an ad and 99% sure I’m going to buy the product mainly bc it’s reasonably priced, sounds great, and I need more alcoholic beverages to try. Honestly thank you

Hi Shaq, I used to help in a monastery kitchen and it was kind of a hobby of the cook to buy random spice blends to try for "advice" and then try to match their taste profiles for daily 10-30 person meals. Super enjoyable. Killer video as always🔥
I've learned more from your 5 minute videos than decades of watching Food Network, Alton Brown is quaking
I love spice mixes, so long as they don't have salt in them. I like to portion my own salt and usually mixes with salt have way too much salt in my experience.
You could also argue that they have too little spice
@@antonhelsgaun You could, but that's also a stupid argument.
My lemon pepper seasoning's first two ingredients are salt and sugar. "Nutrition facts available upon request." Surrre... I just gotta call them and stay on hold for a few hours first.

Very cool to see local heroes Penzey's Spices get a shout out. Great people run that place.
We got a box of mixes for a gift and have had fun trying them on different things. Theyre pretty solid flavors, glad to hear they're good people too

UK TIP: Stay away from the tesco mixed spice and go for something like Schwartz, even so they are considerable more pricey they are much stronger so last long. you can easily use a how bottle of tesco mixed spice on a meal for 4.

This is actually helpful. I did not realize how little thought I put into buying pre blended spices.
This is a really helpful vid. I mostly cook Indian and Middle Eastern food and rarely venture away from the blends/brands I grew up with. But I've always struggled with flavors for other cuisines.
You've taught me more about the kitchen than any food network show or UA-cam channel.
Truly a man of the people and helping us be less hopeless skipthedishes zombies.
I have a decent spice collection now and I like to keep two general-purpose spices mixes that I periodically refill like a perpetual stew; a blend for continental food which I use primarily for potatoes and a curry blend for rice.
I do that with infused olive oil

Compact and informative as always, thanks papi
Great video, great sideburns too.
Great video, love your videos. I'm also a spice mix guy, but the best argument I've seen for buying whole spices comes from Mike Greenfield of Pro Home Cooks. If you have a giant rack of whole spices on your wall and you're cooking for the week, just prepare one *unique* spice blend (or even stock) on the weekend to use throughout the week, and then make a new one when this one runs out. That way you won't get bored of the same flavours all the time, even in the same dish, and also the spices will be relatively freshly ground.
Thanks man, you put it really simple. I know what spice I’m going to get now.
I love this channel thanks netshaq

My go-to seasonings that are available in most U.S. grocery stores are using Tony Chachere's in place of salt (staple in Creole/Cajun food), Goya Sazonador Total (all-purpose seasoning that's good on practically anything), and Sazón Goya with Achiote for meat & black beans.
Always a pleasure when shaq uploads

Homeboy taught me how to make burritos the right way in like 3 and a half minutes. I'll watch anything you post for the rest of time.
Good stuff man. I agree with the brand thing.
I find making my own spice blends fun and enlightening, but yeah, I can totally understand why people would go for pre-made blends. Also, good point on the familiarity thing. My niblings are just getting into the picky phase and cooking for them has become quite tricky, the "known" spice blends definitely help! (They also help in me not accidentally making it too spicy for them, haha)
I am indian and I love my spices but i gotta admit, I watch your videos just because of your moustache

I use spice mix in seitan, which needs to be flavorful. I've tried "chicken mix" and italian herbs they do the trick.
I'm interested in trying a zesty/fruity combination! that could bring a nice taste to the seitan.
Usually in store-bought seitan, the spices are leaning towards curry/pie mix, which i do enjoy but it's not something i replicate at home.
Why have I never thought of spicing my seitan smh. I have some bacon seasoning, now I wonder...
You've really hit the sweet spot with short but (so) sweet content density mr shaquille
