Here i dont agree with u brother …. Taxi unions both in manali and leh are doing gunda gardi… tell me why a resident of india hiring vehicle from any state other than HP cant drive in HP or Leh ? And dear thats only my opinion which may differ from yours or anyone else… i once in ladakh saw a union person breaking windshield of a dl number taxi, the driver was shocked and travellers to were frightened. Now should we all come to manali or leh for this experience ??? Pls reply dear
Bhai, your views are unclear. And naturally, you have to live there, in some ways your sympathies will be with people there..but please look at this from view of tourists as well.
If Taxi unions are against Private vehicles ferrying pessengers, definitely that is understandable. Definitely these private vehicles should be fined if they are doing this for money/commercial purpose.
But if they are against private cars going to Rohtang, that won't happen. Because people like me who travel a lot, will almost never take taxis. We would rather go to locations other than Manali then and it will hurt other businesses in Manali.
My brother visits Manali almost twice a year and if he is stopped from driving wherever he wants, he will simply stop coming to Manali.
Also, buses are government services. Anybody should be able to use them. If I have money only for a bus, why and how will I pay for taxi?
Buses cannot be only for locals - One can file a case against HP bus service if they do this and win that case if that happens, this would simply be illegal. Government services cannot be barred on basis of local/non-local. That is against Indian constitution.
Last but not the least, rentals. That is legit business. These people like driving themselves. Yes, govt might ban them in HP or some places but then these people will simply go to other locations rather than take taxis!! Manali is eventually the loser.
The point is very simple. If one business doesn't stand the test of time anymore, it is time to slowly shift and look how to move ahead to other areas.
If taxis have become more in Manali, and demand is less, naturally taxis have to reduce in long run or taxi walas have to find models that work better.
Government might be able to help but that will not be the long term solution. It will only harm Manali tourism.
Actually Government should ensure they govern properly and don't give a taxi permit to anyone and everyone. It has to be seen how many taxis are actually required so that business can thrive.
The way I see this, more taxi permits have been given than needed according to today's times.
If I am there and I see these kind of issues, why would I return. I would go to other places.
