In this tutorial, I will be demonstrating how to clone your Windows OS from a mechanical hard drive or SSD to an M.2 SSD for free.
This approach can be used to copy either only your operating system, or your entire disk which includes your operating system, applications, files, settings, and anything else on your hard drive to the M.2 SSD. You can also choose to copy only certain partitions of your disk to the M.2 SSD. Now here are some of the scenarios where you would possibly need this technique:
    • First is of course when you want to change from a mechanical hard drive to an M.2 SSD storage.
    • Second is when you want to combine a mechanical hard drive with an M.2 SSD, normally using the SSD for your Windows and applications, and then the mechanical hard drive for storage.
    • The third is when you want to upgrade from a smaller to a larger M.2 SSD especially if your laptop only has the M.2 socket for storage and you’re running out of disk space.

      One question?
When you select Disk clone, you are coping all, including the operative system? I mean, in my case is move from a small capacity ssd m2 to another bigger, if I select that option (disk clone) I finish the process an I only connect the cloned ssd it would work as the first?
If you answer this THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I selected the migrate OS but when I'm choosing the new SSD, it says "The specified disk is too small." And I can't proceed to the next step.

    • @cranjusmcballer
      @cranjusmcballer 3 роки тому +1

@@magia8930 yeah, do NOT use minitool. I used a Linux-based open source cloning tool called clonezilla and I cannot recommend it enough. Look up a video on using clonezilla and this process will be so much faster and simpler than trying what's in this video. Just make sure that you have a spare flash drive with about 8gb of free space on it

I was able to clone my HDD to the SSD and change the boot to SSD with the cloned Windows but noticed no difference in speed compared to the HDD so I am not sure if I am missing something to make the SSD run Windows and other programs faster on my Lenovo S145 that may be in the BIOS?

Question bro, would the drivers be included in the migration of OS only to the SSD? Would it be fine to delete the rest of the OS files left at the HD so I can use it purely for storage?

I plan to do this exact process for my PC. I have all my system files and gaming files on only one SSD currently. I want to add an M.2 strictly for system files/boot up and use the SSD for my gaming files. Once I’ve set my M.2 as a boot drive can I just delete the system files from the SSD?

so, you said this only clones, and the windows files remain on source drive. Once you choose for the bios to boot into the newer drive, how do you go about removing the windows files from the source, original drive? To free up space, since those files are no longer needed?

So I’m looking to do this from a data ssd to a m.2 ssd, I assume that will work and follow the video, however can you delete the files on the other ssd after you clone them onto the new one? And does the ssd need to be external? Can I not just put it into the slot in my pc like normal then go on with the process

Is there another free option to clone the OS from a HDD to SSD if the cluster sizes is different? For this method i'd need to buy the pro version

Question! Could I transfer the OS without formatting my laptop? I’m planning to buy an m.2 and I don’t want my files gone because I’m still a student and I need some software and files. Would that work out?

Hi, please reply to this comment. I had a HDD and newly installed m.2 SSD 2TB, but I had it installed as extra storage because I’m too afraid that I’ll have to re install my apps e.g fl studio (music software) which includes several installation add-ons within the software. As a result my computer is still slow but I now just have more storage. Although, watching your videos I’m seeing it may be possible to still keep the installed programs once they’ve been cloned to the SSD. I’m wondering if I can clone and then boot from SSD to see if the programs still work (whilst some how disabling the original hard drive) just to be sure that the programs are working from the SSD and not the current hard drive. Then if the programs don’t work would I be able to change the bios to boot back from original hard drive and which still has all the content on it. Surely the programs would still work fine? And I’d be back to square one, a hardrive with an SSD as extra storage? Please let me know, I’m in a crisis! In short I just want to test if the programs would still be installed and work fine on the SSD and if not I’ll just continue with my current scenario

Hello! I was able to successfully go through everything and had to change my boot load order through BIOS to use the new / m.2 as the primary drive. I booted up successfully but now the old drive does not show up as a storage drive. It does not show up at all under "my computer." Is this just a matter of having to format the old drive to be used as storage? Or what would be the best way to do this?
    * Side note, I was able to do this FOR FREE by following his instructions in the link he posted. A lot of people are saying you have to pay but this is incorrect. You just need to download an older version as instructed.

Thank you very much for guide. My Desktop does not have M.2 slot, so I want to add through PCIe to M.2 adapter. In this case how use this as my boot drive and clone my hard disk? I do have cloning software came with my Corsair cloning kit, which is basically for cloning regular 2.5 inch SSD with SATA to USB 3 Cable, which I bought to upgrade my Laptop hard drive. I can use a 2.5 inch SATA SSD for my desktop too, but just want to experiment with NVMe SSD through PCIe to M.2 adapter. I hope you hot my intention.

Hey, your explanation is very useful.
I want a clarification from ur side.
I just upgraded my laptop with SSD along with HDD and my hdd is dynamic, so i had to install new os on SSD ,and the new OS on SSD isn't accepting the softwares installed in the HDD. Now i have OS on both the drives, i want the data from c folder of HDD into SSD not the OS what can i do ?
